I love this time of year, when we can bring you our brand-new Britain and Ireland brochure for the year ahead that’s filled with a fantastic collection of holiday ideas to spectacular destinations.

We have options covering the length and breadth of the British Isles, from the tip of the Cornish coast to the wilds of the Northern Scottish Isles including our best-selling tours to the Isle of Wight and Torquay as well as perennial favourites such as Little Trains of Norfolk & the Mississippi Paddle Steamer and a trip to Northumberland to visit Hadrian’s Wall, Holy Island and Alnwick Castle.

I am personally excited by our growing range of steam train tours. My favourites include a Yorkshire Steam train tour featuring the Settle to Carlise Railway, our exciting Royal Mint, Brecon Mountain Rail & Bristol Harbour Cruise break and Lancashire Delights & Yorkshire Rail & Sail. Jump in and see what takes your fancy for this year.

It is always important to me to listen to what our customers are telling us and doing what we can to make sure we provide the best possible, hassle-free experience. As a result of your feedback, we have reviewed our selection of hotels and conduct more hotel visits than ever before to ensure they meet our standards. We also continue to work closely with our coach and driver partners to bring you the best possible on-board experience and most importantly of all this year, we have decided to no longer run interchanges on UK coach holidays as a result of your feedback.

I hope you enjoy looking through these pages and find a holiday that will help you create shared and happy memories for years to come.

We look forward to welcoming you on a Just Go! holiday soon.

Isle of Wight ‘Royals & Rails’

5 Days from £349 Apr - Oct

With elegant resort towns, spotless beaches, old-fashioned charm and miles of unspoilt coastline, the Isle of Wight is the perfect place to enjoy a relaxing few days away. A firm favourite of Queen Victoria in the 19th century, the island is one of the UK’s most popular destinations and it’s easy to see why. On this fantastic break we enjoy the island’s peace, tranquility and natural beauty as well as a nostalgic journey on the Isle of Wight Steam Railway and a visit to fascinating Osborne House.

HOLIDAY HIGHLIGHTS

Osborne House & Cowes (full day)

We have the chance to explore Queen Victoria’s one-time residence on the island, Osborne House. Built as a holiday home and rural retreat in the late 1840s, the Italianate palace reflects Queen Victoria and Prince Albert’s tastes and boasts spectacular views across the Solent. It is no wonder that Victoria herself once said, ‘it’s impossible to imagine a prettier spot.’ Here we take an intimate glimpse of royal family life as we wander through the magnificent Royal Apartments as well as the walled gardens and grounds where we find the charming Swiss Cottage, used by the royal children to learn household management.

We then head to Cowes, a vibrant and sophisticated resort home to the world-famous regatta that swells the local population each August. Enjoy a stroll along the seafront, browse the boutique shops, or admire many of the town’s ornate buildings which date from Queen Victoria’s time, in the style popularised by Prince Albert. Isle of Wight Steam Railway & Ryde (full day) We journey back to a bygone era as we board the award-winning Isle of Wight Steam Railway at Havenstreet. Sit back and relax in beautifully restored Victorian and Edwardian carriages as we enjoy the rolling views of the glorious Isle of Wight countryside. We pass through quaint rural stations, quiet hamlets and ancient woodland on our journey to the seaside resort of Ryde.

“Elegant resort towns, spotless beaches, old-fashioned charm and miles of unspoilt coastline awaits.

Afterwards we spend some time at leisure in Ryde with its long stretch of golden sand, pretty esplanade, marina and beautiful gardens. Take a stroll along the famous 19th-century pier, the oldest in England, or admire the many boats moored in the town’s busy harbour.

OPTIONAL EXCURSION

Island Highlights Tour – £15pp (full day)

Our fantastic optional Island Highlights tour takes in this unique island’s many famous sights. After Ventnor, a pretty resort built on a series of terraces, we make for Alum Bay. Here we can admire the multi-coloured cliffs and famous chalky outcrop, The Needles. Next is the historic port town of Yarmouth which contains some of the oldest architecture on the island including a 16th-century castle. We continue on to Newport, regarded as the capital of the Isle of Wight, with a historic quayside and selection of specialty shops. We return to the hotel via the pretty inland village of Godshill where we can view from the coach its charming thatched-roofed cottages and delightful medieval church.

