Railroad expansion plan slows down BY STEVE SADIN DAILYNORTHSHORE.COM

A

plan to add six daily roundtrip Amtrak runs between Chicago and Milwaukee bringing a nearly two-mile long freight train holding track to Lake Forest and another spanning Glenview and Northbrook has slowed down. Federal and state officials extended the period for public comment on their environmental assessment 60 days to January 15, giving municipal governments time to learn more and make additional suggestions. Scott Speegle, the passenger rail communications manager for the Illinois Department of Transportation, said IDOT, the Federal Railroad Administration and the Wisconsin Department of Transportation jointly reacted to the initial public response. A

fter 14 years of worshiping in temporary space and octupling in size, Willow Creek Community Church’s North Shore location is ready to open. Willow Creek North Shore will hold its grand opening service at 5 p.m. December 3, with Sunday worship at 9 a.m. and 11:15 a.m. December 4 in the new Adrian Smith-designed building at 2200 Shermer Road in Glenview. Starting with approximately 250 members 14 years ago and renting space from the Christian Heritage Academy in Northfield, the North Shore branch of the seven-campus South Barringtonbased congregation now has 2,000 members, according to Steve Gillen, the lead pastor in Glenview. “This increases what we will be able to do for our community and our church,” said Gillen. “We can do so much more for kids and our middle school and high school ministries. It gives us a place to welcome the community.” The 70,000-square-foot building was constructed in the shape of a mustard seed under the watchful eye of Smith, a Lake Continued on PG 8
