Spook-tacular Stories TWO NORTH SHORE EVENTS EMBRACE THE HALLOWEEN SEASON WITH SPINE-TINGLING TALES AND DARING ENDEAVORS. BY SHERRY THOMAS THE NORTH SHORE WEEKEND

Halloween on the North Shore is never limited to one Hallows’ Eve. Between the Highwood Pumpkin Festival and Ragdale’s “Rags to Witches” event, children of all ages are tiptoeing out in costume from mid-October through the end of the month. While those two popular festivals are over, there are still some fun ways to get into the Halloween spirit. Lake Bluff History Museum is hosting “Spirits in the Night,” an evening of storytelling fun, next Wednesday, October 30. IN PERFECT HARMONY WINNETKA NATIVE AND SILICON VALLEY ENTREPRENEUR ALYSSA RAPP RELEASES A NEW BOOK ABOUT LIFE HACKS AND LEADERSHIP. BY EMMA REYNOLDS AND SHERRY THOMAS THE NORTH SHORE WEEKEND

While life in the 21st century seems overwhelming, Alyssa Rapp has found time to do it all. The Winnetka native, who spent the past 10 years as an entrepreneur in Silicon Valley, traded in mild California winters last year for a more well-rounded life in Winnetka. And if that’s not impressive enough, her new book Leadership & Life Hacks shares tips for fellow moms, wives, entrepreneurs, and executives. Several events throughout the North Shore this month have been featuring Rapp and her refreshing perspective on navigating life. Former Chairman and CEO of Playboy Enterprises Christie Hefner says the book is a perfect reflection of its author’s intellectual agility and commitment to being a lifelong learner. “I can’t imagine anyone not both enjoying and benefiting from its useful stories and suggestions about making your life more efficient and impactful,” says Hefner, who is also regarded as a strategic advisor and progressive activist. “My friend Alyssa Rapp is a force of nature,” adds Marissa Mayer, CEO and co-founder of Lumi Labs and former CEO of Yahoo. “Smart, savvy, fierce, loyal. She knows what she wants out of life, isn’t afraid to be honest and vocal about it, and will go after what she wants with all of her gusto. She has many great stories to tell and a ton of useful ‘hacks’ as she calls them. Continued on PG 10 Alyssa Rapp PHOTOGRAPHY BY ROBIN SUBAR