We explore this lovely landscape with a cruise on the picturesque River Dart, a scenic drive through the awe-inspiring Dartmoor National Park and spend time in the beautiful town of Dartmouth, where blue waters are fringed by colourful hillside houses. Home to a community of Benedictine monks, Buckfast Abbey lies on the banks of the River Dart. Here, we soak up the peaceful atmosphere and explore the beautiful Abbey church, with its art treasures. There’s also time to wander the tranquil gardens and browse the gift and produce shops. We then continue on a scenic drive through Dartmoor National Park; this wild heart of Devon is peppered with moss-blanketed boulders, honey-coloured heaths, tinkling streams and cinematic granite tors. Look out for rare wildlife before we reach our next stop; Princetown. This tiny moorland outpost is home to the foreboding Dartmoor prison and the Dartmoor National Park Visitor Centre, which was once the Old Duchy Hotel where Arthur Conan Doyle penned the eerie The Hound of the Baskervilles.

Our next stop is Tavistock. This classic West Country market town is the gateway to the Cornwall and West Devon Mining World Heritage Site. Explore the old streets, which throng with an eclectic mix of small independent shops and delicatessens, and peek behind the Town Hall to discover the award-winning and historic Pannier Market.

Dartmouth, River Dart Cruise & Totnes (full day)

We start the day with some time at leisure in the riverside town of Dartmouth. Former home of Agatha Christie, it is easily one of Devon’s prettiest destinations. Explore the pastel-coloured buildings leaning at angles and the picturesque harbour laden with yachts and pleasure boats.

Next, we enjoy a relaxing cruise along the calm waters of the River Dart, where we admire the magnificent buildings including the Britannia Royal Naval College and Agatha Christie’s Greenway Estate. Cameras at the ready for the Sharpham Estate with its vineyards, and steep, toppling wooded hillsides plunging to the water’s edge.

We disembark in the historic market town of Totnes, a helter-skelter of charming streets and fine Tudor buildings nestled beneath the silhouette of the sturdy Norman castle. We have time to explore the boutique shops famed for their range of ethical products, whole foods and fair trade goods.

Please note: the cruise itinerary may operate in reverse order subject to sailing times.

ITINERARY

Day 1 - Glasgow

We either travel by coach from your local area or fly to Glasgow and check in to our Holiday Inn at Glasgow Airport, where we stay overnight on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day

2

- Isle of Skye & Isle of Benbecula

A day of scenic beauty awaits. Leaving the hotel, we travel north to the pretty port of Mallaig and get a first glimpse of what Skye has to offer as we board a ferry for the short trip across to Armadale on the striking Sleat Peninsula. We make our way across the Isle of Skye, enjoying the stunning scenery and rugged landscapes to Uig, where we catch the ferry to Lochmaddy. We continue on to our hotel on the Isle of Benbecula, our base for the next two nights.

Day 3 - Island hopping

Today’s island hopping begins by taking the causeway across to South Uist, where the west coast boasts a beautifully unbroken sandy beach in contrast to the east, which is dominated by mountainous peaks. We then continue on to Eriskay, famous for its Eriskay Ponies and also for being the real ‘Whisky Galore’ island. It was just off Eriskay, between Great Todday and Little Todday that the SS Politician ran aground in 1941 with 50,000 cases of whisky aboard. The locals managed to save several hundred cases before the ship sank, providing them with a good supply of their ‘Water of Life’.

From here, enjoy the short ferry crossing to the Isle of Barra, considered by many to be the most beautiful little island in Britain. Its tranquil beaches, distinctive culture, where Gaelic is widely spoken, and an ancient history make any visit to Barra a memorable one. If time allows, we also venture across the causeway to stunning Vatersay, the most southerly inhabited island in the Outer Hebrides.

Day 4 - Stornoway

After a leisurely morning in Benbecula we collect a packed lunch and continue onwards to North Uist, via the Benbecula causeway. As a relatively flat island covered with peat bogs, low hills and lochans, North Uist is a birdwatchers’ paradise. We board the afternoon ferry for the one-hour crossing to Harris before travelling up the west coast past numerous unspoilt, white sandy beaches and some of the most breathtaking scenery in the Western Isles. The final leg of today’s journey is to lovely Lewis and our hotel in Stornoway, where we stay for two nights.

Day 5 - Isle of Lewis

The Isle of Lewis is the most northerly island in the Hebrides with a history that goes back thousands of years and where ancient standing stones can be found everywhere. We make the short journey over to the west coast and visit Callanish, home to an awesome collection of stone circles known as the Hebrides Stonehenge. Other sights on today’s excursion include the moorland interior where peat is still cut for fuel, traditional croft dwellings and Dun Carloway Broch, one of Scotland’s most well-preserved defensive structures dating back over 2,000 years.

