Residential Rooftop Amenity & Garden

BRIEF:

Develop a rooftop flex space that promotes engagement and collection for the residents of 17-13 Madison. The intervention should maximize the elevated exterior space to enhance the view. The design needs to differentiate between public social interaction and private solitary spaces.

SOLUTION:

The goal of the project was to create the ideal communal space year-round, considering differing seasonal objectives. In summer months, this means providing green and outdoor spaces while providing shelter during winter given harsh climate.

The focal point of the design was the addition of a flexible space capable of opening during summer months to unify the interior and exterior. In winter, the outdoor spaces would remain connected by large West facing apertures framing the view of the sunset with Manhattan silhouetted in its afterglow.
