Hotel Ratings Explained

So often hotels receive different ratings from different authorities. To avoid any surprises and give you added peace of mind, we have created JG hotel ratings based upon our knowledge of hotels and customer feedback, so you know what to expect and are sure you’re choosing the right hotel for you.

JG3

Hotels with a JG3 rating tend to be a formal style of hotel, often part of a hotel chain, or are very-welcoming familyowned properties. Generally, they offer a great range of facilities and services, and bedrooms tend to be spacious with additional features. Public areas include lounge seating, bar and restaurant with good quality food served either buffet style or waiter service.

JG4

Accommodation in our JG4 category is of an even higher standard, typically offering a wide range of facilities and services. Bedrooms are designed to make your stay the most comfortable possible and the staff provide a service that reflects the detail and quality. You can also expect higher standards of food and beverages.

Berkeley Castle (A Festive Tour of the Cotswolds & the Chilterns Stately Homes)

As a near-complete medieval survival, Gloucestershire’s Berkeley Castle offers a real window into the past. Its walls are full of secrets, and you can even see the room in which King Edward II is believed to have been murdered after his wife Isabella and her lover usurped the monarch’s power.

Lavenham Guildhall (Stately Suffolk & Constable County)

Travel back 500 years at Lavenham Guildhall, an exquisite timber-framed building with a rich history, from the centre of wool trade and a religious guild to a prison and beyond. It’s both fascinating and heartbreaking to discover the tales of fortunes, hardship and bravery associated with this architectural gem, particularly the story of little Anne Baker here.

Greenway (Devon’s Past Mysteries Revealed)

While Greenway was once used as part of D-Day preparations (look out for the frieze in the library painted by one of the US Coastguards), it was also the beloved holiday home of Agatha Christie. See where she read her thrilling manuscripts to friends and head out to the Boathouse, the scene of the crime in Dead Man’s Folly

Newton House at Dinefwr (The Rich Heritage & Beautiful Gardens of the Brecon Beacons)

Compare what life was like below and above stairs in the beautiful Welsh mansion of Newton House. Once a family home to the descendants of Lord Rhys, the Prince of the Welsh Kingdom of the Deheubarth, there are plenty of treasures to uncover, including intriguing objects unearthed during its 20th-century restoration.

Highgrove (The King’s Playground: at Home with the Aristocrats of the Cotswolds)

Nestled in an idyllic setting near pretty Tetbury, it’s easy to see why King Charles chose Highgrove as his private residence in 1980. Ever since, he has transformed the surrounding gardens and on selected dates throughout the year Their Royal Highnesses invite the public to admire their horticultural haven – it truly is a must-see.

The King's Playground: at Home with the Aristocrats of the Cotswolds

5 Days from £1,099 Sunday 18 May & Sunday 8 June

Delve into the world of aristocracy on this idyllic tour to the Cotswolds, a quintessential region of rolling countryside and honey-hued towns with royal connections that span the centuries. We see how the area enchanted King Charles III when he chose Highgrove as his private family home in 1980 and are treated to a guided garden tour plus a two-course lunch here. During our break, we also unearth fascinating stories at other treasures such as Berkeley Castle, learn how the magical Forest of Dean was once exclusively used as a royal hunting ground and admire a collection of stunning horticultural gems, from Painswick Rococo Gardens to the colourful grounds surrounding Badminton House, discovering how the landed gentry once lived along the way.

ITINERARY

Excursion One – Painswick Rococo Garden & Berkeley Castle

For our first excursion we take a guided tour of the stunning Painswick Rococo Garden. Initially designed in the 1740s as an English country gentleman’s pleasure garden and a venue for hosting intimate garden parties, it is now the country’s sole surviving complete Rococo garden, so-called for its winding pathways and imaginative follies, full of architectural charm and fragrant blooms.

We then head to Berkeley Castle, built by Robert Fitzharding in the 12th century and ordered by Henry II to defend the Severn estuary and the Welsh border. Berkeley is a real jewel, an almost complete medieval survival that allows us to imagine how it might have been to live there with its fine rooms and magnificent collections, which have appeared on screen in the hugely successful Poldark and Wolf Hall. Reigning monarch Edward II was sent here as a prisoner after his wife Isabella and her lover Roger Mortimer usurped his power, and we can even see the room where he is supposed to have been murdered in 1327. The castle is also the oldest building in the country to be inhabited by the same family who built it, and the Berkeley family are one of only four in England who can trace their ancestry from father to son right back to Saxon times.

