The Big Squeeze The local bar was so sure that its bartender was the

strongest man around that they offered a standing $1000

bet. The bartender would squeeze a lemon until all the juice ran into a glass, and hand the lemon to a patron. Anyone

who could squeeze one more drop of juice out would win

the money. Many people had tried over time (weight-lifters, longshoremen, etc.) but nobody could do it.

One day this scrawny little man came into the bar, wearing thick glasses and a polyester suit, and said in a tiny

squeaky voice “ I’d like to try the bet” After the laughter

had died down, the bartender said OK, grabbed a lemon,

and squeezed away. Then he handed the wrinkled remains of the rind to the little man.

But the crowd’s laughter turned to total silence as the

man clenched his fist around the lemon and six drops fell into the glass. As the crowd cheered, the bartender paid

the $1000, and asked the little man “what do you do for a

living? Are you a lumberjack, a weight-lifter, or what?” The man replied “I work for the IRS.”

2nd Annual Lightning Bug Music Festival Benefits Dunes Learning Center Jim Chaddock has certainly come a long way. For twenty years the guitarist made the music scene and all that comes with it his life. But for the last nine years Chaddock has enjoyed a more peaceful life as a husband and father. And in even sharper contrast to his former life as a full time musician, today Chaddock has become a farmer and a pizza chef. His career as a restaurateur began in 2010, when Chaddock and his wife Andrea Georgion, a gourmet chef, launched a unique business, “The Rolling Stonebaker”. The Rolling Stonebaker food trucks feature wood-fired

8 N WI E nte rtai ne r.co m • A PR 15

pizza ovens perched on vintage Studebaker trucks that serve pizza at farm markets and catered events. The pizzas are made fresh with local ingredients, many grown on the couple’s three acre farm. For a man who has released two albums and once opened for the likes of Warren Zevon and Beausoleil, the mobile pizza business represents quite a departure from his former life. “I thought it would be cool to change it up and do something different,” said Chaddock. “So I switched careers. People used to recognize me as a musician, and now I’m the pizza man. I miss playing, but my new gig is really gratifying

and a better fit for me now with a young family.” In spite of his new career as a pizza chef, Chaddock has not completely forsaken his love of music. Chaddock still plays gigs a couple times a month and today he is transitioning into a music promoter. In 2014, Chaddock and Georgion founded the “Lightning Bug Music Festival”. As music lovers, the couple wanted to create a family friendly music festival that would bring national acts to Northwest Indiana for a day of music, food and fun. And even more importantly, the festival was dedicated to raising money for a good cause, the Dunes Learning Center. The Dunes Learning Center, located in Chesterton, provides underprivileged kids with exceptional outdoor experiences that inspire community, environmental stewardship and a lifelong love of learning. “We wanted to stage a family friendly event that would bring in some big name acts and raise money for a good cause too,” said Chaddock. “So we went to the Dunes Learning Center with the idea.” “And not only did we not lose money last year, we had a thousand people come out and we raised over $6,000.” This year, the Lightning Bug Music Festival will return to scenic Sunset Hill Farm in Valparaiso once again on Sunday, July 5th from noon until dusk, rain or shine.

This year’s lineup features 2015 Grammy Award winner Jerry Douglas and the Earls of Leicester, Blitzen Trapper, The Infamous Stringdusters, SHEL and Special Consensus. “We got an earlier start this year and we have a terrific lineup,” said Chaddock. “Jerry Douglas has won about fourteen Grammys and the Earls of Leicester have some real bluegrass heavyweights in the band. Sunset Hill Farm is a beautiful county park with a natural amphitheatre. It should be a great experience for everyone.” In addition to great music, the Lightning Bug Music Festival will feature craft beer and wine from around the Region, and of course the Rolling Stonebaker trucks will be on hand serving delicious pizza. In addition, the Hungry Inc. food truck and Valpo Velvet Ice Cream will also be on hand. Tickets to the festival are $36.00 and kids under 12 will be admitted free. For credit card and PayPal orders, tickets are available at www. lightningbugmusicfestival.com. Cash customers can purchase tickets Hunter’s Brewing in Chesterton and at Front Porch Music in Valparaiso. Music fans interested in seeing Jim Chaddock perform can check him out on Saturday, April 11th at Gastro 49, located at 361 Calumet Road in Chesterton.

