Its 16th-century houses, romantic alleyways and sleepy shops and cafés make Hallstatt feel as though it’s from another era! After some time here we then continue on to the charming Bad Aussee and Schladming in the Northwest of Styria to complete our tour of Austria’s stunning Lake District.

Day 7 – Salzburg

A day in the enchanting city of Salzburg is next, lying at the northern boundary of the Alps. We have time at leisure to discover some of the sights such as the beautifully preserved Old Town overlooked by the medieval Hohensalzburg Castle, offering panoramic views over the city. Villas & Gardens on the French Riviera

The French Riviera is one of the world’s most famous coastlines, with beautifully vivid colours and a mild climate. As well as its rich artistic legacy, we also discover wonderful gardens in stunning locations, beautiful villas and the famous Principality of Monaco.

ITINERARY

Day 1

We fly to Nice and transfer to our hotel in the heart of the city.

Day 2 – Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild

The Villa Ephrussi de Rothschild is a chic early 20th-century villa built by Béatrice Ephrussi de Rothschild on the St-Jean-Cap-Ferrat peninsula. This morning we enjoy a guided tour of the villa, evocative of an Italian palazzo and home to nine separately themed gardens overlooking the Mediterranean.

The rest of the day is left free to explore Nice, an opportunity perhaps to wander along the Promenade des Anglais or visit Castle Hill, where the ruins of the former Château de Nice and other landmarks of historical importance can be found. This evening we enjoy dinner together in a local restaurant.

Day 3 – Prince’s Palace of Monaco & Exotic Garden of Monaco

We make our way to the tiny principality of Monaco, ruled by the Grimaldis since 1346. Its wealth came from the famous Casino, founded by Charles III in 1848. We visit the State Apartments of the Prince’s Palace of Monaco, the official residence of the Sovereign Prince of Monaco. Built at the end of the 12th century as a Genoese fortress, the palace was captured by the Grimaldi dynasty in 1297 and has remained in the family ever since. Afterwards we head to the Exotic Garden of Monaco, an outstanding open-air botanical garden that opened to the public in 1933.

With its stunning location along the edge of a cliff overlooking the bay of Monaco, it contains more than 1,000 species of cacti and succulents that have adapted to dry climates in various ways.

Day 4 – Day at leisure in Nice

Day 5 – Cagnes-sur-Mer, Grimaldi Castle Museum & Renoir Museum

We spend the day in the picturesque seaside resort of Cagnes-sur-Mer, perfectly nestled between Nice and Cannes. The resort offers a long pebble beach and a charming fishing port, all overlooked by the

medieval quarter of Haut-de-Cagnes with its narrow lanes full of artists’ studios and galleries and stunning views of the Mediterranean.

Perched on a hilltop in the heart of Haut-de-Cagnes is the Grimaldi Castle Museum, a 14th-century stronghold that was subsequently transformed into a palatial home. One of its most striking features is the painted ceiling in the great hall which depicts the Fall of Phaëton. Today, it features several collections of contemporary and modern art.

Over the years, many famous artists have made Cagnes-sur-Mer their home and our last visit of the day is to the exquisite Renoir Museum, the family home and studio of Impressionist painter Auguste Renoir. It is a wonderfully evocative museum with many personal photographs and paintings, with the beautiful olive and citrus groves in the garden as much an attraction as the museum itself.

Day 6 – Cannes & Antibes

We head first to Cannes, where we spend a few hours at leisure. Enjoy the waterfront avenue, Promenade de la Croisette, lined with palm trees, picturesque beaches, restaurants, cafés and upmarket boutiques and visit Le Suquet, Cannes’ old quarter, with its medieval buildings, winding, cobbled streets and panoramic views of Cannes. From here we continue to the picturesque resort of Antibes where we have free time to explore. The historic old town within the ancient ramparts has retained much of its original character with quaint cobbled streets lined with pretty houses, boutiques and cafés. Port Vauban, the largest marina in Europe, is home to huge superyachts while the magnificent Fort Carré stands watch on the far side. This evening, we enjoy a farewell dinner together in a local restaurant.

Day 7

We check out of our hotel and transfer to Nice airport for our flight home.

