WINO:

STREETWALKER: “Girl, do what you gotta. When I was pregnant, I ate an entire fried chicken so fast; it looked like a baby being born… IN REVERSE.”

Trish, a chef from Hobart asks: Since I became pregnant, I’ve been craving fried chicken like crazy. Is it unhealthy to eat that way when you’re pregnant?

“Man, I can’t eat greasy food like that. I get diarrhea so bad, I could crap through the eye of a needle!”

WINO:

STREETWALKER: “One time, I overheard my maternity doctor say, “This one should give birth at Fair Oaks Farms.” How did he know I loved animals!?”

STREETWALKER: “Girl, I WISH I could take out my nipple rings. I sweat like crazy and now they’re as rusty as the Titanic! HELP!”

Pamela, a teacher from Crown Point, asks: What should I expect in the delivery room my first time? C-Sections, epidurals or natural childbirth?

Joanne, a music critic from Valpariso, asks: I want to breastfeed my baby when it’s born, but does that mean I have to take out my nipple rings?

NWI MUSIC

BAD CADILLAC for the next 12 months.”

Classic rock is a genre of music that’s a favorite amongst many. Between the beats, the lyrics, and the sounds, the good vibes keep people moving in their seats, and dancing on their feet. A night out at the bar is a great way to catch up on some of that good ole’ classic music, and if you have been dying to hear some new, original classic rock songs, then a show by Bad Cadillac is one you don’t want to miss.

So where did the guys come up with the name Bad Cadillac? Well, the guys – who are all from the NWI area - say it got started with a song and a band concept for an original album written by Terry. Now those songs are all a part of their debut album. “Along with all original songs I wrote, Bill contributed three of the original songs on the CD. Josh also did some writing as well, in fact his first attempt at writing landed him a song on the CD.”

Bad Cadillac is a variety band that plays primarily classic rock music with strong roots. Their philosophy is “a good song is a good song” regardless of the genre – and if they like it, they can do it justice will play it. The main drive for the band is original music and they are excited to announce some big news to their fans. “Our debut CD is dropping in April,” said Darrell Terry, frontman and guitar player for Bad Cadillac. “We want people to dance the night away and see that the band has developed a sound that is unique to them.”

Bad Cadillac is a band that takes pride in the fact that every member contributes so much and they get along so well- a true well-oiled machine! In addition to original music, you can catch Bad Cadillac covering songs from great artists like Tom Petty, Bob Seger, John Mellencamp, Stevie Ray, Steve Miller, George Jones and Merle Haggard. “It really depends on the audience that is in front of us that drives the energy and type of songs we will pull out for each show.”

From the song writing to each individual member – Terry, along with Bill Hayden on Keyboards, Joe Cyprian on Bass, Izzy Martinez on Drums, and Josh Neal Harmonica; each member brings their individual influences and experience to the project. “We’ve been performing together for the last two years as we worked on our CD,” explained Terry. “During that time we’ve had the opportunity to perform at the Travis Tritt concert last summer at Fair Oaks farms, as well as maintain our weekly show on Sundays from 8pm-12am at Goodfellas in Cedar Lake.” The release of their first CD has been a long time coming for Bad Cadillac, and they are excited that it has finally come to fruition. They also say they are lucky that their Keyboardist has been able to play such an integral role in making this happen. “Bill Hayden also does video production, so all the singles from the CD will have a video release,” Terry stated. “Our first video release Fade to Rust has had over 100,000 views to date. We plan on releasing one video a month

If you want to be a part of the big CD release party, head on over to Goodfellas in Cedar Lake on Sunday, April 28th from 7pm-12am. At this big party, their will be CD and merchandise giveaways. It’s going to be a night to have a meet and greet with the band, and just have an overall great time. If you can’t make it to the show, you can always catch the band live the second Friday of every month at the Track Lounge in Crown Point, or every Sunday at Goodfellas in Cedar Lake. You can also keep up with their latest happenings online at www.badcaddy.com.

