LISA BULZONI, M.Ed, was recently promoted to the position of Chief Executive Officer at Reading Power Inc. The organization provides one-to-one high-dosage literacy tutoring for prekindergarten through second grade children in North Chicago, Waukegan, and Zion. With more than 25 years of experience in education, Bulzoni has proven herself a highly capable leader, having previously served as the Executive Director of Programs and Operations. Her invaluable contributions since joining the organization in 2017 have been integral to its remarkable growth. Despite many obstacles over the last three years, Bulzoni’s exceptional leadership has led to significant improvement in student performance. accomplishments: grandmother.

Growing up in a home with parents who were civil rights activists, certain people stand out as heroes of our time. Currently, I am reading Walking with the Wind by John Lewis. With his passing, one of our great voices is gone, and we all need to do our part to make sure his vision of a better world is actualized. As he would say, we can all get in ‘good trouble.’ As a new grandmother, I am revisiting all my favorite children’s books: Brown Bear Brown Bear, What Do You See, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Little Blue Truck, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, and the list goes on. Being part of my granddaughter’s literacy journey is so exciting.

Brené Brown, Simon Sinek, and Glennon Doyle. I like to stay current with news, education, and leadership and read The Marshall Memo—A Weekly Roundup of Important Ideas and Research in K-12 Education.

#IN MY EARBUDS

On a warm summer evening, I love to unwind by sitting on my deck with a glass of Sancerre, listening to Carol King. Music can transport me to a simpler time. On my way to and from work, I can also be found listening to Glennon Doyle’s podcast We Can Do Hard Things. It affirms our vulnerability and helps us realize we are not alone.