Please note: on this tour a reasonable amount of walking is required as vehicular access is not always possible close to the sites of our visits. Often steep inclines and steps lead the way to certain properties. Therefore, we do not consider this tour suitable for persons of reduced mobility or those unable to walk unaided.

Day 2 – Nîmes

After breakfast, we start our journey eastwards, stopping en-route in Nîmes. The city has the finest collection of Roman remains in France including the best preserved Roman temple, and the mighty Arena, one of three large Roman arenas in the south of France. Day 3 – Orange

We head into Orange where we discover its many treasures on a guided walking tour. After our tour, the rest of the day is free to explore at leisure. Orange is known for its wines, the Côtes-du-Rhône, and there are plenty of shops and restaurants to choose from.

Day 4 – Avignon

Our destination today is Avignon where we start with a guided tour by petit train. This beautiful historical city is dominated by its impressive Papal Palace, once the seat of the Catholic Popes in the Middle Ages and one of the largest medieval Gothic buildings in Europe. This, along with its cathedral and famous bridge, has made the city a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are also beautifully-preserved ramparts, old alleyways, mansion-lined streets and lively squares to discover.

After our tour, the rest of the day is spent at leisure to explore the city at our own pace. Back at the hotel this evening, we enjoy dinner together.

Day 5 – The Camargue & Arles

This morning we enjoy a scenic drive through the Camargue, Europe’s largest river delta, a hauntingly-beautiful and unique landscape of salt lagoons, reedy marshes and rice paddies. The area is also home to more than 400 species of birds including pink flamingos, and herds of wild, white Camargue horses.

Next stop is Arles, lying on the banks of the River Rhône, full of shady squares, narrow golden-hued streets and sun-drenched terracotta-tiled rooftops.

Known as the city of art and history, Arles was the inspiration for many of Van Gogh’s paintings and is famous for its ancient and Romanesque remains, including the exceptional Roman amphitheatre.

Day 6 – Aix-en-Provence & Lourmarin

Often referred to as the city of a thousand fountains, Aix-en-Provence also offers elegant boulevards lined with beautiful buildings and a pedestrianised Old Town with winding streets, bustling squares, craft shops and boutiques. There are also numerous colourful daily markets dotted around the town.

We continue to Lourmarin with its narrow cobbled streets and buildings of golden stone. Listed as one of “The Most Beautiful Villages in France”, the village nestles amongst vineyards, olive groves and almond trees.

This evening, we dine together at the hotel.

Day 7 – Carcassonne

Leaving Orange, we make our way back to Toulouse, stopping en-route in the beautiful walled city of Carcassonne. Set high on a hill, this medieval citadel has a fairytale collection of drawbridges, towers and atmospheric cobbled streets. There’s also time to find a restaurant of our choice for dinner.

The Historical Paradors of Classical Spain

This magical break features a trio of Spain’s quaintest paradors; unique hotels located in converted historic buildings. Our itinerary includes Ávila, Segovia and Madrid as we explore stunning walled cities laden with turrets to hilltop fortresses and castles.

ITINERARY

Day 1

We fly to Madrid and transfer to our parador in Alcalá de Henares where we stay overnight with dinner included.

Day 2 – Alcalá de Henares & Segovia

Founded by the Romans, Alcalá de Henares is a sun-drenched maze of historical sandstone buildings. With picturesque pavement cafés, bell-towered churches and convents at every turn, it’s no wonder the city boasts UNESCO World Heritage Site status. During our guided city tour we admire the top sites, including the elaborate Renaissance buildings and the university; founded in 1499, it became one of the most important academic institutions in Europe. We also take a stroll along Calle Mayor, the longest colonnaded street in Spain. Don’t forget to try the traditional costrada pastries, baked by the local nuns.

For our next visit we head north to Segovia, where we take a guided tour to find out how this UNESCO World Heritage city is so utterly steeped in legend. Rumoured to have been founded by Hercules himself, the city boasts the best-preserved Roman aqueduct in the world, with its 166 arches spanning over ten miles through the valley’s rolling landscape. It’s also home to the fairytale Alcázar fortress, which inspired Walt Disney’s Sleeping Beauty castle.

We check in to the Parador de La Granja on the outskirts of Segovia, where we stay for the next two nights. We then enjoy dinner together in a local restaurant.

