Spend the last day of 2023 on our Island Highlights tour, which provides the perfect way to takes in this unique island’s many famous sights. The pretty esplanade is home to a wonderful selection of boutiques, museums and galleries, and there’s also a charming marina to explore. We then head to Cowes – a quaint Georgian town boasting variety of fascinating museums – before we travel to the historic port town of Yarmouth which contains some of the oldest architecture on the island including a 16th-century castle. Afterwards we make for Alum Bay, here we can admire the multi-coloured cliffs and famous chalky outcrop The Needles. We conclude our tour in Ventnor, a pretty resort built on a series of terraces.

Day 1

We catch the ferry to Calais and travel on to check in at our hotel, where we stay on a bed and breakfast basis. We have �me to choose a local restaurant for dinner.

Day 2

Today we travel to an enchan�ng Christmas market. Meander through a sea of tradi�onal stalls with a glass of fes�ve cheer or warming hot chocolate in hand, enjoy a tasty treat and browse the selec�on of handicra�s, original trinkets and other curios. We have �me to choose a local restaurant for dinner before returning to our hotel.

Day 3

We set off for Maastricht, where we enjoy some �me at leisure. Maastricht is one of the oldest ci�es in the Netherlands, full of churches, city walls, merchant houses and big squares. There are also plenty of shops, from chic bou�ques to larger shopping malls.

We head to the MECC Maastricht for the highlight of our break, the spectacular André Rieu concert. The violin maestro will perform his most celebrated waltzes, along with other spellbinding classical music, Christmas carols plus a surprise or two. Sing and dance along in what promises to be a musical extravaganza to remember; made even more special in the se�ng of André’s hometown. A�er the show we rejoin the coach and return to the hotel for our last night’s stay.

A�er breakfast we check out of our hotel and head back to Calais for our return ferry home.

Day 1

ITINERARY

Ferry to Calais and on to our hotel on the outskirts of Paris, where we stay on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day 2 - Paris (with optional guided city tour £22pp)

We head into France’s capital, Paris, where we spend the day at leisure to discover its many iconic landmarks including the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. Wander through the quaint streets of the Latin Quarter or along the banks of the Seine, there is so much choice! There’s also the chance to join an optional guided city tour, taking in all the city’s most recognisable landmarks. Later, there’s time to enjoy an early dinner before the coach takes us back to our hotel.

Day 3 – KURIOS

This morning we venture back into Paris and make our way to Cirque du Soleil’s Big Top on the L’ile des Impressionistes (island of the Impressionists), made famous by the Impressionist painters who captured the bright blue skies, sun-dappled parks and beautiful

scenery of the island in the 19th-century. After the show we spend the rest of the day in this wonderful area, including time to enjoy an early dinner before the coach picks us up to return to the hotel.

Day 4

After checking out of our hotel, we enjoy an en-route visit to the beautiful city of Amiens. Admire the spectacular Gothic architecture that frames the unique shops and narrow streets, delve into the world of Jules Verne at his former home, or discover century-spanning art in the Musée De Picardie Later, we continue to Calais for our return ferry home.

Christmas Eve – Guided tour of Innsbruck & torch-lit walk

We travel to the elegant Tyrolean capital of Innsbruck, a beautiful Alpine city with breath-taking scenery and snow-capped mountains where we enjoy a guided tour. There is plenty to see around the city including the winding streets of the picturesque Old Town, the Imperial Palace and the famous Golden Roof, built in the early 15th century for Emperor Maximilian I.

On our return to the hotel in the afternoon, we enjoy Austrian Christmas cookies and mulled wine followed by a traditional Austrian Christmas dinner in the evening. After dinner, we take a magical torch-lit walk through Oberperfuss.

Christmas Day is a lovely day of leisure and celebration at our hotel, with a traditional turkey dinner included.

Boxing Day – Rattenberg & horse-drawn sleigh ride

Boxing Day sees us in Rattenberg, Austria’s smallest town. Built in the shadow of Rat Mountain, the town is known for its glass making and abundance of crystal glass shops. Later, we get into the spirit of Austrian life with a horse-drawn sleigh ride through the countryside.

