Searcy’s offense never got its motor going until late in the fourth quarter when it scored its only touchdown of the game. Batesville scoring in the first half consisted of an interception resulting in a scoring drive with a field goal. Then, a touchdown in the second quarter and a muffed snap during the punt resulted in a safety. Searcy entered halftime down 11-0. Coach Tim Harper said, “We ran into a buzz saw. We had one of the best weeks of practice and why it did not translate into a win I do not know.” Harding Academy quarterback Seth Keese looks for an open receiver during the second quarter of Friday night's contest against Heber Springs at First Security Stadium. After taking down Fountain Lake in the season opener, the Wildcats couldn’t make it two in a row Friday at First Security Stadium. The Heber Springs ground game was too much for Harding Academy, as junior Markeyvus Mays and company torched the Wildcat defense for more than 200 yards rushing in the first half. Mays ended with more than 300 yards rushing, as Heber Springs ended with a 28-14 victory to drop the Wildcats to 1-1 on the season.

The Raiders earned their first victory of the season Friday night on the road, defeating Batesville Southside 33-20. One of the key plays of the game was when sophomore safety McKenzie Jones returned an interception for a touchdown going into halftime, giving his team a 20-8 advantage at the break. “The kids fought hard,” Riverview Head Coach Stuart Hill said. “It’s always great to get that first win and we got better tonight.”

The Bulldogs kept their perfect record intact on Friday, defeating Newport 42-21 to improve to 2-0. Bald Knob was led by sophomore wide receiver Jordan Johnston, who had six receptions for 76 yards and a touchdown, as well as 12 rushes for 113 yards and two scores, to go along with four tackles from his defensive end position. “I’m pleased with our victory,” Bald Knob Head Coach Paul Johnston said. “Any time you go to Newport and get a victory with the speed they have, and put up 40 points on a team like this, that’s always great. The kids played their hearts out.”
By Noah Trister The Associated Press Louisiana-Monroe will have one factor in its favor when it tries to pull off the upset against No. 14 Arkansas: the element of mystery. The Warhawks are only now playing their season opener, and that means no scouting report from last weekend to help the Razorbacks. In fact, even last year's tapes might be a bit deceiving because Louisiana-Monroe has a new coach and a new quarterback. "There's no quesPETRINO tion about it," Warhawks coach Todd Berry said. "There are some unique things to us that they haven't seen from us before or haven't seen from me." Berry's team will need to take advantage of any edge it can, because the Warhawks will be heavy underdogs Saturday night against the Razorbacks. Led by quarterback Ryan Mallett, Arkansas is expected to brush aside Louisiana-Monroe in Little Rock, Ark., before massive clashes later this month with Georgia and Alabama. The Razorbacks started the season with a 44-3 win over Tennessee Tech in which Mallett completed all but three of his passes. Arkansas also looked sharp on defense, holding the Golden Eagles to a field goal after an early goal line stand and shutting them out the rest of the way — and the Razorbacks (1-0) think they're still capable of much more. "I feel like it was dominant, but we always can do better," linebacker Jerico Nelson said. "We still had some missed assignments and things like that. In a different game, a different situation, we probably could give up a big play." The offensive story was similar. The Razorbacks made mistakes, even if not all CONTINUED ON PAGE 2B

The Badgers started out strong in their first home game of the season Friday night against Lonoke, but couldn’t keep their momentum, losing 26-21. Scoring two touchdowns in the first quarter, Beebe kept the lead until Lonoke tied the game late in the third quarter. Though Beebe gained the lead back early in the fourth , they couldn’t hold it long. Lonoke scored quickly and scored once more just a few minutes later, while holding Beebe without a score for the remainder of the game.

The Ramblers put up a ton of points, but it wasn’t enough as they fell to host Mountain Home 48-35. Coach Steve Rose said his team giving up a third-and-long before halftime ended up being a turning point in the game. “We couldn’t get the turnover we needed to get back in it, but it was fun to watch,” Rose said The Ramblers fall to 1-1 on the season, and Mountain View improves to 1-1.