Day 3 – Ávila

In keeping with our magical kingdom theme, we make our way to Ávila, where we enjoy a guided walking tour. Clasped in the embrace of the perfectly preserved medieval walls which offer no less than 88 watchtowers and more than 2,500 turrets, the old city is crammed with Renaissance churches and has attracted pilgrims to the site of Teresa of Ávila, the patron saint of the sick, for centuries. The cathedral itself offers a patchwork of Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance interior decoration.

Day 4 – Madrid & Chinchón

Checking out of the hotel we make our way to the Parador de Chinchón, where we stay for the next three nights. En route, we spend the day in Madrid and enjoy a guided tour on foot and by coach to explore the Spanish capital, its cityscape awash with domes, spires and frilly Belle Époque architecture. We take in an array of impressive landmarks including the Plaza Mayor lined with cafés, shops and restaurants, the Royal Palace and the glorious gardens of the Retiro Park. And, no city does fine art quite like Madrid; from Picasso and Dalí to Miró, its world-class galleries have got the lot!

Day 5 – Royal Palace of Aranjuez

Horseshoed at the confluence of the Tagus and Jarama rivers, the Royal Palace of Aranjuez and its stunning gardens have served as royal residence to Spain’s monarchy since the late 1800s. A trio of kings (Philip II, Ferdinand VI, and Charles II) were integral to its construction and the opulently decorated rooms are filled with portraits and other treasures exploring Spain’s royal history. Highlights include the Throne Room of Elizabeth II, the Prince’s Gardens, the Parterre and the Island. There is even an onsite museum featuring a collection of Spain’s royal pleasure barges. After our visit, we enjoy lunch together in Aranjuez. We return to Chinchón where the afternoon is free to explore at leisure. Take a stroll around the galleries or enjoy a sangria in the town’s lovely courtyards.

Day 6 – Toledo

For our last excursion, we head to Toledo. Atmospheric, cobbled lanes scurry down to serene river paths, which gaze out at the pretty San Martin Bridge arching over the River Tagus. During our guided walking tour we pass streets peppered with a contrasting mix of mosques, synagogues and churches and discover the Gothic cathedral, packed with famous works of art by El Greco. Don’t leave without stocking up on delicious handmade marzipan or capturing a snap of the imposing fortress, protectively watching over the city. This evening, we enjoy a farewell dinner together in a local restaurant.

With scenic landscapes and fascinating heritage to discover, this will be the experience of a lifetime.

ITINERARY

Day 1

We fly to Bilbao and transfer to our hotel in the city.

Day 2 – Bilbao & Guggenheim Museum

We start the day with a guided city tour of Bilbao. Situated on the banks of the River Nervion, this Basque port city is a wonderful mix of old and new with a quaint Old Town and striking 21st-century architectural buildings.

The major landmark of the city is the Guggenheim Museum. Opened in 1997, architect Frank Gehry’s spectacular twisting titanium-clad art museum has an outstanding collection of modern art with both permanent and temporary exhibitions which we have time to discover.

Tonight we enjoy dinner together in a local restaurant.

Day 3 – La Rioja, Santo Domingo de la Calzada & Burgos

We check out of our hotel in Bilbao and head to La Rioja, a region renowned for its wine. The rolling hillsides are perfect for growing the grapes for this eponymous wine and we enjoy a visit to a local wine cellar for a tasting of this famous red wine.

We continue to Santo Domingo de la Calzada, one of the Rioja towns along the Santiago bound pilgrimage route. The town boasts a partially walled old quarter, a labyrinth of medieval streets and beautiful Romanesque cathedral. There’s also the option to join a leisurely three-mile walk along the Camino de Santiago.

Afterwards we travel to our hotel in Burgos, our base for the next two nights. Tonight we enjoy dinner together at the hotel.

Day 4 – Burgos

This morning we enjoy a guided tour of Burgos. The city is on the main pilgrimage route and is steeped in history. The attractive centre has narrow streets lined with painted buildings and open squares while the main feature is the extraordinary Gothic cathedral – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Just outside the city stands the monastery of Miraflores and we have the option to take a leisurely walk along the River Arlanzón to this 15th-century Carthusian monastery (approximately two miles).

