Ravinia Leader, Pilgrim Players Take the Stage BY DONALD LIEBENSON DAILYNORTHSHORE.COM

It does not happen often, but when Ravinia Festival President and CEO Welz Kauffman is not programming Ravinia’s summer season, scouting artists at concerts and musical festivals around the world, and raising money for the more than century-old music festival, he performs in concert. On March 11, he will accompany soprano Michelle Areyzaga on piano as part of the Pilgrim Chamber Players’ concert celebration of Leonard Bernstein’s centennial. “There is no more important American musician in classical music,” Kauffman said in a phone interview. Bernstein, born August 25, 1918, was a superstar conductor and the composer of symphonies, operas, ballets, choral works, chamber music, piano pieces, and film and stage musicals. He is perhaps most popularly known for his score for the Tony and Oscar-winning musical West Side Story and his series of Young People’s Concerts that were broadcast on CBS between 1958-1972. He passed away in 1990. Now in its 21st season, The Highland Parkbased concert series sets the stage for consummate Chicago musicians to perform themed concerts. The Bernstein tribute is a representative sampling of his vast works. The program will include his Sonata for Clarinet and Piano, Three Meditations for cello and piano from his epic Mass, which was commissioned by Jacqueline Kennedy for the 1971 Continued on PG 10

HERE COME THE OSCARS WILMETTE FAMILY PHOTO SPOOF BECOMES ANNUAL TRADITION BY EMILY SPECTRE DAILYNORTHSHORE.COM

Nothing captures this year’s Oscar nominated movies as well as the Storinos of Wilmette, who have been recreating adorable stills of best picture nominees since 2011 starring their three daughters ages seven, five and two. The concept is the brainchild of mom Maggie Storino, whose photos went viral after she shared pictures of her oldest daughter, Sophia, who was only four months old at the time. Since then, the Oscar photos—called Don’t Call Me Oscar—have become an annual family tradition, helping the Storinos get through the punishing Chicago winters. Now that the kids are getting bigger, they are starting to come up with their own ideas on how to recreate a scene. Storino shared a few of the photos and personal insights on her famous side gig. To see all of the photos and hilarious out-takes, go to Instagram@dontcallmeoscar or dontcallmeoscar.tumblr.com. DailyNorthShore: Now that you are in your eighth year for Don’t Call Me Oscar, how has this project changed and what keeps you coming back to it? Storino: Don’t Call Me Oscar is an amazing way to spend time with my family. As the kids’ school and activity schedules become more demanding, this project is the perfect excuse to make time to play together. DNS: Are you kids providing you with more