Nostalgic Little Trains of the Isle of Man

7 Days from

£669 7 Days from £749 Apr - Oct

Mystical, captivating and beautiful, the Isle of Man is a unique destination peppered with enchanting stone churches, castles and forts, tangled trees and twisty trails, adding to the magical atmosphere of this sea-bound land. The Isle of Man also boasts several impressive heritage railways, offering nostalgic journeys for us to take in this dramatic Manx scenery, plus a traditional horse-drawn tramway along the seafront in Douglas. Step back in time as we experience the best of the Isle of Man’s sights and attractions during this relaxing week, uncovering the secrets of this extraordinary island and exploring its rich heritage.

ITINERARY

Day 1

We either travel by coach from your local area and catch the ferry from Heysham to Douglas or fly to the Isle of Man and transfer to our hotel.

Day 2 - Day at leisure in Douglas

Day 3 - Manx Electric Railway, Laxey Wheel & Snaefell Mountain Railway

We take a trip on the historic Manx Electric Railway, which still uses its original Victorian and Edwardian rolling stock. From Douglas, our train journeys along the scenic east coast with views of the beautiful Manx countryside on one side and far-reaching vistas beyond the stunning cliffs on the other. We disembark in Laxey to visit the Laxey Wheel, the largest working waterwheel in the world and known colloquially as the Lady Isabella. Admire this feat of Victorian engineering as we watch the mighty wheel turn and can even climb to the top for panoramic scenes from across the Glen Mooar Valley.

Day 4 - Douglas Bay Horse Tramway, Ramsey & Peel

This morning we step back in time and enjoy a ride on the Douglas Bay Horse Tramway along Douglas Promenade. The horse trams have been in existence since 1876 on the Isle of Man and have carried plenty of royal visitors, including Queen Elizabeth II, Queen Elizabeth, The Queen Mother and Princess Margaret.

“Mystical, captivating and beautiful, the Isle of Man is a unique destination with enchanting stone churches, castles and forts.

We continue to the peaceful port town of Ramsey, the island’s second-largest town, sheltered against the magnificent backdrop of the North Barrule hills. Home to masses of sand and shingle beach, the town also boasts one of the biggest harbours on the island. Next stop is Peel, a charming fishing port with a history spanning hundreds of years. Located on the west coast, Peel is renowned for its narrow lanes crammed with fishermen’s cottages, the striking red sandstone used to build its castle and the views of the Mountains of Mourne.

Day 5 - Day at leisure in Douglas

Day 6 - Castletown, Port Erin, Cregneash & Isle of Man Steam Railway

After some free time in Castletown, the original capital of the island, we journey to Port Erin, a peaceful town with pretty gardens and a sandy beach that was first favoured by Victorian holidaymakers. Next is a brief photo stop at The Sound at the island’s southern tip, a hotspot for local wildlife, from sunbathing seals on the rocks to basking sharks and dolphins in the blue waters below. Continuing with more Isle of Man highlights, we discover the fascinating living museum of Cregneash Folk Village, one of the last settlements on the island that embraces the native Manx culture. Here we explore the crofting way of life in a carefully maintained village full of white, thatched cottages and period workshops, with painstaking displays of traditional practices and residents continue to use the old local dialect.

We end the day with a scenic trip from Port St Mary, a beautiful small harbour, back to Douglas on the well-preserved, narrow-gauge Isle of Man Steam Railway. As the island’s oldest Victorian rail system, this journey offers a mesmerising glimpse into the golden age of steam in restored vintage carriages, travelling through glorious countryside, sparkling shorelines, past quaint towns and charming fishing ports.

Jersey Liberation - 80th Anniversary Celebrations

6 Days from £849 7 May

The Channel Islands were the only part of the British Isles to be occupied by German forces during the Second World War. As Hitler ordered Jersey to be transformed into an impregnable fortress, hundreds of bunkers, anti-tank walls and tunnel complexes were built, traffic had to drive on the other side of the road and the island was moved to Central European time. When news broke out that the German army had surrendered in May 1945, Winston Churchill soon crackled onto the airwaves, uttering the words ‘our dear Channel Islands are also to be freed today.’ Jubilant crowds greeted the liberating forces, and the Union Jack was hoisted at Pomme d’Or for the first time in five years. This glorious day is commemorated every year in Jersey, and on this break we join in with the island’s 80th anniversary celebrations. We also explore the traces of the German occupation scattered across the island with a specialist guide, and discover fascinating insights into the lives of Jersey’s residents during 1940-45.