Day 5 – León

Leaving Burgos, we travel to León, originally settled by the Romans and another important staging post along the Camino de Santiago. Some of the city’s most prominent historical buildings are the Gothic cathedral with its beautiful stained glass, the Basilica of San Isidoro built into the old city walls, the Monastery of San Marcos, and the Casa Botines – a Modernist creation of the architect Antoni Gaudí. We enjoy a guided tour of the city including entrance to the storied cathedral, followed by time at leisure or the option to join a two mile walk along part of the pilgrimage route.

Later we check in to our hotel in León where we stay overnight with dinner included.

Day 6 – Astorga, Bishop’s Palace, Castrillo, Cruz de Fierro, Molinaseca & Ponferrada

We check out of our hotel and head first to the historic city of Astorga, another key point of the Camino de Santiago. Here we visit the fairytale Bishop’s Palace, a modernist building designed by Antoni Gaudí which houses a museum dedicated to the pilgrimage to Santiago.

After free time for lunch, we continue to the charming village of Castrillo, where the houses and cobbled streets are built with the same russet-coloured stone. From here our coach climbs up to the Cruz de Fierro, the highest point on the Camino de Santiago and a symbolic place where pilgrims traditionally leave a rock. From here there is the option to walk along the pilgrimage route for approximately two miles.

Our first stop today is beautiful O Cebreiro. This rustic mountain village is home to a series of pallozas, traditional round stone houses with thatched roofs, and a pre-Romanesque church, the oldest remaining fully intact church on the pilgrimage route.

We then head to the riverside town of Portomarín where there’s free time for lunch before making our way towards Santiago de Compostela. We stop at the Monte de Gozo (Hill of Joy), the last stage of the pilgrimage route, from where we get our first glimpse of the cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. There’s the option to walk into Santiago from here (around 2 ½ miles), finish the walk in the city’s square, or rejoin the coach to reach the city.

Later we check in to our hotel where we stay for two nights, before enjoying dinner together in a local restaurant.

Day 8 – Santiago de Compostela

The Galician capital of Santiago de Compostela is the final destination on the epic Camino de Santiago pilgrimage trail and we start the day with a guided walking tour of this fascinating city. The historic centre is a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site with arcaded streets, Baroque squares and magnificent stone architecture, of which the famous cathedral is the jewel in the crown. The rest of the day is at leisure in the city.

Day 9 – Santillana del Mar & Santander

Leaving Santiago we head towards Santander, stopping en-route in the beautiful medieval town of Santillana del Mar. We have time to wander the picturesque, cobbled streets lined with delightful stone buildings or browse the craft shops and galleries. The town also has a lovely medieval church with a walled cloister.

We continue to the Cantabrian capital of Santander. Some of the highlights of this beachside city include the historic Old Town with its narrow lanes and elegant cathedral and the Magdalena Palace, which was used as the summer getaway of Spanish royalty. There are also plenty of fine beaches lining the shorefront. Later, we check in to our overnight hotel in the city and dine together in a local restaurant.

Jewels of Italy

Ciao bella! This 8-day escape is a true love letter to Italy. From Venice, a Casanova of a city with steal-your-missus good looks and star-crossed Verona to Rome’s head-in-the-clouds architecture and Florence’s breath-taking bridges, it’s hard not to fall in love with the romance of this country. P.S. whoever said ‘the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach’ must surely have been sat back in a piazza, menu in hand. Ready for a daily dose of tempting gelato and delicious, poetry-on-a-plate cuisine?

ITINERARY

Day 1

We fly to Rome and transfer to our hotel where we stay on a bed and breakfast basis for two nights.

Day 2 – Rome

A day in Rome awaits us, where we start with a guided city tour. Highlights of Italy’s capital city include the iconic Colosseum, the largest amphitheatre ever built in the Roman Empire, the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain and Vatican City, an independent state within Rome and seat of the Catholic Church. The rest of the day is free to explore the city at leisure and choose a restaurant for an early dinner (not included) before we return to our hotel.

Day 3 – San Gimignano

This morning we check out of our hotel and head towards Montecatini, stopping en route in the picturesque Tuscan town of San Gimignano. Cameras at the ready for the stunning medieval city walls and 14 sky-scraping towers which punctuate the hilltop setting and can be seen for miles. Later we check in to our hotel where we stay for two nights. Tonight, we enjoy dinner together at the hotel.