We learn more about the history and unique items within the castle on our fascinating guided tour.

Excursion Two – Highgrove Gardens & Badminton House Gardens

Today we are treated to a guided tour of Highgrove Gardens, the organic gardens of Their Majesties.

Over 30 years in the making, Highgrove has one of the most creatively inspired and innovative gardens in the country and embodies The King’s environmental philosophy ‘it is better to work with nature than against it’. Each area has its own character and purpose and includes the Kitchen Garden, the stunning Wildflower Meadow and a National Collection of Beech trees, with Highgrove House always visible in the distance. Highgrove is also just a few miles from Gatcombe Park, the country residence of Anne, Princess Royal. To round off our time here, we enjoy a two-course lunch.

Our next stop is Badminton House. Nestled within an expansive rural idyll, this impressive country estate performed on screen for a variety of Bridgerton scenes, including the home of Lady Danbury, the Duke and Daphne’s morning rooms and the inside of the Foundling Hospital in the London slums. Very versatile indeed! This historic gem has also played host to royalty, including Charles II, William of Orange (who stayed here on his return from the Battle of the Boyne) and Queen Mary, George V’s beloved wife who resided here for much of the Second World War. The estate is the current ancestral home of the Duke and Duchess of Beaufort, and we find out more about them and the history of the property during our visit here. We also take a private guided tour of the gardens, filled with vibrant flowers and a delight to explore in the springtime. We learn how the first Duchess of Beaufort, Mary Somerset, collected thousands of plants from across the world and created a beautiful garden in the 17th century, while the famous Capability Brown later assisted with the landscape design. Excursion Three – Puzzlewood, the Speech House Hotel & Westbury Court Garden

We spend time exploring the beautiful Forest of Dean and its surroundings today, once an exclusive hunting round for Tudor monarchs and a main source of food for royal banquets, with the timber being used for warships. We retrace their steps and head into the heart of the forest at Puzzlewood, one of the most enchanting ancient woodlands in the country. With a fairytale-like atmosphere, twisted roots along winding pathways and dappled sunlight filtering through moss-covered trees, it's no surprise that this has been a filming location for hits such as Star Wars, The Secret Garden and more. It is also believed to be the inspiration behind The Lord of the Rings and, incredibly, around 3,000 Roman-era coins were uncovered here in 1848.

Our next stop is the historic Speech House Hotel, where we enjoy lunch. Originally built for Charles II as a hunting lodge, this architectural gem then housed court proceedings for the protection of forest venison and was severely damaged in the Revolution of 1688, but by 1840 it began to be used as a welcoming inn. Look out for original features during our time here, including the open fireplace, centuries-old antlers, a royal coat of arms, paintings and carved oak chairs (which were once stolen and were taken on a journey through Portugal and Spain, only to end up at an auction house in London before they were rightfully returned)!

The day concludes with a visit to Westbury Court Garden, the country’s only restored Dutch-style water garden with canals, a pool, topiary and vegetable plots. Laid out between 1696 and 1705, it was designed by Maynard Colchester to be a source of food as well as pleasure, and it now appears as it did all those centuries ago, with tulips, fruit trees and neat hedges amongst other horticultural delights. For a lovely view, head up to the Tall Pavilion, which also displays Johannes Kip's early 18th century engraved prints of the garden.

Devon’s Past Mysteries Revealed

6 Days from £1,099 Sunday 18 May, Sunday 1 June & Sunday 7 September

With its mysterious isles along the coast, bewitching landscapes and houses full of secrets, it’s no wonder that beautiful Devon has inspired writers for hundreds of years. Coleton Fishacre’s 30s opulence (and bottle of suspicious poison in the Butler’s pantry!) instantly transports us to the pages of an Agatha Christie novel, and our celebration of the Queen of Crime continues throughout this special break, based in the same seafront hotel where she spent her wedding night. We discover her beloved holiday retreat of Greenway, indulge in afternoon tea at the beautiful Art Deco Burgh Island Hotel where she penned two of her most famous novels, and enjoy a Gardener-led tour of Torre Abbey’s award-winning grounds, home to a number of poisonous plants connected to Christie and her stories. During our enthralling exploration of Devon’s past, we also discover nautical Plymouth, full of legend and myths of smugglers tunnels, mutinies, secret pirates coves and more.