It was at one of these gigs that Claybough met Robert LeBeau, the “Beau” of New Orleans Beau and the Big EZ Band. After sitting in with the band, Claybough joined the group and began playing all over the south side at places like the Checkerboard Lounge, Blues on Halsted, Kingston Mines and Lee’s Unleaded Blues. And for the next five years, Claybough would play the south side juke joint blues scene six nights a week. And in addition to the Chicago scene, LeBeau would hook up with promoters and book shows in Alabama, Mississippi, New Orleans and elsewhere in the south. But five years of fast living and hard drinking took its toll, and at age 23 Claybough felt like he was out of control and almost quit the music scene altogether.

10 N W I E nte rtai ne r.com • A PR 15

So Claybough took a hiatus from music and got sober. He also met and married his wife Danielle. And now, with his life back in order, Claybough has decided to make a comeback. “I was so out of control that I almost hung it up,” said Claybough. “But I don’t drink like that anymore and I’ve learned a lot about myself. For the last year I’ve only played about once a month, either with Beau or with the Jake Blues Band so I’m ready to get back into the scene.” “Music has taught me a lot of things and helped me through a lot of things. It’s something I can relate to. Music has never let me down. Music is my life.” For information concerning booking the Jake Blues Band, call 219-314-1931 or 219-671-2124.

STREETWALKER: Tina Heffernan

STREETSMARTS Enjoying alcohol responsibly.

Created by: Sam Mechling

TASTES LIKE: a 9-volt battery drizzled in cat pee. NICKNAME: “Jaws 3D”

STREETWALKER: “Sh*t! One time, “Elephant Tusk”, my old pimp, made me give him “skully” while he was driving. We ran over some railroad tracks and that damn thing gave me a detached retina!!!”

WINO: Jack Perkins SMELLS LIKE: a bedpan filled with burnt eggs. PERSONAL QUOTE: “Don’t sh*t in my mouth and tell me it’s a sundae!!!”

WINO: “PEER PRESSURE?!? You ever had a group of meth-heads hold you at gun-point while you nail your d*ck to a burning barn?!?!”

Dayna, a student from Valpo asks: Do you have any advice for a college sophomore who is experiencing a great deal of peer pressure to drink alcohol??

STREETWALKER: “I tell you what, no more tequila for this bitch! Last time I drank that sh*t, the cops found me in the Memorial Hospital Maternity Ward trying to give Vice-Lord jail tattoos to the newborns!!!”

STREETWALKER: “Body shots? Sh*t, yeah! You should have SEEN how much Johnny Walker I was goin’ through when I was breastfeeding my triplets! Maybe that explains why their eyes kept rolling back in their damn heads!!”

Chad, a shop manager from Lowell asks: A lot of people say stuff like whiskey or tequila can make people act strangely. Is that really true? Heather, an EPA supervisor from East Chicago, asks: Have either of you ever heard of body shots? I overheard my teenage daughter talking about them and I’m wondering if I should be concerned.

WINO: “Good lord! Have you ever seen me struggle with “WhiskeyD*ck”?!? It’s like trying to lace up a new sneaker when you’re holding the damn rope three inches back from the tip!!!”

WINO: “Oh mama! Have you ever done a “Plinko Shot”? First you gotta get “buck-nay-nay” and have a buddy lay on the ground underneath you. Then, you pour Night Train on your beard and let that sh*t trickle back and forth through your chest hair and then finally off the tip of your bumrod into their mouth! Woo!!! That’s

The arrival of spring and warmer weather means we’ll soon be hearing the crack of the bat and the popping of leather as baseball season gets underway once again. The Cubs and White Sox have been in training camp since late February and the Major League Baseball season will get underway the first week of this month. And a month after the opening of the big league baseball season, the Gary South Shore RailCats , Northwest Indiana’s only professional team, will be starting their American Association season at US Steel Yard. Now in their 13th season, the RailCats have done the Region proud. After a rocky start in their first three seasons, the Cats have won three championships; two in the old Northern League (2005 & 2007) and one in the American Association (2013). Manager Greg Tagert begins his 10th campaign as the RailCats skipper, and under his guidance the Cats have never had a losing season. And with several veterans returning from a team that finished one game off the pace in their division