Day 4 – Florence

We head by train to Florence, where we enjoy a guided walking tour. Undoubtedly one of Italy’s most charming cities, don’t miss the Palazzo Vecchio, Giotti’s Bell Tower and the Ponte Vecchio, Florence’s lovely ‘Old Bridge’, which is still occupied by gold and silversmiths today.

Day 5 – Verona

We leave Montecatini and head to Shakespeare-famous Verona. This riverside heartthrob is a wonderful place to explore, complete with a beautifully preserved amphitheatre, pockets of pretty streets and, of course, Juliet’s House, where you can gaze up at her balcony and leaf through the love notes that surround the bronze statue of the young lover.

We then make our way to Venice Mestre and check in to our hotel, our base for the next two nights. This evening we enjoy dinner together at the hotel.

Day 6 – Venice

We explore Venice with a guided walking tour. This city is a floating work of art replete with locals lounging back in sunny piazzas with a spritz in hand. Boasting wonderful attractions like St Mark’s Square, the Bridge of Sighs and of course the gondolas that ply their trade up and down the canals. The rest of the day is left free to explore at leisure and choose a restaurant for dinner (not included).

Day 7 – Day at leisure

We head back to our first hotel in the outskirts of Rome and have the rest of the day to spend as we please before we enjoy a farewell dinner together at the hotel.

Day 8

We check out of our hotel and transfer to Rome airport for our return flight home.

Discover Tuscan Villas

Tuscany is one of the most beautiful regions of Italy, boasting stunning, vineyard-clad countryside, a lovely coastline, a fascinating history and impressive architecture. We discover some of the most charming villas in the area and visit some iconic Tuscan cities on this break.

ITINERARY

Day 1

We fly to Pisa and transfer to the Grand Hotel Panoramic in Montecatini Terme.

Day 2 – Villa Reale di Marlia, Villa Grabau & Colleverde Vineyard

This morning takes us to Villa Reale di Marlia situated at the foot of the Pizzorne hills. Once home to Napoleon’s sister, the villa’s 16-hectare estate has a timeless elegance. We continue on to Villa Grabau, a beautiful private house furnished with period pieces and paintings. The villa is surrounded by nine hectares of botanical park, where beautiful ancient lemon trees can be found.

In the afternoon we head to the Colleverde Vineyard where we discover the art of wine and olive oil making. Our tour here also includes a guided tasting of the ‘organic’ olive oil and some classic Tuscan varieties of vino.

Day 3 – Villa La Petraia & Florence

The day begins at Villa La Petraia, one of the most attractive Medici villas. Purchased by the Medici family in the 16th century, the villa’s courtyard is decorated with some fabulous frescoes.

This afternoon takes us to Florence, one of Italy’s most charming cities. Just some of the highlights include the Palazzo Vecchio, Giotti’s Bell Tower and the Ponte Vecchio, Florence’s lovely ‘Old Bridge’, which is still occupied by gold and silversmiths today.

Day 4 – Villa Torrigiani, Villa Mansi, Garzoni Gardens, Pinocchio Park & Casa delle Farfalle Gardens

Villa Torrigiani is a beautiful building located in a romantic, Baroque garden and this is our first visit of the day. Inside the villa we find 17th-century frescoes and original 18th-century furniture.

Our next stop is Villa Mansi. Highlights here include the frescoes of the central hall by Stefano Tofanelli, a Neoclassical painter admired by Elisa Baciocchi, Princess of Lucca and sister of Napoleon Bonaparte, and the gardens which are ideal for a relaxing walk.

We then visit the Garzoni Gardens; some of the most stunning gardens in Italy. Set against the striking backdrop of Villa Garzoni, the grounds

beautifully unite Renaissance geometrics with the Baroque style. We have the chance to admire the lovely terraces and fountains here.

Afterwards we pay a visit to Pinocchio Park, where the author Carlo Collodi penned his famous tale, The Adventures of Pinocchio in 1883. Then, to end our day, we head to the nearby Casa delle Farfalle Gardens, packed with tinkling waterfalls, a colourful butterfly house and wonderful views of Tuscany.