ITINERARY

Excursion One – Greenway & Torquay

Agatha Christie Walking Tour

For our first excursion we take the foot ferry to Greenway, the much-loved holiday home of Agatha Christie and her family. Nestled on the side of the River Dart and surrounded by a picturesque woodland garden, this atmospheric house is set in the 1950s and contains many of the family’s collections. As we wander through the atmospheric rooms, imagine Christie reading her latest mystery novel to her guests.

“Full of legend and myths of smugglers tunnels, mutinies, secret pirates coves and more.

We head back to sunny Torquay, not only famous for its continental harbour and palm-tree lined promenade, but also as the birthplace of The Queen of Crime. Did you know that this is where Agatha Christie learned about poisons while working as a pharmacist? We take a guided walking tour of the Agatha Christie Mile, retracing her steps and ticking off the 11 seafront locations connected to her life and works.

Excursion Two – Torre Abbey & Coleton Fishacre

This morning we head to Torre Abbey, an atmospheric history and art museum housed in Torbay’s most historic buildings. After time to look around, the award-winning garden awaits, where we’re treated to an intriguing Gardener tour. Given that over half of Agatha Christie’s characters were poisoned, we discover a range of sinister shrubs, including the sources for cyanide, morphine and ricin. For the detectives among us, there are clues in the plant beds around the garden to help decipher missing story titles, and every plant in this mystery is tied to the Queen of Crime in some way; whether they appear in her stories or are connected to her personal life.

Next up is Coleton Fishacre, a 1920s Arts and Crafts-style house built for the D’Oyly Carte family. The property instantly transports its visitors to the Jazz Age, almost Christie-like in its setting, and there are plenty of rooms to discover, from the opulent Saloon to the servant’s rooms. Look out for the bottle of poison in the Butler’s pantry too, brought here to dissolve rust stains from laundry linen (or so we’re told)! The sophistication of the house’s surviving Art Deco interior beautifully contrasts with the tropical 30-acre garden, complete with views out to sea.

Excursion Three – Saltram & Plymouth

We head to Saltram, an elegant Georgian mansion set in a rolling landscape park and one of the National Trust’s least discovered treasures. Home to the Parker family for several generations, the house is a rare survival of the period; particularly because it comes complete with its original, impressively lavish contents, including stunning paintings, ceramics and textiles. Those who dare can also find out more about the supposed Ghost of Saltram here. Upon our return to the mainland, we enjoy some free time in Plymouth Hoe, with its wonderful waterfront, rich maritime heritage, lovely views over Plymouth Sound and famous promenade, which features a memorial to Sir Francis Drake (who was playing bowls on the Hoe when he saw the Spanish Armada begin to invade!). Don’t miss the historic Barbican, a vibrant labyrinth of cobbled streets and smuggler’s alleyways, as well as Sutton Harbour.

After breakfast, we make our way to the Britannia Royal Naval College* in pretty Dartmouth. We take a captivating, guided tour of the UK’s naval academy, learning about its past glories as we weave through the Chapel, Quarterdeck, Parade Ground, Senior Gun Room and Britannia Heritage Museum. Our tour also treads the path of royalty; this is where George V, George VI and His Majesty The King were naval cadets, and where Prince Philip and Princess Elizabeth had their first significant encounter.

*Please note that visitors need to present photographic ID.

Depending on tide times, we either make the short walk or take the sea tractor over to Burgh Island, where we are treated to afternoon tea at the beautiful Art Deco hotel. Built in 1929 and extended in 1932, the hotel has been restored to its 30s glamour and offers an opulent glimpse into the past. Previous guests include Winston Churchill, Josephine Baker, Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, and you can just visualise Agatha Christie writing two novels here (Evil Under the Sun and And Then There Were None) with the glitz of the hotel appealing to her as a literary setting. Afterwards we return to Torquay for some free time.

Stately Suffolk & Constable Country

5 Days from £949 Monday

Suffolk is a county filled with picturesque countryside vistas, charming villages and historic wool towns that have changed little since the Tudor period, with their timber-framed buildings and crooked streets. We step back in time in lovely Lavenham, one of the best preserved and wealthiest towns in Tudor England, and explore Constable Country, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where we walk in the footsteps of painter John Constable, discovering the stunning rural landscapes that inspired his greatest work.

ITINERARY

Excursion One – West Stow Hall

Our visit today is West Stow Hall, where we enjoy a fascinating guided tour with refreshments.