14 N WI E nte rtai ne r.co m • A PR 15

a year ago, 2015 looks to be a promising year. The RailCats will host their annual open tryout on May 2nd and hold their first practice on May 9th before the season begins on May 21st. And RailCat fans will have a chance to see that first workout on May 9th as part of the club’s new promotion: Baseball, Brews and Blues. The Cats have always drawn well since the opening of US Steel Yard and last year was no exception, as an average of 3,571 fans per game filed through the turnstiles. Besides good, solid baseball, one of the reasons for the great attendance the RailCats have enjoyed is the team’s unique promotions. Promotional gimmicks have always gone hand in hand with independent league baseball, and the RailCats have always been on the cutting edge with their promotional ideas. And Baseball, Brews and Blues ranks right up at the top of the list, putting fans in the ballpark for the first spring training workout on Saturday, May 9th. For $35, from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, more than

fifteen different craft beer brewers will be on hand for fans to sample while the 2015 RailCats go through their first workout at US Steel Yard. And not only will there baseball and brew, in addition the Planetary Blues Band will provide music to entertain the fans while they sample craft beer and watch baseball practice. Each fan will receive a souvenir sampling cup and unlimited beer samples throughout the afternoon. The RailCats are also offering a VIP experience for $60 from 1:00 pm till 2:00 pm that not only includes the general admission fare, but also includes Party Deck access, heavy hors d’oeuvres and five VIP only beer tastings. “We’re excited to host the inaugural Baseball, Brews and Blues promotion,” said Brian Lyter, General Manager of the RailCats. “It’s going to be a fun day and it’s a great way to kick off the baseball season.” “We’ll have lots of fun promotional stuff to give away and every fan that comes out for the fest will receive a free ticket to a RailCats

game for the 2015 season. Plus it’s a great way to get a first-hand look at the 2015 RailCats.” Some of the local brewers that will be on hand include 18th Street Brewery from Gary, and Figure Eight Brewing from Valparaiso; brewers of RailCat Pale Ale, which will once again be sold at the Steel Yard this summer. Other notable craft beer brewers scheduled to be on hand include Blue Moon Brewing Company, Rogue Ales, Brooklyn Brewery, Jacob Leinenkugel Brewing Company, Southern Tier Brewery and Upland Brewing Company, just to name a few. Fans interested in attending can buy tickets at the RailCats box office located at One Stadium Plaza in Gary from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm on Monday through Friday or by calling the team’s offices at 219-882-2255. Tickets are also available through the RailCats website at www.railcatsbaseball.com. Due to limited availability, VIP tickets are available only on a first come, first served basis.

BLAME THE DOG A guy goes to pick up his date for the evening. She’s not ready yet, so he has to sit in the living room with her parents. He has a bad case of gas and really needs to releive some pressure. Luckly, the family dog jumps up on the couch next to him. He decides that he can let a little fart out and if anyone notices they will think that the dog did it.

He farts, and the woman yells, “Spot, get down from there.” The guy thinks, “Great, they think the dog did it.” He releases another fart, and the woman again yells for the dog to get down. This goes on for a couple more farts. Finally the woman yells, “Dammit Spot, get down before he sh*ts on you.”

NWI Events By Daniel Anthony

There are brew fests and then there are brew fests. And then there is the Blue Chip Casino Brewfest. Back by popular demand, the annual Blue Chip Brewfest returns for the 5th consecutive year on Saturday, April 11th from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm at the Blue Chip Casino Hotel Spa in Michigan City. More than 250 brews from over 50 specialty breweries will be available for attendees to taste at the ultimate beer sampling event sponsored by Blue Chip. Some of the craft beer brewers on hand at the event will include Back Road, Burn ‘Em Brewing, Bulldog, Drewry’s, Four Fathers, Greenbush, Hunters, Iechyd Da, Shoreline, Round Barn, Great Lakes, Twisted K-8, Upland, New Belgium, Greenbush, New Holland and Bell’s. Because of the annual event’s popularity, there will be some changes this year. First, musical entertainment has been added to the bill as the Allen Wronko Band and the Zydeco Voodoo band will entertain patrons. Second, due to the growth of the fest over the years, the event will be held this year in the Stardust Event Center at Blue Chip and also in an adjacent climate-controlled event tent. And while enjoying the brew fest, patrons will also be able to contribute to a good cause as Blue Chip will be holding a silent auction during the event. Premium items such as a mini-fridge, coolers and other beer-themed collectibles will be available to bid on during the auction and all the proceeds will benefit the United Way of La Porte County. Blue Chip is offering three different ticket packages for the fest including the Brewmaster Package, a VIP Package and General Admission Package. For $99, the Brewmaster Package includes

