The Quirks and Quaintness of Beach Bikes http://bikecycles.org/ The Quirks and Quaintness of Beach Bikes If you’ve ever seen a beach bike, you make have wondered “Why beach bikes?” Can’t you just do the same thing with a regular bike? After all, they’re made quite similarly, aren’t they? The fact of the matter is that beach bikes are quite a bit different from your regular old solid terrain bicycle. First of all, you need to look at the frame of a regular bike and a beach bike. The frames of the beach bikes are rather curvy, as opposed to the sharp angles of a regular bike. They also are quite a bit heavier than your regular bikes. The bike wheels of a beach bike are also balloon tires—they are thicker and a bit more inflated than your everyday bike. They are also significantly bigger than you might expect of any bike. Beach bike are able to take a bit more abuse than your everyday regular bike. They are also built to look a bit like a motorbike, as opposed to a regular bike. Beach bikes have had their heydays. They become popular for short periods of time, and then become unpopular, then slowly climb back up to being popular and then back down again. It all depends on the time period. However, when looking for something durable, you can’t go wrong with a beach bike—they aren’t just for the beach. Say that you needed reliable transportation to work, but you couldn’t afford the expenses of a car. You could use a beach bike. Say that your old car had just broken down and you didn’t have the time to fix it or you needed transport. Solution? Beach bikes. Maybe you’re a full time college student without the money to buy a car. Or maybe you’re a bit younger with the same problem. Perhaps you need a bit more exercise and you’re looking for a heavy duty alternative. No matter what your need is, chances are that a beach bike is your best bet. However, the best part of beach bikes is that they are affordable. When they were created, it was not with money in mind. These bikes were created to give people reliable, durable, strong bike transport without having to deal out an arm and a leg. In fact, if you’d called a beach bike a beach bike before the seventies, people would have given you funny looks! Beach bikes weren’t called that until the seventies. Who would have thought?