This picturesque house is said to have been built by Sir John Croftes, Master of the Horse to Henry VIII’s sister, Mary Tudor. Originally, the house was surrounded by a moat until it was filled in in 1840.

Take the time to marvel at the Hall’s dignified architecture, with its decorative brick gatehouse, and explore the six acres of gardens, woods and paddocks here.

In the afternoon, we return to our hotel to relax or explore Bury St. Edmunds at our leisure.

Excursion Two – Constable Country: Flatford, Dedham & East Bergholt

We take a Blue Badge guided tour of Constable Country, travelling first to the picturesque Stour Valley and Dedham Vale, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty made famous by the paintings of John Constable. We stop first in the picturesque hamlet of Flatford, where we admire some of the key views and locations which inspired many of Constable’s iconic paintings, including Flatford Mill and Willy Lott’s House, immortalised in The Haywain

Finally, we visit East Bergholt, located on the north bank of the River Stour, where Constable was born in 1776.

Excursion Three – Lavenham, Lavenham Guildhall & Melford Hall

Picturesque Lavenham is a remarkably well-preserved Tudor village which was one of the richest towns in England during the 15th century, thanks to the woollen-cloth industry. Here, we enjoy a guided walking tour learning more about the village’s fascinating history. We also visit Lavenham Guildhall, a fine timber-framed building that is a potent reminder of Lavenham’s former prosperity. During our introductory talk, we discover the stories of the people who have used the Guildhall through its almost 500 years at the heart of the community.

In the afternoon, we make our way to Melford Hall for a guided tour. During its history, this red-brick Tudor mansion with picturesque turrets has played host to Queen Elizabeth I, seen Civil War unrest and survived a disastrous fire in 1942. ITINERARY

Excursion One – Brecon Mountain Railway & Craig Y Nos Castle

We take the Heads of the Valley road to Pant, a small village near the Welsh border, where we board our vintage train and take a trip on the Brecon Mountain Railway, which follows part of the original route of the 1859-built Brecon & Merthyr Railway. Sit back and relax as we meander through beautiful Brecon scenery and along the full length of the sparkling Taf Fechan Reservoir before climbing to Torpantau, the summit of the original line.

We continue to Craig Y Nos Castle on the southeastern edge of the Black Mountain, the former home of the famous Italian 19th-century opera singer, Adelina Patti. We are treated to lunch and a guided tour, learning all about the history of the property, Patti’s time here and the Grade I listed opera house, built to be her private auditorium, as well as the castle’s transformation into a tuberculosis hospital. Outside, the beautiful, landscaped grounds are managed by the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Excursion Two – Newton House at Dinefwr & National Botanic Garden of Wales

Today begins with a visit to Newton House, the heart of the Dinefwr estate and a beautiful Grade II listed mansion with a fairytale castellated structure. Built in 1660, it was home to the Rhys family for over 300 years, descendants of Lord Rhys, the Prince of the Welsh Kingdom of Deheubarth. Although a Gothic facade was added in 1850, many original 17th-century features remain inside, from the elegant ceilings to the grand staircase. There are many objects to discover too, including a charred book page dated 1689, an 18th-century silver thimble and intriguing items uncovered during the restoration from 19992000, believed to ward off evil spirits. We can find out more on the first-floor exhibition rooms, a fascinating

Set in historic parkland dating back some 400 years, the garden boasts a range of themed gardens as well as a nature reserve. We also enjoy lunch here.

A memorable experience awaits at the Rhondda Heritage Park, where we follow in the footsteps of the coal miners who once worked in the valley and learn about the area’s mining heritage. After our guided tour, we are treated to a traditional male Welsh choir performance, complete with refreshments.

Excursion One – Raglan Castle, Wye Valley Scenic Drive, Eastnor Castle & Evening Concert

For our first excursion we head to the imposing Raglan Castle, a late medieval fortress with impressive features such as the moated Great Tower of 1425 and the large hexagonal keep. Regarded as one of the grandest castles ever built by Welshmen, it was once a significant stronghold during the Civil War yet was deliberately slighted and, consequently, left to ruin for centuries. One of its looted treasures, a piece of historic Tudor wooden panelling, is on display in the visitor centre after it was found in a cow shed in the 1950s! The original structure of the Renaissance gardens can also be seen outside, which in their heyday boasted terraces, knot gardens and a water parterre.