It’s a milestone worth recognizing, as the Stadium Bar and Grill in Dyer celebrates their one year anniversary. Owner Tim Lange bought the bar in March of 2012 and kept the name it had since 2008. “It was originally known as Stagecoach and then got changed to Bookies,” said Lange. “Then in 2008, the bar changed its name to Stadium, so when I bought it I decided to just keep the name.” Stadium Bar and Grill, located at 1468 Joliet Street in Dyer is a true sports bar and grill, made up of 16 stools around the bar, 4 high top tables for 5 people, and 4 high top tables for 8 people. There are TV’s all around the bar so sports fans can watch all their favorite games – everything from baseball to football, basketball to hockey. The bar also features two pool tables, a dart board, and beer pong, but perhaps what they are known best for is their drinks and entertainment. “We are known as THE place to go for karaoke and cheap drinks,” said Lange. “We have the best drink prices around.” So let’s talk about those drinks!! The Stadium Bar and Grill has Miller Lite, Genuine Draft, and 3 Floyds Pride and Joy on tap. They also have 8 domestic beers in bottles and 13 import/specialty beers in bottles. They also have standard liquors for a bar - rails, calls and premiums. “Friday and Saturday nights are our busiest nights of the week - with karaoke and it being the weekend,” said Lange. “Monday and Wednesday - also with karaoke and cheap beers are pretty busy for us too.”

Now that we’ve addressed the bar portion of Stadium, let’s talk about the grill. The menu offers huge portions at low prices. “We are known for our spicy meatball sandwich. Homemade spicy meatballs with homemade spaghetti sauce and melted mozzarella cheese served on homemade garlic bread,” said Lange. “We also have burgers, pizzas, beef sandwich, chicken blt, club sandwich, grilled cheese, shrimp basket-all served with fries.” They also have many appetizers as well – favorites like cheesesticks, chicken tenders, chicken wings, onion rings, loaded fries, nachos, and mini corn dogs. And if you’re looking to partake in some good aps with a cold drink, Thursday is a great night to be at the Stadium because they offer $3 appetizers. And speaking of Thursday night, Stadium offers a night of fun and dancing as their DJ plays dance music after 10:00pm. And that’s not the only kind of entertainment they offer. “I know Jack Adams is bringing BAM in here when the weather gets nice, probably towards the end of April, beginning of May,” said Lange. “I will be looking into some other bands coming up soon.” And when the weather gets nice, Lange is excited to offer his patrons something great outdoors, something many may not even know was recently done. “I remodeled the beer garden and will have live music every Wednesday outside when the weather turns nice,” he said. There is five picnic tables, two sets of bags, bleachers and a bar out in the beer garden.” Stadium Bar and Grill is open Monday through Saturday from 3:00pm-3:00am. Back Court Karaoke We’ve all watched the reality TV shows where aspiring singers get to live out their dreams in front of a national audience. Many of us may have wished we could have tried out – but perhaps never had the opportunity. But now, local singers in Northwest Indiana got to show off their chops in a little bar competition. The Back Court Bar and Grill in Crown Point held a Karaoke contest called Chicagoland Idol. Organizer Robin Bender said people came out in droves. “During our Karaoke nights we had anywhere from 8-15 people that would try and qualify, but we had over 20 people on the open karaoke song rotation” she said. “We had the contest for four weeks, and each night we had five people who qualified for the semi-finals.” With 20 singers in the semi-finals, Bender said it was a true “who’s who of karaoke.” After the semi-finals, they were able to narrow it down to the ten best for the big finale held on March 22nd. The best singers in the area battled it out, but in the end Georgia Kristine Revell was named the winner and received a cash prize of $300. Malaquias J. Paez came in second place and won a cash prize of 4100, and then Jason Moseley came in third place and won a $50 gift certificate from Rubino’s in Merrillville.

