Downton Abbey

Enjoy a truly unique opportunity to visit Highclere Castle, filming location of the much loved Downton Abbey TV series, which opens its doors exclusively for our customers on Saturday 6th April 2019. Home to the Carnarvon family since 1679, the current castle is one of England’s most beautiful Victorian castles, set amidst 1,000 acres of spectacular parkland and it epitomises the glamour of the Victorian and Edwardian periods. The castle has recently played host to the Downton cast again, for the recording of the brand new Downton Abbey film to be released in September 2019. Walk in the footsteps of your favourite characters and explore what it is like behind the scenes of the ‘real Downton Abbey’.

Day 2: After breakfast, we head to the worldfamous Highclere Castle, residence of the Earl and Countess of Carnarvon and filming location for the much loved Downton Abbey television series and film. Many of the rooms and vistas will be familiar to viewers of the TV series – both the Drawing Room and Dining Room forming the backdrop to the dryly withering put-downs delivered by Maggie Smith, as the Dowager Countess to some poor unfortunate relation. Emmerdale Village

Studio Experience & Historic York Follow in the footsteps of Yorkshire’s best loved soap stars on the Emmerdale Village Tour, a guided walking tour of the popular fictional village located within the Harewood Estate near Leeds. Also included on this weekend break is the Emmerdale Studio Experience, based at the TV soap’s former studios in Leeds, which gives you unprecedented behind-the-scenes access to full-scale interior set reconstructions including Bernice’s Salon and The Woolpack. With authentic costumes, props and special effects secrets too, you’ll have a unique chance to see Britain’s second-longest-running soap both inside and out.

ITINERARY Day 1: We join the coach and travel to our hotel, stopping en-route for lunch (not included). Later, we enjoy dinner together at the hotel. Day 2: After breakfast we head to Emmerdale Village, nestled amongst rolling hills on the Harewood Estate. Here we enjoy a 90-minute guided walking tour of the outdoor filming set taking in familiar haunts such as The Woolpack, the village church and Bob’s Café, with plenty of time to take pictures. Filming continues through the week at Harewood but on selected weekends the site is vacated by the cast and crew, giving us the chance to visit the set. Afterwards, we visit the former ITV studios in Leeds for the Emmerdale Studio Experience. Discover behind-the-scenes secrets on this guided tour which gives an exclusive glimpse into how the cast and crew tell the gripping stories and capture the spectacular stunts you see on your screens. The tour includes full-scale interior set reconstructions including The Woolpack, props, costumes,

Then there’s the Science Centre on Pacific Quay, with pop-up parachutes, Mindball displays and a 3D Imax with a screen the size of a football field – there really is plenty to entertain here. Haworth 1940s Weekend & the Railway Children

Come along and soak up the brilliant atmosphere of Haworth’s 1940s Weekend, an annual event put on by the locals where the picturesque village of Haworth goes back in time to celebrate the spirit of the era. We also explore the scenic Yorkshire countryside as we take a trip on the heritage Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, travelling through a breathtaking landscape of heather and windswept moors on a railway that has become synonymous with the iconic 1970s film The Railway Children.

ITINERARY

Day 2: We head to the village of Oxenhope where we board our train for a round-trip journey on the heritage Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, through beautiful Brontë country. The railway was used as a location for the iconic 1970s film The Railway Children as well as many other films and TV series and the journey takes in an enchanting windswept landscape of heather and wild, rugged moors. A Steam Boat Experience, Liverpool & Chester