Next, we take a scenic drive in the nearby Wye Valley and follow the Black and White Village Trail, where the medieval timber-framed architecture offers lovely symbols of this region’s past. We arrive at our second castle visit of the day – Eastnor Castle, a stunning location at the foot of the Malvern Hills and home of the Hervey-Bathurst family.

We then head back to our hotel for an early dinner and to change for our evening concert – time to sit back and savour some fine choral music at the beautiful Hereford Cathedral.

Excursion Two – Hay-on-Wye, Hereford Cathedral & Mappa Mundi

We begin our second day out with a trip to the pretty little town of Hay-on-Wye, which promises to be a treat for bibliophiles! Often described as ‘the town of books’, it’s the National Book Town of Wales and home to over 20 independent bookshops selling second hand, antiquarian and rare books. Steeped in history and bursting with character, there’s plenty to see on our brief panoramic tour, followed by free time.

We take a closer look at the spectacular Hereford Cathedral today. Built on a place of worship used since Saxon times, this ancient treasure has some of the finest examples of art and architecture from Norman times to the present day. The cathedral houses renowned international objects, including the famous Mappa Mundi, the largest surviving medieval map of the world and adorned with over 500 drawings of cities, towns, Biblical happenings, plants, people, animals and more. It offers a remarkable window to the 13th century, as it immortalises how the scholars of the day interpreted the world both geographically and spiritually, with Jerusalem at the map’s centre.

The cathedral is also home to the largest surviving medieval chained library, with the earliest book being the 8th-century Hereford Gospels.

Later we return to the hotel for dinner and our final evening together.

5 Days from £849 Sunday 7 December

Capture the essence of a classical English Christmas and soak up the festivities at stately homes, lit up with twinkling lights and nestled in the rolling hills of the Cotswolds and Chilterns. These grand residences such as Blenheim Palace, Sudeley Castle and Berkeley Castle come alive at this wonderful time of year. We enjoy a lovely drive through pretty Cotswold villages, guided tours and the Sudeley Light Trail and Blenheim Light trail, all softly illuminated for the festive season.

ITINERARY

Excursion One – Dyrham Park & No 1 Royal Crescent in Bath

We start our day with a visit to Dyrham Park, a magnificent estate nestled in the heart of South Gloucestershire. The 270-acre parkland is home to an impressive 17th-century mansion with rich connections to the British Empire. The rooms are full of beautiful Christmas decorations and yuletide ornaments adorning the antique furniture, fine art and fascinating historical artefacts. As we explore these grand rooms, we glimpse into the elegance and style of a bygone era. From the opulent Great Hall to the charming private chambers, there is much to see, and each space tells a unique story. Outside, the parkland offers a perfect blend of natural beauty and rich history.

After our visit, we continue to an iconic address in Bath

– No 1 Royal Crescent. Here we enjoy a self-guided tour of this popular Georgian townhouse museum which was used for the exterior of Lady Featherington’s home in the hit Netflix series Bridgerton The stunning Georgian interiors dazzle with festive decorations, making our visit even more special. There is also time to enjoy free time at leisure in Bath to see the sights before we return to Cheltenham for our evening meal at the hotel.

Stow-on-the-Wold, renowned for its traditional stone buildings and wonderful collection of artisan boutiques.

Afterwards, we head to Blenheim Palace, designed on an awe-inspiring scale by Vanbrugh and set in beautiful parkland landscaped by Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown. As the seat of the Dukes of Marlborough, the palace is synonymous with the Churchill family and is the birthplace of Sir Winston Churchill. With twinkling Christmas trees and pretty decorations, the Palace has a magical atmosphere during the holidays, with plenty of tempting goodies on offer at the enchanting Christmas Market. We enjoy the delightful atmosphere with the Christmas Light Trail through the gardens, all lit up with glowing lights, along with festive songs filling the air.

Excursion Three – Berkeley Castle & Sudeley Light Trail

We start the day with a guided tour of Berkeley Castle, built by Robert Fitzharding in the 12th century and ordered by Henry II to defend the Severn estuary and the Welsh border. Berkeley is a real jewel, an almost complete medieval survival that allows us to imagine how it might have been to live here, complete with sparkling trees and twinkling lights. Reigning monarch Edward II was sent to Berkeley as a prisoner after his wife Isabella and her lover Roger Mortimer usurped his power, and we can even see the room where he is supposed to have been murdered in 1327. The castle is also the oldest building in the country to be inhabited by the same family who built it, and the Berkeley family are one of only four in England who can trace their ancestry from father to son right back to Saxon times. Later, a lovely festive experience awaits at Sudeley Castle, an exquisite Cotswolds gem. The magnificent fortress creates a spectacular backdrop for the Spectacle of Light, where delightful music, light beams, colourful lanterns, twinkling illuminations and sparkling water features combine to create an enchanting trail around the grounds – it’s a real highlight of the Cotswolds festive calendar.

