Travel onwards to our overnight hotel in northern Italy, with dinner included. Christmas Eve We continue on to our hotel in Montecatini Terme, our base for the next five nights, where we enjoy a welcome drink and dinner. Christmas Day Christmas Day is one of leisure and celebration at our hotel, with a festive lunch and dinner. Boxing Day – Florence We head to Florence by train, undoubtedly one of Italy’s most charming cities. Highlights here include the Palazzo Vecchio, Giotti’s Bell Tower and the Ponte Vecchio, Florence’s lovely ‘Old Bridge’, which is still occupied by gold and silversmiths today. Later we enjoy dinner together back at the hotel.
San Gimignano 27th December – Pisa & Lucca Today we venture first to Pisa, where we can take in iconic sights such as the Leaning Tower and the stunning cathedral. We continue on to Lucca, a lovely old city surrounded by distinctive pink-brown ramparts. Here we have time to explore its cobbled streets and handsome piazzas or perhaps walk along the pedestrian promenade atop the city walls. We then return to the hotel to enjoy dinner together. 28th December – San Gimignano We spend a few hours in the exquisite medieval walled town of San Gimignano, perched on a hill surrounded by olive groves and vineyards that produce the local Chianti wines. The overriding characteristic of San Gimignano is its spectacular towers that rise above the town. Later we enjoy a Tuscan candlelit dinner with live music at our hotel. 29th December – Siena We check out of our hotel and head south, stopping en-route in Siena, a beautifully-preserved hilltop city surrounded by olive groves and vineyards. Later, we arrive at our hotel close to Rome in time for dinner and where we stay for the next four nights. 30th December – Rome guided city tour
Pisa
A day in Rome awaits us, where we enjoy a guided city tour. Highlights of Italy’s capital city include the iconic Colosseum, the largest amphitheatre ever built in the Roman Empire, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain and Vatican City, an independent state within Rome and seat of the Catholic Church. We then return to the hotel for dinner together.
Rome New Year’s Eve – Rome We head back into Rome for free time to explore at leisure. Later, we return to the hotel where we enjoy a gala dinner and see in the New Year. New Year’s Day After our fantastic New Year’s celebrations, we have time to relax at our hotel. We enjoy dinner together in the evening. 2nd January – Verona area We check out of our hotel and head to our overnight hotel in northern Italy, with dinner included. 3rd January Travel to our overnight hotel in France, with a light evening meal included. 4th January Continue on to Calais for our return ferry home.