Day 5 – Lucca, Palazzo Pfanner & Lucca Cathedral

We spend the day in the city of Lucca, brimming with history and famous for its intact Renaissance walls enclosing a cobbled centre in classic Roman grid-iron fashion.

We visit Palazzo Pfanner, a beautiful 17th-century palace still owned by the Pfanner family. Explore the impressive grounds and admire the frescoed main reception room, once home to Felix Pfanner.

Originally from Austria, Felix became the first beer manufacturer in Lucca, brewing it in the mansion’s cellars from 1846 until 1929.

Afterwards, we visit Lucca Cathedral. Located in a secluded part of the old city centre, the cathedral was consecrated by Pope Alexander II in 1070. The exterior of the building, with its striking bell tower, was later added to give it the elaborate look that we can see today.

Day 6 – Palazzo Mediceo di Seravezza & Viareggio

Today begins with a guided tour at the Palazzo Mediceo di Seravezza. Built in the 16th century on the request of Cosimo I of Medici, the palace now houses a public library and the Museum of Versilian Work and Popular Culture.

Afterwards we have some free time in Viareggio, a seaside city known for its sandy beaches. The long road running parallel to the beach and also provides plenty of shopping opportunities and eateries too.

Treasures of

Of all our European tours, this is the shiniest. For the magpies among us, our Berlin city break is a veritable nest of glittering treasures. Famed for its opulent palaces that date back to the Kingdom of Prussia, we discover a gold mine of lavish Baroque and Rococo architecture, richly decorated Stucco interiors and exquisitely manicured parks. Signature sights include the stunning Sanssouci Palace and Cecilienhof, where the Potsdam Conference took place. There is also time to soak up the vibrant culture of Germany’s fascinating capital city, which has experienced so much change in recent years.

ITINERARY

Day 1

We fly to Berlin and transfer to our hotel in the heart of the city.

Day 2 – Berlin

This morning we get to know Berlin. It may be a rather big city but, luckily for us, all the best areas are lovely and compact. Once divided, now reunited, it really is full of contrasts with a variety of historical and modern attractions. We enjoy a guided walking tour which covers some of the most important sights including the Brandenburg Gate, a former symbol of the divided city.

After our tour, the rest of the day is left free to discover more of Berlin at leisure and, living up to the charms of its ‘live and let live’ motto, it’s a wonderfully relaxed place to explore. Later, we enjoy dinner together back at the hotel.

Day 3 – Schönhausen Palace & River Cruise Schönhausen Palace provided the backdrop for many important political and historical moments. Originally a manor house was built on the site in the 1660s before King Friedrich II gifted it to his wife, who used it as a summer residence and adored the opulent rooms, Stucco ceilings and colourful floral carpets, which we admire during our visit. Later, Wilhelm Pieck used the residence as his official seat during his time as president of the German Democratic Republic after the partition of Germany. The presidential garden is a reminder of this time.

Later, we enjoy a river cruise through the centre of the city, taking in a selection of iconic sights from a new perspective. Cameras at the ready for the fascinating cityscape, including the silhouette of the stunning domed Berlin Cathedral on Museum Island, as we meander along the River Spree.

Day 4 – Berlin Cathedral & Charlottenburg Palace

After spotting the famous cathedral from our river cruise, today we get up close with an audio guided tour. The majestic Italian Renaissance-style structure is flanked by four Baroque towers and envelopes equally lavish interiors, from a marble and onyx altar to elaborate mosaics. It served as the court church for the Hohenzollern dynasty, the monarchy of Prussia and later the German Emperors.

Our next stop is Charlottenburg Palace. Built at the end of the 17th century, it is one of Berlin’s key reminders of the splendour of the Hohenzollern clan, who ruled until 1918. Packed with treasures from the grand Rococo ballroom and collections of precious porcelain to the silver vault; glittering with the remaining pieces of the Prussian crown jewels, there is so much to discover in this former royal residence. The leafy palace park is also well worth a wander after we see the first-ever bathroom in a Baroque palace!