27th December – Optional ‘Scenic Tyrol’ excursion (£15pp)

On today’s optional excursion we have a chance to discover the natural beauty of the Austrian Tyrol. From the sights of the dramatic mountains and the shores of the clear Lakes to the many little towns scattered throughout the landscape, there is plenty to see on this spectacular day out.

23rd December – Baden-Baden & Gengenbach

We make our way to the spa town of Baden-Baden. Set against the backdrop of the luscious and enchanting Black forest, reminiscent of the Brothers Grimm fairy tales, Baden-Baden is a magical and elegant town built on thermal springs which has made it an ideal spa getaway for centuries. Later, we travel to our second stop of the day, the pretty town of Gengenbach. Wander along the river or through the old town, which boasts romantic half-timbered houses, and charming winding streets.

Later we continue to our hotel in Oberharmersbach where we spend the next five nights.

Christmas Eve – Freiburg

We travel to the charming medieval town of Freiburg, a city full of beautiful, cobbled squares. Not to be missed is Münsterplatz, a square in the heart of the city, home to Freiburg’s famous food market and the Historisches Kaufhaus, or Merchant’s Hall. Towering above the square is the grand cathedral, the eleventh-century Freiburger Münster.

Christmas Day

Christmas Day is a lovely day of leisure and celebration at our hotel. We start the day with a cold buffet breakfast, and then have a traditional turkey dinner at lunchtime, with a delicious Black Forest Gâteaux. Later in the evening, we enjoy a 5-course candlelit dinner and live music.

Boxing Day – Optional excursion to Strasbourg (£16pp)

On Boxing Day we travel to France on an optional excursion to Strasbourg, known as the Capital of Christmas and home to France’s oldest Christmas

market. Here we can enjoy the welcoming atmosphere and explore the mesmerising blend of French and German styles of architecture on display, lit up with spectacular illuminations for the festive season, as well as visit the Musée alsacien, Palais Rohan, and the Cathedral of Our Lady of Strasbourg to learn more about the region’s history and traditions.

27th December – Scenic tour of the Black Forest (Schiltach, Rottweil & Triberg)

Today we tour the hauntingly beautiful Black Forest, home to centuries of German history. First, we travel to Schiltach in the very heart of the Black Forest. This lovely destination is full of half-timbered houses, straight out of a fairytale.

The town centre, or ‘Städtle’, offers a chance to see how this small town looked centuries in the past. Our tour continues with time to experience the colourful and picturesque town of Rottweil. Famous for its medieval centre, in appearance very little has changed since the 16th century. The last stop of the day is Triberg, which is famous for having the world’s largest cuckoo clock (which is the size of a two-storey building), the highest waterfall in Germany, and is the birthplace of the original Black Forest Cherry cake recipe!

28th December – Heidelberg

We leave Oberharmersbach and head to the beautiful town of Heidelberg. Built on the banks of the River Neckar, the city is surrounded by lush green hills and boasts a castle and Baroque-style Old Town full of grand and beautifully-preserved buildings. We continue to our overnight hotel in France where we enjoy a light evening meal.

Today we head to the distinctive city of Verona famous for being the setting of the ultimate romantic tragedy, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. But Verona has far more to offer than a fictional balcony. The city has a rich history and artistic culture, and many renowned Renaissance artists made this fair city their home. Take a stroll down the Via Mazzini, the elegant Venetian marble-paved street that leads to the heart of the town, Piazza Erbe, Verona’s popular and attractive square.

Lake Garda

Colourful boats bobbing on blue shimmering waters, dreamy villages, ancient castles, fragrant vineyards and olive groves – that’s Lake Garda in a pretty, little nutshell. Amsterdam & Festival of Light Cruise

Every festive season the canal-side city of Amsterdam is illuminated by fascinating light sculptures, projections and installations created by artists, designers and architects from all over the world for Amsterdam’s Light Festival. The beautiful buildings, historic cobbled streets and picturesque network of canals are transformed into a dazzling spectacle of colour, with each year taking on a new and exciting theme. During this weekend away we admire the unique display on a scenic canal cruise and have time to explore the Netherland’s vibrant capital.

ITINERARY

Day 1 – Journey to the Netherlands

We catch the ferry to Calais and continue on to the hotel, stopping en-route for an evening meal (not included).

