Introduction Why choose bespoke design?

Celebrating history

- Places - Buildings - Events - People

“It gave me great pleasure to officially open this unique and exciting new play area, which will offer many children a fantastic new play experience and is accessible to all - a real landmark for both Drumpellier Country Park and North Lanarkshire as a whole. When the lock here was drained for maintenance in the 1930s, the remains of an iron-age crannog were discovered beneath the waters; and it’s fantastic that today, a long-standing reminder of this heritage has been created for our current generation of children to enjoy and learn more about the history of the area.” - Jean Jones, North Lanarkshire

THE STORY

Client: Culture NL . Budget: £230,000

.

Start Date: February 2017 . Completion: July 2017

The design for the park was developed as a result of vast research and a detailed brief from CultureNL into tradional styles of Crannogs throughout Scotland and in parcular, the Crannog discovered within Lochend Loch. Our findings from this research and our experience creang bespoke play systems have enabled us to create a truly stunning and historically fing play system for Drumpellier Country Park. With the combined experse of Jupiter Play and Inclusive Play, we ensured the design was fully accessible and met the criteria for the Inclusive Play PiPA assessment, a programme that supports families with disabled members to locate days out with appropriate facilies catering to their special needs. We also combined the Crannog design with the exisng hard standing path networks to ensure the enre unit can also accommodate wheelchair usage.

Installed 2018

THE STORY

“The original design was selected due to an exceptional understanding of the locality. Jupiter is a company where the team at all levels – designers, directors, finance officers etc. all buy into what is being contracted and why. We always considered them to be partners as much as contractors. This was a challenging project with a tight budget undertaken during unforeseen extreme weather conditions. The result exceeded our expectations. We ended up with an outstanding product that has enhanced our Council’s reputation both locally and further afield.” - Ian Taylor, Tendring District Council

Client: Tendring DC . Budget: £260,000

.

Start Date: January 2018 . Completion: July 2018

Jupiter Play created inial concepts based around the pier theme and beach hut colours, parcularly using the colours from the local changing places facilies. However, before a final design, a consultaon event was undertaken with local parent and carer groups of children with special needs, as well as families with children at Shorefields special needs school to understand the requirement fully. Their feedback was invaluable as it provided the Design Team with a much beer understanding of the complexies of entering and engaging with a playground. The enre space has been designed to embrace true inclusion. This play area is PiPA cerfied and mapped for families with children with special needs to easily find.

DEAN CASTLE

Installed 2017

“Dean Castle had a unique set of circumstances, working in close partnership with Jupiter Play ensured that any issues were addressed. The quality of work and the materials used are always of the highest quality.

THE STORY

The end result is a unique play park for our area which is different from anything in any of our other parks, which was the desired outcome.” - Lawrie Dinwoodie, East Ayrshire Council

Client: East Ayrshire Council . Budget: £190,000 . Start Date: 2017 . Completion: 2017 Dean Castle Country Park is a fantasc free day out for families, the park boasts beauful woodlands, an urban farm, 14th-century castle and a shop. The adventure play area design was inspired by the 14th-century castle, the natural environment and its surroundings. Designing the play area on a hill required lots of drawings and model work, but does give the play area that WOW factor. The park revolves around the stunning bespoke ‘Adventure Keep’ at the top of the hill, featuring as the main aracon. An inclusive approach was adopted for the design to enable every child a choice of play experiences, no maer what their ability.

LET THE ADVENTURE CONTINUE WITHIN THE INDIAN CAMP. INTERACT WITH THE TEEPEE’S AND BUILD YOUR OWN DEN BY USING WATERPROOF CANVAS.

THE STORY

“Moat Brae proves that dreams really can come true. Children and young people from Scotland and far beyond now have a place that’s dedicated not just to Peter Pan, but to the love of all children’s stories and literature. They can come here to play, daydream and build their creative imaginations, just like J.M. Barrie did.” - Joanna Lumley, Patron PPMBT

Client: Peter Pan Moat Brae Trust . Budget: £182,000 . Start Date: September 2017 . Completion: November 2017 The play equipment was part of a larger scheme to convert Moat Brae in Dumfries into a naonal centre for children’s literature. Joanna Lumley a Patron of PPMBT championed the £8 million fundraising campaign, part of which funded the new playground. PPMBT wanted the play are to evoke the enchanted land where Peter Pan began. The plans for the pirate ship ‘The Jolly Roger’ featured a tree-top walkway, tube slide, balance beam, accessible plaorms and climbing nets which all link to a ship’s hull built over the Burns Walk pathway with a plank-like balcony overlooking the River Nith. Including a storytelling space as well as a mast with sail, a crow’s nest, hammock and net tunnelling. The playspace has been designed to fit within the exisng trees, terrain and the retaining structures at the lower level of the garden without impacng on the view from Moat Brae house.

THE STORY

“We are very pleased with the playground delivered by Jupiter Play; we absolutely love it – I want you to do all our playgrounds. The theming of the site will make a big difference, now the playground really stands out and it’ll draw people in and once the meadows grow it will look great in context to it’s surroundings. - Kelly Eaton, Public Realm Projects and Policy Officer, LB of Brent Council

Client: LB of Brent Council . Budget: £98,000 . Start Date: November 2019 . Completion: December 2019 London Borough of Brent wanted to enhance their exisng toddler provisions with wildlife themed equipment. Adding an inclusive ‘wow’ feature unit in the centre of park. In order to draw aenon to the local wildflower meadow and natural surroundings we chose lavender as a theme for the new play equipment. This will give the play area a unique identy and be a local talking point. Jupiter Play offer a design led, flexible and unique approach to all our projects. We can adapt units by changing the colour of ropes, hand-holds etc and adding sculptural pieces to create a stong themed identy.

Kilburn Grange

Installed 2019

THE STORY

Camden Council were keen to provide a play opportunity but it had to conform to the EN1176 playground standards while still offering the aesthetic and risk benefit that an adventure playground typically brings. Erect Architecture, the lead design on this project, developed a concept heavily weighted around the arboretum, seasonality and trees theme and looked for suppliers who could create a unique bespoke structure that reflected this.

Client: LB of Camden Council . Budget: £143,000 . Start Date: June 2019 . Completion: June 2019 Jupiter Play’s skilled Bespoke Design Specialist works closely with clients and our suppliers to evolve the designs and ensure there is a balance between the requirement of the playground standards and arsc flair and play value. Our partners FHS and Krambamboul are known in the industry for providing high quality products with the most superior raw materials and quality crasmanship and joinery. It is through our own bespoke design capabilies that we can ensure we evolve our client’s designs to be RIBA Stage 3 ready along with the technical drawings ready for manufacture. The process for Kilburn Grange began with a concept sketch idea, to developing a layout with Erect Architecture that would minimise impact on trees and vegetaon to connued consultaon and liaison with our supply chain. The final result is a high quality play space that offers an incredibly unique play experience and aesthec unique to the borough.