ITINERARY

Day 1

We fly to Jersey and transfer to our hotel in St Helier.

Day 2 - Jersey World War II Tour

This morning we head to Noirmont Point, the most southerly headland in Jersey. Overlooking Portelet Bay with stunning views, the area was the ideal location to mount powerful guns. Work started in 1941 and the construction of Batterie Lothringen was finally completed in May 1944. The M-132 Underground Command Bunker was also built in the same area, which extends to a depth of 40ft. The bunker has been magnificently restored and offers a fascinating insight into the defence of the island from any Allied attacks.

Located in the north west of the island is Les Landes. Overlooking the other Channel Islands and comprised of four gun emplacements and an associated underground complex. One of the gun emplacements has been restored, along with underground passages that link up to a Kriegsmarine M151 personnel shelter that could house 27 men and has a two-metre-thick ceiling.

We also visit the fascinating war tunnels, one of Jersey’s historical highlights that offers an insight into life under the control of occupying Germany during the Second World War. In this immense underground complex, we discover how the Nazis turned this small island into a fortress through the faithfully recreated rooms and detailed exhibitions on display, complete with artefacts from the time, and learn what life was like for the population during one of the most tumultuous periods in Jersey’s modern history.

Day 3-5 - Liberation Day Celebration (Days at Leisure)

Enjoy the celebration and festivities ongoing throughout St Hellier. From a procession to Liberation Square and a service of thanksgiving to re-enactments and special events, there is plenty to see and reflect upon. Our tour manager is on hand at the hotel with the Celebration programme and list of events over the three days.

An Irish Discovery – Galway & the Cliffs of Moher

6 Days from £799

Apr, Aug, Sep & Oct

Majestic mountains and captivating cliffs, the west coast of Ireland is our destination of discovery on this five-day holiday. With unique visits and experiences along the Wild Atlantic Way, we explore the breathtaking scenery of some of the most stunning spots in the region, including Kilfenora and the Cliffs of Moher. We also discover traditional Irish farming, locally sourced food, the unique geology of Killary Ford and the history of Kylemore Abbey, an iconic monastery with stunning walled gardens. Whether you’re a history enthusiast, nature lover, or simply curious about local heritage then an incredible Irish discovery awaits.

ITINERARY

Day 1

We catch the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin where our tour manager joins us. We continue onwards to our hotel in the Dublin area for our overnight stay.

Day

2

– Killary Fjord Cruise

Today we embark on a captivating journey through Killary Fjord, Ireland’s only fjord, and experience the stunning natural beauty of the region. As we cruise along the 16-kilometre-long inlet, we are surrounded by majestic mountains and lush landscapes that create a breathtaking backdrop. This scenic cruise offers a unique perspective on the area’s geology, wildlife and history, providing an unforgettable experience for nature lovers and adventure seekers alike. We enjoy the serene waters and remember to keep an eye out for dolphins, seals and a variety of seabirds that call this pristine environment home.

Day 3 – Glen Keen Herding Experience & Kylemore Abbey

We start the day at the Glen Keen Farm for a hands-on, authentic Irish farm experience. Here we enjoy the unique opportunity to engage with traditional farming activities and learn about the rich cultural heritage of the region. During our visit, we can participate in sheep herding demonstrations, watch skilled sheepdogs in action and even try our hand at shearing sheep. After our demonstrations and experiences, we have a bite to eat in the farm’s café, which serves delicious, locally sourced food.

Our day continues with a visit to Kylemore Abbey, home to a monastic community of nuns since 1920. Inside, we explore the six-acre Victorian Walled Garden where only flower and vegetable varieties from that era are grown. This was one of the last walled gardens built in Ireland during the Victorian period, and its magnificence at the time was compared to London’s Kew Gardens.

Day 4 – Kilfenora Visitor Centre & Cliffs of Moher

For our first excursion of the day, we travel to the Kilfenora Visitor Centre. Located in the heart of the Burren, the centre offers a unique insight into the rich history and culture of Kilfenora. Here, we explore fascinating exhibits that delve into the ancient traditions, stunning landscapes and vibrant community life of this remarkable region.

We continue to our second location of the day, the magnificent Cliffs of Moher, including the fascinating visitor centre, which brings the different aspects of the cliffs to life. Stretching for eight miles along County Clare’s Atlantic Coast and 214m at their highest, the cliffs offer stunning views towards the Aran Islands and Galway Bay from three different viewing platforms. They are also home to one of the major colonies of cliff-nesting seabirds in Ireland.

