GLENVIEW— xpansion of kindergarten for children in need of extra attention is on the horizon for Glenview School District 34, but full-day kindergarten for all students is not on the near-term agenda. Recommendations to fine tune the existing early intervention kindergarten program were offered to the District 34 Board of Education at its May 16 meeting in Glenview, letting board members know how it will be modified. Early intervention kindergarten is for children who need extra help with communication and language skills to reach first grade on a par with the rest of their classmates, according to Superintendent Mike Nicholson. He said some of the youngsters are English Language Learners. The program includes approximately 15 percent of the incoming kindergarten population, according to district spokesperson Faith Behr. ummer is finally here and the North Shore offers many fun outdoor activities. Here is a complete summer beach and pool guide including hours, openings and other important information! LAKE BLUFF: Pool~Park District to held Ribbon Cutting Ceremonies at Sunrise Park & Beach and Lake Bluff Pool on May 28. At Sunrise Park and Beach the new access stairs are now open. At Lake Bluff Pool, the newly constructed tot pool is now open! It replaces the one closed in 2009 and features a zero depth entry, new play and shade structures. The main pool features a new liner and repaired deck. The locker rooms and restrooms have been updated including the addition of an accessible washroom. Beach~Sunrise Beach Regular Hours Lifeguards and monitors will be on duty Saturday, June 4 through Sunday, Aug. 7 during the following hours (M-F from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. and weekends 9 Continued on PG 10