Day 2 – Amsterdam including guided city tour & Festival of Light canal cruise

We visit Amsterdam, the city of canals, bridges, bicycles and cafés where we enjoy a guided city tour by coach to see some of the landmarks such as the Royal Palace and Dam Square. Later, we take to the water for a scenic canal cruise which takes in a selection of spectacular illuminated artworks from Amsterdam’s Light Festival. There is then time to find somewhere for dinner before we return to our hotel.

Day 3 – Volendam & Amsterdam

Our first stop is the fishing village of Volendam, with its harbour and traditional Dutch costumes often featured on postcards. Afterwards we return to Amsterdam to spend some time at leisure and find a restaurant for an early dinner before boarding the coach back to our hotel.

Day 4 – Journey home

We check out of our hotel and head back to Calais for our return ferry home.

Amsterdam, Venice of the North Even though Amsterdam started as a small fishing village, it developed into one of the world’s most important port cities during the Dutch Golden age.

Famous sights to see in Amsterdam include the Anne Frank House Museum where Anne wrote her diary in World War II, De Nieuwe Kerk, famous for celebrating treasures from other countries, the wonderful Madame Tussauds, The Heineken Experience and the Floating Flower Market – the most famous flower market in Holland. There’s also the opportunity to visit less known sites such as De Gooyer windmill, previously used for grinding grain for a brewery, and Begijnhof, a calm and quiet place built as a monastic community full of history. Oude Kirk is the oldest building in Amsterdam, located in a lively neighbourhood.

We then move on to Cologne Christmas Market to indulge in the special festive atmosphere, while enjoying roasted chestnuts and mulled wine and admiring the sparkle of Cologne’s beautiful lights and stunning cathedral. We have time for dinner at a restaurant of your choice before returning to the hotel (not included).

Day 3 – Aachen & Düsseldorf Christmas Markets

En route to Düsseldorf, we spend time in Aachen, a beautiful old city bordering Belgium and the Netherlands. This unique location is reflected in the impressive mixture of goods for sale at the Christmas market, including delicious French and Belgian foods as well as traditional German-made products. We then head to the Düsseldorf Christmas Markets, where we have time to enjoy the festivities with a scrumptious cup of glühwein in hand. We explore the Old Town quarters, adorned with rows of traditionally decorated huts and stalls offering a charming selection of unique handcrafted gifts. Later, there’s time for dinner at a restaurant of your choice before returning to the hotel (not included).

Day 4 – Journey home

Cologne

DESTINATION

Cologne is the fourth largest city in Germany, situated within the picturesque landscape of the Rhine River and is known for being a media, tourism and business hotspot with various attractions to be enjoyed on our coach breaks, from its Gothic architecture to the brilliant Lights Festival & Christmas Markets.

Cologne’s historical charms are also portrayed in its vast number of museums from the Ludwig Museum which includes one of the largest collections of art by the legend Picasso, to the Imhoff-Schokoladenmuseum of chocolate and the Fragrance Museum of Perfume and Artwork – a great choice to be enjoyed on our coach breaks.

Another brilliant attraction is the Cologne Lights, also known as the Kölner Lichter, which light up the sky in flames between the bridges of Cologne during the Rhine in Flames spectacle. You can also see Cologne through a different perspective by visiting its renowned Christmas Markets, with the majority of them being presented in front of the Dom Cathedral, offering a brilliant backdrop view of the Gothic masterpiece.

ITINERARY

Day 1 – Journey to France/Belgium via Ypres

We take the ferry to Calais before travelling to the lovely Belgian town of Ypres. The charming cobbled streets lined with pretty Flemish-style buildings belie the town’s past as the scene of some of the most intense battles of the First World War. Almost completely destroyed, the town was faithfully rebuilt including the striking medieval Cloth Hall. Here we have some free time to find a local restaurant for dinner before we continue to our hotel.

Day 2 – Ostend & Bruges Christmas Market

Today we spend a couple of hours in Belgium’s premier seaside resort of Ostend, before heading to the beautiful medieval city of Bruges, famous for its picturesque canals. Held in the city’s main market square, the Christmas Market is full of stalls selling a tempting array of hand-made Christmas decorations and gifts as well as tasty local produce and warming mulled wine. Enjoy dinner in Bruges before we return to the hotel.

