Project was created as a proposal for Carnikava’s market square area. Plot is located in Kalmju street 2, Carnikava, Latvia. Total plot area is 4524 m2. Plot layout – plot is divided in three main areas: market area, public area and active (sport) area. All three areas are connected between each other with main traffic road, which organizes plot and traffic in it. As wind, sound and dust barriers and for plot traffic organization are used artificial green islands.Visual look – all market area is divided in five separated but at the same time connected blocks with different usage. Insperation for market shape of market sheds is taken from sea theme - waves, boats and sails. For decorative parapet are used polycarbonate plates, which are made of recycled plastic bottles and bags. Market shed construction is made from wooden prefabricated modular elements to make construction cheaper and faster to build.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION The idea of the project was to create public building which will be able to improve active and self care life for inhabitants of the area. One of the main points is to integrate “new generation” architecture in Bauska region – building shows solution in sustainable architecture, it also gives fresh and modern look for district. Concept of architecture of the building is that one structure is at the same time two separated buildings above the ground level. Shape of the building was designed in due to respect neighbor buildings, main roads and pathways. During design phase all nature and surroundings characteristics were analized to create open and light feeling on the plot.

Due to the age and unfavourable climate conditions, some renovation works has to be conducted in order to fix the construction and improve design of the property. The main changes were done in the exterior design of the building. Even though the building needs to have a modern look, it is necessary to respect surroundings and the classic look of the Danish buildings. Biggest changes are on the south side of building having an extention and enlarged balconies structure. Also south part of roof design has been changed. Paying maximum respect to the view and sun, there are created 5 separate common areas (one for each section of the building) with approximately 50 m2 of open space area. Accessing the roof terrace is possible in two ways, by newly placed elevator or by the main staircase which has been extended specially for this purpose. North part of the building is modified with enlarged staircase blocks, which are made of glass with a steel structure. Internal look of building layout is rearranged and upgraded. On the ground floor in east block there are offices for small bussines and rentable rooms. The layout of the basement is also changed now each apartment has it own storage.
