‘Garden’ variety: ACE set to display an array of artwork in Glencoe BY STACY FLANNERY
T
he grounds of the Chicago Botanic Garden have been officially set abuzz with excitement for the American Craft Exposition (ACE) this weekend. Thursday night was the highly anticipated Preview Party, which kicked off the three-day show, beginning today and lasting through Sunday. Over 140 artists, selected by a jury, have prepared for the throngs of craft connoisseurs planning to make their way to Glencoe to enjoy their offerings of ceramics, glass, fashion wearables, jewelry, and other pieces from their oneof-a-kind collections. ynn Braun’s children did not take their mom’s 2012 Parkinson’s diagnosis sitting down. Her daughter Haley Lelah joined her then 57-year-old mom in donning boxing gloves, and they’ve been fighting the disease ever since. Braun’s three children and two sons-in-law created the Moving for Mom team with about 100 participants to participate in the September 24 National Parkinson Foundation’s (NPF) 5th Annual Moving Day Chicago, a walk for Parkinson’s. Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a disorder of the central nervous system that affects movement, often including tremors. The Moving for Mom group is the largest team in the event.