“This is the first time we did a contest like this,” said Bender. “There have been other contests in the area but people have said they either didn’t know about it or were intimated to perform. We were thrilled we were able to do this contest – it was a good way to introduce karaoke to this bar.” Karaoke is really growing in popularity, and it was evident by the turnout received for this contest. “I think what attracts people to karaoke is the fact that it gives them a sense of being divas and rock stars,” Bender said. “That’s how people feel when they are holding a mic, standing in front of an audience.” And because this event was such a big hit, they are going to keep karaoke around for some time to come. “Not only are we going to continue karaoke at Back Court, we are going to run a contest about every 4 months,” Bender said. Every Friday night will be Karaoke Night at Back Court Bar and Grill. There is no cover charge, and there will be $3.50 Corona’s on special. The next contest will start June 7th with a $500 first prize. For more information, go to Facebook and check out Back Court Bar.

NWI BAR

bars is the fact that they have a beer garden. “With warmer weather around the corner, we know our beer garden will be the place to be,” said Snemis. “The Beer Garden is just a fun place to be in the summer, and it gives people the opportunity to do the two things they love – drink ice cold beer and enjoy the wonderful weather.”

The bar, named after owner John Plohg, has been a family owned and operated business for the last 36 years. The family togetherness feel is something that is evident when you walk through the doors, and it is a big reason why this establishment has been such a big success. For years, locals have come to enjoy not only the wonderful atmosphere, but perhaps one of the biggest attention getters of this establishment is that they offer drinks at a great price. “Monday nights is one of our busier nights, and it’s probably because we offer $1.50 domestic beers,” said Snemis. “People always tell us they love our cheap beer prices, and it’s great to be able to offer this to our guests.”

When the weather does get warm, John’s Place offers up a big Summer Golf outing, as well as live entertainment. Currently, Thursdays are another one of their busy nights because they have great live entertainment. And the best part - there is never a cover to enjoy the amazing talents of our fine local bands. “John’s Place is just a great place to meet up with family and friends, enjoy some good company and an ice cold beverage,” said Snemis. “It’s also great for those looking for a bite to eat with their beverage – we serve pizza.”

There awesome drink specials include: Monday - $1.50 Domestic Beer Tuesday - $2.75 Imports & Red solo cup mixed

drinks (no top shelf) Wednesday - $2.00 Bud, Bud Lite, Old Style Thursday - $3.00 Cherry Bomb, $2.00 Domestic Draught Friday - $3.50 all Draughts 23oz Saturday & Sunday - Domestic Buckets 5 for $10.00 John’s Place offers five beers on tap, as well as 10 Domestic Bottles and 15 Import Bottles. But perhaps what sets them aside from other neighborhood

JOHN’S PLACE

If you’ve never been to John’s Place in Griffith, then you are missing out on a place that’s been around for nearly four decades. That’s right, owners John and Mary Sue Plohg bought the bar in October of 1977 and have been the owners ever since. This neighborhood bar has become the place to hang out, offering up a warm and cozy atmosphere with a friendly staff that’s keeps people coming back. “We like to say our bar is a friendly bar where everybody knows your name,” said Paulette Plohg-Snemis, daughter of Owners John and Mary Sue and the current manager of John’s Place.

During football season, John’s Place offers up free food during the Bears game, a favorite amongst regulars of this establishment. And you can enjoy watching that game and other games on one of the several TV’s you’ll find at the bar. You can kick back and relax at one of the seven high top tables they have, or take a seat at one of the 25 barstools. John’s Place is located at 1613 N. Cline Avenue in Griffith and is open from Monday through Saturday from 7:00am to 2:00am and on Sundays from 11:00am-12:00am. To learn more about their specials, or about upcoming performances, check out their Facebook page.

