3.2.2 CONSULTANT MEETINGS, SITE VISITS AND LOCAL AUTHORITY SUBMISSIONS I was given the opportunity to go on a construction site visit during the last week of my internship training. The site visit was a residential development project in Ipoh South Precinct, Perak. The construction of this projects are in different stages. However, the estimation duration for this project is 3 years and it should be complete by the end of this year. There are 3 different types of residential which is Terrace / Superlink, Semi-D and Cluster. During the site visit, I was very privileged to be able to attend the site meeting with architect, contractors and engineer. After the site meeting, my supervisors have selected a few units to inspect and I was given the task to do site inspections for terrace and cluster units. Throughout this experience, I now understand that the architect plays a big role in handling on site happenings and be aware of the many rules and regulations on site and also there are many problems that can occur at any time. The site contractors should also do inspections weekly to control the workmanship of the project. Furthermore, I did not have the opportunity to visit local authorities, however, I have understand it through my supervisor about the submission works and the method to handle those documentation in a proper way. As for Building Plan (BP) Submission, it requires a key plan, location plan, site plan, all floors plan, 4 elevations, 2 sections, sanitary and plumbing layout plan and diagrammatic layout. Besides that, the Development Order (DO) Submission, it requires landscaping input, on-site detention for rainwater plans, architectural layout, drawings, perspectives, Kebenaran Merancang (KM) and Laporan Cadangan Pemajuan (LCP). These are some important knowledge I have not learn and experience in my study life.

3.2.3 Uniform Building By-Law 1984 (UBBL) Presentation Every week office will have an internal presentation for different topics. As for interns, Fawwas and I was given a few topics to present from UBBL as because we are still new from this industry and it is important for us to master the basic knowledge such as UBBL. This practices not just to improve our understanding towards the building legislation and regulations, it also helps them to revise and remember it. Besides that, different states such as Selangor and Wilayah has different rules for building. Hence, we were given the task to present Part I to Part III from UBBL book through our own understanding towards the topics given. We have covered Part I - Preliminary, Part IISubmission of Plans for Approval and Part III- Space, Light and Ventilation. This 3 topics are more to the understanding for residential for short storey. Throughout this practice, I have gain more knowledge and better understanding towards the current legislation governing building and construction industry in Malaysia.

3.2.4 Learning Outcomes Upon successful completion of this internship program, I can now identify and recall the authorities’ procedures and requirements with regards Building Plan (BP) Submission and Development Order (DO) Submission drawings. I have also learn to produce and fulfil the needs for a complete set of Building Plan Submission and Development Order Submission and the need for compliance with the relevant bylaws. Besides that, I am now able to identify a typical written specification in support of a set of working drawings. Other than that, I have also learn to prepare sets of tender documents which able to describe the project in sufficient details so that the price submitted by the contractor can be expected to be more realistic. I have also gain a better understanding and produce a typical set of Client-Consultant Meeting (CCM) Minutes and more knowledgeable of the happenings in a real life meeting. Moreover, I am more aware of the resource planning issues that take place in a typical architect’s practice. Last but not least, I have also developed an appreciation towards the value of team work in the office, the working industry has taught me that in order to succeed we need to work together as a team.

3.0 CONCLUSION Overall, my internship training in Sacha And Tan Architects had provided me with a brief insight to the real world of architectural working industry. It was an eye opening experience as I had gotten to explore new things. I am now more aware towards the architectural industry firm and working procedures. It had given me a new perspective towards architecture and an appreciation I would never lose touch of, with a passion which would never die. I now understand the importance and the responsibility of an architect as it is important to have patience, confidence and skills in order to face challenging obstacles and to complete all different task given within a certain period of time. Overall, I have learnt to be passionate and humble towards my learning here in the company. Lastly, I would like to thank Ar. Sacha Ramlan Noordin and Mr. Mohd. Besides that, special thanks to other colleagues that has given me an amazing opportunity to be part of Sacha And Tan Architects.