Day

5 – Galway

We head across to Galway, a thriving, cosmopolitan city with the added bonus of a seaside setting. We enjoy a guided city tour with our tour manager, followed by free time to explore the city, which was named the European Capital of Culture for 2020! There is plenty to see in Galway, including the Latin Quarter with its cobblestone streets and colourful shops, Galway Cathedral, one of the largest and most impressive buildings in the city, and Salthill Promenade on the seafront, to name a but a few!

Day 6

We check out of our hotel very early to catch the ferry back to Holyhead; therefore, a voucher will be provided to enjoy breakfast on board. On arrival in Holyhead, we continue our journey home. Due to ferry times, coach pickup times may be very early in the morning.

Hidden Heartlands of Ireland

6 Days from £749 Aug, Sep & Oct

Join us on a journey of discovery through Ireland’s Hidden Heartlands, an enchanting region characterised by fairytale forests, trickling streams, towering mountains and a lovely slower pace of life. Amidst this beauty, we soak up the county’s cultural heritage with visits to one of the country’s most famous monastic sites (dating back to 544!), the oldest whiskey distillery in Ireland and a grand estate which documents powerful stories of the Great Famine. A cruise along the River Shannon, a visit to Galway and the chance to explore Dublin rounds off this magical escape to the Emerald Isle.

ITINERARY

Day 1

We catch the ferry from Holyhead to Dublin where we meet our tour manager. We continue onwards to the Bloomfield House Hotel, Leisure Club & Spa, where we stay for the next four nights.

Day 2 – Clonmacnoise Monastic Site, Strokestown Park & Old Kilbeggan Distillery For our first visit we head to the impressive Clonmacnoise Monastic Site, one of the most significant early Christian locations in Europe, where 6th-century ruins still stand proudly on the banks of the River Shannon. Founded by St Ciarán, it became an important seat of learning with scholars flocking from all over Europe to visit and was also closely associated with the kings of Connacht until the 9th century. It’s a fascinating experience to walk amongst the cathedral, two round towers, carved high crosses, nine churches and hundreds of early Christian gravestones to really imagine what has gone before us here, and there’s also an informative visitor centre to learn more.

We continue to Strokestown Park, an atmospheric Anglo-Irish estate consisting of a Palladian-style Georgian house, once home to a renowned military family for over three centuries, as well as lovely gardens and the National Famine Museum. State-of-the-art exhibits, immersive displays, local documents, tragic stories and unique artefacts combine to bring to life a moving part of Ireland’s history while comparing the lives of Strokestown’s aristocratic landlords and their tenants.

Our last stop of the day is the famous Old Kilbeggan Distillery, the country’s oldest licensed distillery, housed in charming buildings. Established in 1757, it’s now one part museum and one part distillery with authentic features on display such as the 19th-century waterwheel, offering the perfect chance to learn all about the traditional Irish whiskey-making process.

Day 3 – Galway

Today we visit Galway, a thriving, cosmopolitan city and the European Capital of Culture in 2020. It may be the fastest growing city in Ireland, but it has managed to retain its enchanting atmosphere with its cobbled streets, colourful buildings and lovely seafront location on the magical Wild Atlantic Way. We enjoy a guided walking tour to discover the landmark spots and also include admission to the Galway City Museum, which celebrates local and national cultural heritage, from prehistoric Galway right through to the present day. Afterwards, there is time to find somewhere for lunch (not included) and to browse the little shops for souvenirs – think cosy Aran sweaters, unique crafts and iconic Claddagh rings!

Day 4 – The Shannon & Knock

This morning, we make our way to the quaint village of Carrick, where we board our cruise on the River Shannon, the longest in Ireland and entwined with ancient folklore. Sit back and relax as we meander along the pretty waterways, admiring the beautiful scenery and ancient sites along its banks.

Next stop is Knock, a small village nestled in County Mayo and a popular Christian pilgrimage site thanks to the Knock Shrine, where 15 people witnessed an apparition of the Virgin Mary, St Joseph and St John the Evangelist in 1879 (their testimonies are a fascinating read). We can find out more in Knock Museum, which covers 140 years of history and features a fantastic model village, or take in the views over the Shannon Estuary, Clonderlaw Bay and Kilkerrin Peninsula.

Day 5 – Optional guided city tour of Dublin (£16pp)

Finally, we head to Dublin and enjoy an optional guided tour with our tour manager. With its fascinating past, iconic landmarks and plethora of convivial pubs serving up the perfect pint of Guinness, Dublin never fails to charm its visitors. After our guided tour, there’s free time in the city before enjoying our last evening in an overnight hotel here.