Day 3 – Arras Christmas Market & Lille

Our first destination today is the charming town of Arras where the Christmas Market is held in the magnificent setting of the Grand Place. Against the soft silhouettes of the rounded Baroque townhouses, over 100 artisans sell traditional crafts and gifts from their wooden chalets, transforming the whole square into a magical winter wonderland. Late afternoon we journey to Lille, sure to be crowned with huge festive garlands. Sample the spice bread or enjoy other regional specialities from the festive food stalls for dinner before we rejoin the coach to head back to our hotel.

Day 4 – Journey home

This morning we check out of the hotel and head back to Calais for our return ferry home.

YOUR HOTEL

Novotel, Reims Tinqueux

Situated in Reims Tinqueux, the Novotel is conveniently located for our excursions to Paris and Épernay. Nestled in a calm, green setting right in the heart of the champagne district, the hotel is just a few minutes from the historical centre of Reims with some UNESCO listed sites. All the comfortable rooms are en suite and other facilities include a bar and restaurant.

ITINERARY

Day 1 – Journey to France

We catch the ferry to Calais and continue on to our hotel in Reims Tinqueux, where we stay on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day

2 – Paris including guided city tour

We journey to Paris and enjoy a guided city tour, taking in all the main sights, from the Arc de Triomphe to Notre-Dame and, of course, the Eiffel Tower. We then have free time to explore at our own pace. Wander through the quaint streets of the Latin Quarter or along the banks of the Seine spanned with ornate bridges. Enjoy an early dinner (not included) before the coach picks us up to return to the hotel.

Day 3 – Épernay champagne tasting & Reims

Today the coach takes us first to the town of Épernay, the self-titled capital du champagne in the heart of the vineyards. We visit a celebrated champagne house and enjoy tasting a tipple or two before we rejoin the coach and head to the city of Reims for some time at leisure. There’s plenty to see, including the Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Reims and Musée de la Reddition,

which was the site of Germany’s official surrender at the end of the Second World War. We’ll have a chance to enjoy dinner (not included) in a local restaurant before returning to the hotel.

Day 4 – Journey home

We check out of our hotel and head to Arras, a historic city, famous for the UNESCO-listed iconic Gothic tower the Belfry which overlooks the town square, the Place des Héros. We enjoy a few hours in Arras before continuing to Calais, for our return ferry home.

DESTINATION

The city is famous for its gourmet cuisine, impressive monuments and iconic landmarks, including the Gothic Notre-Dame Cathedral and the Louvre, one of the world’s greatest museums. Amazingly, their collection size is so immense it is impossible to see the full wealth of exhibits in just one visit!

Don’t forget to visit the Musée d’Orsay, which holds French art from the 19th century, including paintings, photography, and sculptures.

Paris & River Seine Cruise

The cosmopolitan capital of France needs little introduction, thanks to its reputation as one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in Europe. With iconic landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe, plus elegant boulevards and charming pavement cafés, Paris is always a delight to explore. On this French escape there’s plenty of time to seek out the city’s hidden gems, and we also include a cruise along the picturesque River Seine to tick off the sights from a different perspective – bon voyage!

Day 1

ITINERARY

Ferry to Calais and on to our hotel on the outskirts of Paris, where we stay on a bed and breakfast basis.

Day 2 - Paris (with optional guided city tour £22pp)

We head into France’s capital, Paris, where we spend the day at leisure to discover its many iconic landmarks including the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. Wander through the quaint streets of the Latin Quarter or along the lovely banks of the Seine, there is so much choice! There’s also the chance to join an optional guided city tour, taking in all the main sights. Later, there’s time to enjoy an early dinner before the coach takes us back to our hotel.

Day 3 – River Seine Cruise

This morning we venture back into Paris where we’re treated to a cruise along the famous River Seine, the perfect way to take in the many sights of Paris. We spend the afternoon at leisure in this wonderful city, including time to enjoy an early dinner before the coach picks us up again to return to the hotel.

Day 4

Today we stop off en-route in the beautiful city of Amiens. Admire the spectacular Gothic architecture here, browse the unique shops along the narrow streets, delve into the world of Jules Verne at his former home, discover century-spanning art in the Musée De Picardie and don’t miss the floating market gardens. We then continue to Calais for our return ferry home.