“When beer is your calling, you never clock out.” It’s quite the catchy phrase coming from the guys of Tenth and Blake in regards to a new beer. Third Shift is a delightful amber lager brought to you by the Band of Brewers – a group of hard-working professional brewers who love what they do. Their passion drives them to pursue brewing perfection any time of the day or night, and as a result of their diligent work, Third Shift is a two-time gold medal winner. Now, while awards are nice, it’s the beer that matters most – and that’s what gets the Band of Brewers really excited. Now – let’s get to the tasting of this beer. When I got out my bottle I was going to try, I had to stop and take in the cool label. It has kind of a retro feel, with the blue and tan color scheme – makes you feel like it’s a true working man’s beer (or woman’s)! Since I admired the bottle so much, I wanted to take in its color and aroma, so I poured it into a chilled pint glass. My first thought, “What a nice looking beer!” It poured a beautiful golden orange color with a thin white head, and it had a familiar smell – basic lager with a hint of sweetness. As I took my first taste, it definitely reminded me of the other ambers I’ve had before, but this one had a little kick at the end that was unlike any other. It truly has its own distinct flavor and I could see why Third Shift is a two-time gold medal winner! Third Shift is one of those brews that will be great all year long, and would pair really well with dishes like grilled chicken, roasted pork loin, pizza and fried appetizers. Third Shift can be found at local liquor stores, grocery stores and pharmacies. You can also find it on tap at bars around Northwest Indiana. To learn more about this brew, go to http:// www.thirdshiftbrewing.com.

NWI MUSIC

If you love all different styles of music, then you’ll love the band Jampagne. A variety band that plays everything from the 50’s to present day, Jampagne can be described as a band that plays Funk, Classic Rock and Motown. The group has been around for just over a year, but has over 100 years of combined experience among all of the band members. “We started this band after I contacted Mike Modejeski our guitar player,” said Joe Pernick, Lead Vocalist and Trumpet Player f Jampagne. “I asked him - Are you playing with anyone? Do you want to play? And, can you get in touch with Bob? The three had all played together on the road over 25 years ago and were excited to reunite. Pernick had two others in mine to join this amazing trio. “I had recently been playing in Chicago with Mimi De St. Jean, for a couple of years before putting this new band together so I knew he’d be a great fit,” he said. “And we had worked with Drummer Randy Perterson in the past so when Mimi ran into him playing a benefit and asked if we wanted to come aboard, he did.” Mike Modjeski and Bobby Bloomquest, along with Mimi, Randy and Joe make up the group Jampagne. Now, speaking of the name, where did the guys come up with it? “We were trying to come up with a name and nothing was working so we decided to just get together and jam,” said Pernick. “And then someone, I think it was Mike, said Jampagne. We thought - that could be the name of the band!” Jampagne is a band based out of Valparaiso that plays everywhere from the Chicago area up into West Michigan. They perform at bars, weddings, festivals and private parties, and love to line up as many gigs as they can. Jampagne is gaining in popularity because the group is different than others in the area. “We bring the variety of music to the show,” said Pernick. “It could be the Doobie Brothers into Chaka Chan into Bon Jovi or Michael Jackson. We always mix it up and we always try to bring some new material to the different places we play.” Since the group came together in 2011, Jampagne has played a number of venues, but perhaps the biggest the crowd these guys have played in front of is Harley Bike Nights where they saw crowds of several hundred. They hope to see more this year at the Bike Nights, and look forward to other outdoor venues as the weather warms up. So what can you expect at a Jampagne show? Well, since their set list changes often, it’s safe to say you can expect to hear a hit song when it was out, and they are striving to make sure it makes fans want to get on their feet and move! “We love to mix it up with some current hits and older classics and like to put a few unexpected medleys together too,” said Pernick. Want to know more about Jampagne? Well, the guys are really good about keeping things up to date so you can check their website www.jampagne.com and Facebook for updates. Their schedule can change weekly with bars and private parties so keeping online and in the social networks for the best way to find us near you. You can also hear some of their music by going to their Reverbnation page, http://www.reverbnation.com/jampagne. “We want to thank our fans for supporting us and enjoy entertaining them and always look forward to seeing them at any venue we play.”
