Are cheap road bikes really worth buying? http://bikecycles.org/ Are cheap road bikes really worth buying? So you’ve begun looking at cheap road bikes and you may be wondering if they’re worth it. In order to figure out the answer to that question you need to first figure out how you plan on using it. If you’re thinking of just using it to tour the neighborhood or go for a ride with the kids then the answer would be, probably yes. If your answer is you want to use it for some serious rides or training then you may have to look for something a little better depending on your definition of cheap. There are cheap road bikes you can buy at the department store or online that are under $ 500 dollars and then there are entry level road bikes made by brands like Cannondale or Specialized that are cheap in comparison to their higher end bikes and they are definitely a lot better than the department store specials that you see. These bikes are worth the investment and will be able to give you the performance you need for longer rides and some serious training. At the same time they fall way short as far as performance goes to the high end bikes on the market. Never the less a quality cheap road bike is worth the investment to get you started. In fact even a quality older bike could be a great investment. You can often find these bikes for only pennies on the dollar in comparison to a new bike. They may need some repairs like new tires, cables or brake mechanisms but it is a great way to save money and get some added quality on the cheap. The department store specials can be an ok investment as well if your expectations are not that high. They often come with aluminum frames and parts so they aren’t that heavy and when used for touring around the difference you would be able to notice from a name brand bike from a bike shop would be negligible. Where you probably would notice a difference would be on how well it stands up over time. Cheap road bikes often range in around $ 150 and up depending on the brand name regardless of whether it is brand new or second hand road bikes. I recommend if you have a few extra bucks going for a new bike. Find a store you can trust and will listen to your desires and you are well on your way to finding the right bike for you. They may try to steer you towards a more expensive bike at first but if they are listening to you they will have no problem finding one in your price range. For quite a while now road bikes have been a part of the urban traffic scene around the world and they are the one of the most cost-effective methods of travel. It may be started as a fad but it’s turned into a life style for a large number of people. And most of those just getting started are looking for a cheap bike as opposed to investing a large amount into a top quality bicycle.