DESTINATION Paris

Prepare to be impressed by the historic Arc de Triomphe, and the beauty of the Château de Versailles, just outside the city centre. The beautiful Sacré Coeur is another of Paris’ must-see iconic monuments. Located in the artistic Montmartre district, the Basilica is perched on the highest point of Paris and offers amazing panoramic views over the rooftops of the city.

A coach trip to Paris wouldn’t be complete without indulging in the famous Parisian atmosphere at one of the traditional bistros and pavement cafés, or a visit to the famous Eiffel Tower, the symbol of Paris. The city is also renowned for its incredible shopping opportunities, from high street stores up to designer chic.

Rhine Valley Christmas Markets

Get ready for a truly festive adventure as we journey to some of the most magical German towns in the Rhine Valley. Celebrate the start of the Christmas season with a warming glühwein in hand, as we journey along the Rhine to see hundreds of decorated stalls, selling wonderful, handcrafted gifts and delicious food and drink. All set to the backdrop of colourful lights and twinkling stars, with the smell of cinnamon-roasted almonds in the air.

Day 1 – Journey to Germany

We catch the ferry to Calais and journey onwards to our hotel.

Day 2 – Boppard & Koblenz Christmas markets

Today we travel to Boppard, where we stop for a look around the town’s magical Christmas market. Boppard’s popular town centre comes alive in the Christmas season, a haven for wine lovers and Christmas market goers. After purchasing a gift or two, we head to Koblenz. Here we have time to explore the picturesque Old Town, and the Christmas market with over 130 stalls providing a variety of hand-made goods, decorations and traditional German festive food and drink to get you in the mood for the season.

Day 3 – Bacharach & Rüdesheim

Christmas markets

We journey from our base in Rüdesheim to the ‘world’s prettiest town,’ called Bacharach perched on the bank of

the River Rhine. Here we enjoy the town’s narrow streets and lovely houses. Later, we return to Rüdesheim, and have free time to explore the Christmas market, held in the historic Old Town. Try the hot wine or punch, sample the German delicacies and check out the local hand-crafted cuckoo clocks and toys. Experience the joy of Christmas on our last night in this magical setting.

Day 4

After breakfast we check out of our hotel and head back to Calais for our return ferry home.

Three Countries Christmas Markets

Savour the festive traditions of the Continent as we visit the Netherlands and Germany and enjoy a trip to the Three-Country Point in Vaalserberg. The unique range of Christmas markets on our short break feature stands bursting with traditional and contemporary crafts and local specialities. There’s even a secret treasure trove of Christmas stalls collected in subterranean Valkenburg – a unique cave of wonders that’s not to be missed.

Day 2 – Maastricht & Valkenburg

Christmas Markets

Today we travel to the Maastricht Christmas Market which provides plenty of Christmas cheer with its carousel, Ferris wheel and numerous stalls featuring a variety of gifts and local treats. We then move on to sample the Christmas Market in Valkenburg, situated in this enchanting Dutch town’s ancient network of tunnels and caves and considered the largest and oldest underground Christmas market in Europe. We have time to enjoy dinner at a restaurant of our choice (not included) in the town before returning to the hotel.

Day 3 – Vaalserberg & Cologne

Christmas Markets

En-route to Cologne, we make a stop at Vaalserberg, the highest point in mainland Netherlands. Here we find the famous Three-Country Point, where Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium meet. The rest of the day is spent in Cologne, which has no fewer than six separate

Christmas markets around the city centre, with the landmark cathedral providing an impressive backdrop to the main market. Stalls offer a vast range of traditional goodies including handcrafted toys, keepsakes and ceramics. We have time to find a local restaurant for dinner (not included) before our coach takes us back to the hotel.

Day 4 – Journey home

We check out of our hotel and head back to Calais for our return ferry home.

DESTINATION

Lying close to the border of Belgium and known as the birthplace of the Euro, the city of Maastricht is the capital of Holland’s southernmost region, Limburg. It is one of the country’s oldest cities, reflected in the historic centre of ancient churches, city walls, monumental merchant houses and charming squares. Maastricht is a delight to explore all year round, but it comes alive during the festive period.
