Sally set to steer school board’s vision at New Trier BY EMILY SPECTRE DAILYNORTHSHORE.COM

A

n ex-Wildkit looks forward to becoming the top dog at New Trier High School. NTHS will soon have a new superintendent — and a former standout swimmer at Evanston Township High School — at the helm. Dr. Paul Sally serves as New Trier’s associate superintendent for curriculum and instruction, and he will take over as superintendent on July 1, 2017, after Dr. Linda Yonke retires in June. Dr. Sally joined New Trier in 1994 as a math teacher and spent 15 years in the math department, including four years as the Northfield campus coordinator for the mathematics department. He was promoted to assistant superintendent in 2009 and associate superintendent in 2014, where he is responsible for overseeing faculty supervision and evaluation, professional development, testing and all major curricular initiatives. W

ilmette resident and nationally known singer Megon McDonough loves the holidays, but she knows it can be a rough time for people. She learned this early in life, when her father died of a stroke and her older sister died in a car crash shortly after the holidays. It was the Christmas that she received her first guitar, which she had been begging for since earlier that year when she saw The Beatles perform on The Ed Sullivan Show. “Music became for me the great healer. It helped me process my feelings,” McDonough said of that difficult time. It was also the beginning of her love of holiday music, which she will bring to Wilmette Theatre on December 17 with a
