Getaway Car
Some lucky car collector will soon get to park the 1961 Aston Martin driven by Peter Sellers in the comedy crime caper The Wrong Arm of The Law in their own garage, thanks to a July 14 Goodwood Festival of Speed auction hosted by the newly rebranded British motoring department of international auction house Bonhams. Topping out at a speed of more than 150 miles per hour, the DB4GT Coupé Chassis also owned by the actor himself was considered one of the fastest grand tourers of its time. Sellers, a noted car collector and aficionado of luxury marques, was particularly fond of Aston Martins. "The DB4GT was bred to compete and gained immense success on the racetrack in both National and International competition,” says Bonhams Cars Senior Collector Car Consultant James Knight. “It's arguably Aston Martin's finest road car and is right up there as the ultimate 1960s GT.” If you have any doubt at all, stream the film to watch Sellers’ character “Pearly Gates” make a quick getaway on a high-speed chase through Uxbridge Moor with a Wolseley 6/0- police car in pursuit. The car is expected to sell for more than $2.3 million. For more information or a list of other upcoming inventions, visit bonhams.com.