Single supplement £260

How much is my deposit and when is my final balance due?

The deposit payable at the time of booking is £150 per person. If you don’t wish to pay the full balance in one go; the remaining payment is due 10 weeks before departure. For bookings made after the balance due date; full payment is due at the time of booking. You can also make interim payments anytime between paying the deposit and the balance due date.

Why do I have to pay a single supplement?

We sympathise with the frustration single supplements can cause and we acknowledge that it may be a barrier to booking for many. Unfortunately, many of our hotels charge by room, not by occupancy. However, we continuously work with our suppliers to keep our single supplements as low as possible. Will get a detailed itinerary to take with me?

Yes, your full itinerary will be posted approximately seven days prior to departure, along with your final confirmation documents.

How many travellers in our group?

In most cases there will be no more than 30 to 40 travellers in the group.

Check-in & car parking

For those making their own way to the hotel by car, the vast majority of hotels offer free parking. Please ask for details on hotels where car parking charges apply. Please be aware that at some hotels parking can be limited and is not guaranteed. You should aim to arrive at the hotel no earlier than 3pm.

I have mobility concerns – can bring a walking aid? You must advise us if anyone in your party has mobility concerns – the minimum requirements are that you are able to climb the steps onto a coach unaided. Please read the tour itinerary carefully to make sure it is appropriate for your mobility level. Due to weight and space limitations we can only accommodate a maximum of two walking aids on to each coach, either collapsible wheelchairs or collapsible walking frames or one of each; the maximum weight of any aid must not exceed 15kg. Therefore you must pre-book a space when you book your holiday and confirmation of this will be on our correspondence to you.

Hotel Accessibility Information

Due to weight and space restrictions we can only accommodate one mobility scooter on a coach. If you wish to bring a mobility scooter you must reserve a space at the time of booking, and this will be available on a first come first served basis. Once the space is taken we will be unable to accommodate any additional mobility scooters. When you book we will ask for the scooter’s dimensions and confirm in writing whether it can be carried. Acceptance is not guaranteed as this may depend on the size and weight of the scooter and the coach. If you do not receive confirmation that a mobility scooter space has been reserved you will not be able to bring one and if you try to do so we will not allow you to travel. In such circumstances your holiday will be deemed as cancelled by you and full cancellation charges will apply.

We regret we cannot carry any motorised wheelchairs.

Please also be aware that some of our hotels may charge you for charging your scooter battery; some hotels may not be able to accommodate mobility scooters due to their structural design, so while we may have room on the coach, if the hotel cannot support it, then we may have to decline your request to bring it along.

Will dinners be on a group basis?

Yes, we believe as you are travelling with like-minded people you will likely find them interesting and congenial company.

Therefore dinners at the hotel will be at a specific time each evening with tables set out in 4s, 6s and 8s, so you may share the day’s experiences together. Menus will be set but with three choices for each of the three courses. Some restaurants may feature buffet-style service.

What do I do if I have special dietary needs?

Customers are requested to inform us of any food allergies/ requests at the time of booking and we will attempt to accommodate them, however special arrangements cannot be guaranteed. Customers who are coeliac or follow a gluten-free diet are advised to contact the hotel before arrival to check if the diet is catered for. Some customers take their own bread for breakfasts. Customers with severe food allergies or dietary requirements are advised to make appropriate arrangements with the hotel prior to commencing their tour and speak to the hotel staff on arrival.

How long will we spend at each excursion?

Visiting times are based on the recommendation of property staff, and we aim to allow ample time to explore and take refreshment.

Railway excursions

Please note that journeys on certain railways may not always be steam hauled, even when pictured in this brochure as being so. Diesel locomotive trains are sometimes in use on certain journeys over which, regrettably, we have no control.

Are the excursions guaranteed to run on the day specified in the brochure?

Our brochures and itineraries are put together sometimes over a year in advance therefore, unfortunately, things may change before the tour takes place and some excursions may be swapped from one day to another.
