chools in Winnetka and Wilmette received threatening phone calls on June 7 and 8 that police say are similar to fraudulent calls that have been made to schools across the United States and in the United Kingdom. Wilmette police said the calls were vulgar and implied violent acts. In Winnetka, police said a caller claimed a person with a handgun was outside of Crow Island School. “Literally hundreds of schools have been victimized in school districts throughout the United States as well as the United Kingdom,” Wilmette Police Chief Brian King wrote in a letter to District 39 parents on June 8. ABC News reported schools in Wisconsin, Colorado, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire Minnesota, Montana, Washington and Wyoming have all reported automated threatening phone calls.