Day 5 – Sanssouci Palace & Cecilienhof

We visit Sanssouci Palace where we enjoy an audio guided tour. Sans soucI, which means ‘without a care’, was the much-loved summer retreat of the Prussian King; Friedrich the Great. The Rococo palace sits pretty above the vineyard-festooned terraces, and inside the intimate suites still boast their original decorations. Outside, the sprawling grounds are as impressive as ever, with the Chinese House and Orangery proving to be the most relaxing of hideaways. The king’s grave is on the highest terrace on the hill, buried next to his beloved greyhounds.

Afterwards, we head to Cecilienhof, an English-style mock Tudor curiosity, which seems in stark contrast to the luxurious palaces we have visited so far. Though humble from the outside, this was actually the location where world history was made when the Allied powers met here after the Second World War to discuss the occupation of Germany. Originally built in 1913 by Kaiser Wilhelm II, it was the last palace constructed by the Hohenzollern clan before it went on to serve as the location for the Potsdam Conference, attended by Josef Stalin, Harry Truman and Winston Churchill in 1945.

Day 6 – Schloss Britz & Botanic Garden

Formally an 18th-century manor house, Schloss Britz was once home to Prussian ministers and high-ranking court officials. It attracted tourists early on due to its library and picture gallery that sit behind a lovely neo-Renaissance façade. These days it houses an exhibition all about the way in which people lived during Germany’s late 19th-century industrialisation.

This afternoon takes us to Berlin’s Botanic Garden, an enchanting 43 hectares of flowers rippling in the breeze. From medicinal plants and roses to an Italian garden and an art nouveau Tropical Greenhouse packed with giant water lilies and a bamboo forest, this floral nirvana boasts a collection of 20,000 plant species. A truly colourful way to end our final excursion!

This evening we enjoy a farewell dinner together at the hotel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I have to pay a single supplement?

It is standard practice in the hotel trade to charge for single occupancy of a room as the cost of providing heating, lighting and cleaning etc, is the same regardless of the number of people occupying it.

Will my pickup point change?

All available pickup points are shown for each tour. Please note however, that pickup points are dependent on Just Go! Holidays receiving minimum bookings from those locations. On occasions it may be necessary to move your requested pickup point after booking to ensure that your holiday can still operate. You will be notified of any change to your pickup with your final confirmation.

What time will my pickup be?

Pickups will be early morning or on occasion late the previous night – we provide an estimated time in this brochure by pickup town, please see page 44-45. The exact pickup time from your town will be advised two weeks before you travel. Return times will be late evening, as we expect to depart Stop 24 Services near Folkestone between 7pm-8pm.

Who is responsible for my luggage during my journey?

It is your responsibility to ensure your suitcase is on board the coach. Please make sure you see the driver place your luggage into the coach and, on the way home, carefully check you collect the correct luggage from the driver at your drop off point. We cannot accept responsibility for damaged or misplaced luggage or any personal items and, whilst we will assist you with the recovery of any lost suitcase, this will be upon receipt of the courier costs.

How much luggage can I take with me?

For holidays by coach, your luggage must be restricted to one medium-sized suitcase weighing no more than 18 kilograms (40 pounds); we cannot carry any additional luggage items. Also, we cannot accept responsibility at any time for your own personal hand luggage. For any holidays by air, the luggage allowance will vary between airlines and will be advised at the time of booking.

I have mobility issues – can I bring a walking aid?

You must advise us if anyone in your party has mobility issues – the minimum requirements are that you are able to climb the steps onto a coach unaided. Please read the tour itinerary carefully to make sure it is appropriate for your mobility level. Due to space limitations we can only accommodate a maximum of two walking aids on to each coach, either wheelchairs or walking frames so long as they are collapsible, therefore you must pre-book a space when you book your holiday and confirmation of this will be on our correspondence to you. Unfortunately we have to reserve the right not to carry any walking aids that are not pre-booked. We regret we cannot accept mobility scooters or motorised wheelchairs.

What do I do if I have special dietary needs?

Passengers are requested to inform us of any food allergies/requests at the time of booking and we will attempt to accommodate them, however special arrangements cannot be guaranteed. Passengers who are coeliac or follow a gluten-free diet are advised to contact the hotel before arrival to check if the diet is catered for. Some customers take their own bread for breakfasts.

Customers with severe food allergies or dietary requirements are advised to make appropriate arrangements with the hotel prior to commencing their tour and speak to the hotel staff on arrival.

