Day 2 A festive treat awaits us today as we head to Wansford station. Here, we’re greeted by a brass band and carol singers who perform a medley of Christmas carol favourites on the platform. Next, we board our train with the historic locomotive 92. Squadron, resplendent in British Railways malachite green, for a picturesque, steam hauled round trip journey on the Nene Valley Railway to Peterborough. During our 75 minute trip, we enjoy mulled wine and mince pies while being entertained by carol singers as well as a visit from Santa himself, bearing gifts for all, getting us all into the festive spirit! Later, we rejoin the coach for our journey home.

Christmas Time at Downton Abbey & Bath 2 Days from £149

Departs 13 December Enjoy a truly unique opportunity to visit Highclere Castle, filming location of the much-loved Downton Abbey TV series and feature film, which opens its doors exclusively for our customers on Monday 14th December. Home to the Carnarvon family since 1679, the current castle is one of England’s most beautiful Victorian castles and will be decked out for the yuletide season with an enormous tree in the Salon and enchanting garlands adorning the magnificent staircase. Take a peek behind the scenes of the ‘real Downton Abbey’ and walk in the footsteps of your favourite characters at this magical time of year.

Day 1 From a morning pickup in your local area we travel by coach to the beautiful city of Bath. The city has remained faithful to its Regency roots, with an abundance of elegant terraces, circuses and squares in a picturesque valley setting. The magnificent Royal Crescent is a must-see and the central square is home not only to Bath Abbey, but also the ancient Roman Baths. The city has an excellent selection of shops; especially along the Pulteney Bridge, one of only four bridges in the world to feature shops across its full span on both sides. We have time to enjoy dinner at leisure in the city before continuing on to our hotel for our overnight stay. Day 2 After breakfast, we check out and head to the world-famous Highclere Castle, filming location for the much-loved Downton Abbey television series and film. Many of the rooms will be familiar to viewers of the series – both the Drawing Room and Dining Room forming the backdrop to the dryly withering put-downs delivered by Maggie Smith, as the Dowager Countess to some poor unfortunate relation. The Egyptian Exhibition in the cellars of the castle explores the achievements of the 5th Earl of Carnarvon who discovered the tomb of Tutankhamun in 1922 while outside are distinctive gardens and spectacular parkland designed by ‘Capability’ Brown. The castle also has a gift shop and tea room. We depart for home in the afternoon.