What type of food can I expect in Europe?

On our European holidays meals are included as indicated on each tour page. These may be waiter service or buffet style and will be a set choice group menu often consisting of local traditional dishes. Don’t expect lots of vegetables in Spain or lots of potatoes in Italy. Do expect pasta most days in Italy and pork in Austria. In brief, we offer you the opportunity to embrace local food traditions served the local way and not necessarily the British way. Breakfast will be continental with occasional hot options added in certain hotels.

Why do I need insurance?

At Just Go! Holidays we are committed to ensuring you are taken care of every step of the way, from the day you book, through to the last day of your holiday. Occasionally passengers fall ill or have an accident whilst on holiday preventing them from travelling home with the coach or on the return flight or requiring medical care when abroad. This may impact you financially; it is a company policy that all our customers hold some form of travel insurance, not necessarily the insurance Just Go! Holidays can offer, when purchasing one of our EU tours.

When do I need to pay the balance of my holiday?

The balance due date (the period before the departure date on which your full balance normally becomes due) is 10 weeks before departure for all Europe holidays by coach. For holidays by air, the balance due date is due with us no later than 10 weeks prior to travel. For European holidays of 14 days or more, the balance due date is with us no later than 12 weeks prior to travel. For bookings made after the balance due date, full payment is due at the time of booking. You can also make interim payments anytime between paying the deposit and the balance due date. For certain special or sporting events, full payment is due at the time of booking.

Railway excursions

Please note that journeys on certain railways may not always be steam hauled, even when pictured in this brochure as being so. Diesel locomotive trains are sometimes in use on certain journeys over which, regrettably, we have no control.

What do I do if I have a special request?

If you have any special requests, we will do our best to help but we cannot guarantee that they will be fulfilled, they are just a request. If your request is imperative to the enjoyment of your holiday, please inform one of the members of our reservations staff at the time of booking however, we cannot accept a booking on the basis of a request being guaranteed. General confirmation that a special request has been noted or passed on to our supplier is not confirmation that your request will be met. All special requests are subject to availability unless and until they are specifically confirmed by us in writing.

Will there be a toilet on the coach?

Yes, all the holidays featured in our main 2023 brochure will be operated by a modern executive standard coach including a wc onboard. Regular comfort breaks will also be taken.

Will it always be the tour coach that collects me from my chosen pickup point?

Not always, sometimes we utilise smaller transfer vehicles to operate some pickups; these vehicles will transfer you to join the main tour coach. We do this in order to offer a wide range of pickup points and to keep overall journey times for the tour coach to a minimum. Please note: if you have booked front seats or any other guaranteed seats through our seat reservation service, these only apply once you join the main tour coach.

Are the excursions guaranteed to run on the day specified in this brochure?

Our brochures and itineraries are put together sometimes over a year in advance therefore, unfortunately, things may change before the tour takes place and some excursions may be swapped from one day to another.

Will there be tea/coffee makers in the hotel room?

This facility is unfortunately very rarely available in European hotels.

Do I need a passport?

All our Europe, Ireland, Channel Islands and Cruise holidays are sold on the basis that you are a British Passport holder. It is your responsibility to ensure your passport is valid for at least six months from the date of the tour return. On holidays by air within the UK you will also need a form of photo identification. You need to advise us if you are not travelling on a British passport for port security checks. In addition, any visa requirements are your responsibility.

What do I do if I’m not completely happy?

It is imperative that if you are unhappy about any aspect of your holiday, you raise the matter IMMEDIATELY with the coach driver, tour manager or accommodation provider. If you fail to do this and deny us the opportunity to rectify the matter at the time, we shall not accept any responsibility retrospectively. If the matter cannot be resolved immediately, it is a condition that you write to us, quoting your booking reference, with the details of your complaint so that we may commence an investigation.

Important Notice

All prices are correct at the time of this brochure going to print (August 2022). We reserve the right to change our prices from time to time. This could mean that when you book your chosen holiday, the actual price quoted in the brochure may have gone up or down. The correct price will always be confirmed to you at the time of booking. Some of the details within this brochure may have changed since going to print. When you book your holiday we will inform you of any change to any of the relevant details which have occurred prior to you making your booking.