a luncheon from noon to 1:00 pm in the Orleans Room with Tony Magee, the founder of Lagunitas Brewing. The menu will consist of different foods paired with various Lagunitas beers. The Brewmaster Package also includes a separate Indiana Beer Tour from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, access to the VIP tasting and the general admission tasting as well. Guests who purchase a Brewmaster Package will also receive a souvenir pint glass and tee-shirt. For $75, VIP Package ticket holders will receive early admission to the fest and can also attend the Indiana Beer Tour. The Indiana Beer Tour features unique beers from breweries located in Indiana. VIP patrons will also have access to the general admission tasting and a souvenir pint glass is included in the VIP Package as well. The cost of the General Admission Package is $45 and covers the main tasting event which runs from 1:30 pm to 5:00 pm. A souvenir pint glass is also included with a General Admission Package. With responsible drinking and safety in mind, Blue Chip is also offering a Designated Driver ticket for $15. Guests with Designated Driver tickets will receive complimentary specialty soda and water, but will not allowed to sample any alcoholic beer. During the brew fest, all of the Blue Chip Casino restaurants will be open. Food offerings available for purchase will include brats, hot dogs and pretzels. Tickets to the fest are available at www. ticketmaster.com or at the Blue Chip Gift Box in the casino pavilion. Guests must be 21 or older, with a valid state or government issued photo identification. For more information on the brew fest, visit www.bluechipcasino.com.

Club Bed -- PORTAGE Mishawaka MOODS

GIRLS NIGHT OUT Two women friends had gone out for a Girls Night Out, and had been decidedly over-enthusiastic on the cocktails. Incredibly drunk and walking home they suddenly realized they both needed to pee. They were very near a graveyard and one of them suggested they do their business behind a headstone or something. The first woman had nothing to wipe with so she took off her panties, used them and threw them away. Her friend however was wearing an expensive underwear set and didn’t want to ruin hers, but was lucky enough to salvage a large ribbon from a wreath that was on a grave and proceeded to wipe herself with it. After finishing, they made their way home. The next day the first woman’s husband phones the other husband and said, “These damn girls nights out have got to stop. My wife came home last night without her panties.” “That’s nothing,” said the other. “Mine came back with a sympathy card stuck between the cheeks of her butt that said, ‘From all of us at the Fire Station, Well never forget you!’

An Unfortunate Pirate A pirate walked into a bar and the bartender said, “Hey, I haven’t seen you in a while. What happened, you look terrible!”

“What do you mean? I’m fine.” “What about that wooden leg? You didn’t have that before.” “Well,” said the pirate, “We were in a battle at sea and a cannon ball hit my leg but the Doc fixed me up, and I’m fine, really.” “Oh yeah? Well what about that hook? The last time I saw you, you had both hands.” “We were in another battle and we boarded the enemy ship. I was in a sword fight and my hand was cut off but the Doc fixed me up with the hook, and I feel great, really.” “Oh,” said the bartender, “what about that eye patch? The last time you were in here you had both eyes.” “One day when we were at sea some birds were flying over the ship. I looked up and one of them crapped in my eye.” “You’re kidding,” said the bartender, “you couldn’t have lost an eye just from some bird crap!” “Well, I really wasn’t used to the hook yet.”

Alternate Uses for Vodka

and stimulates the growth of healthy hair.

1. To remove a bandage painlessly, saturate the bandage with vodka. The solvent dissolves the adhesive. 2. To clean the caulking around bathtubs and showers, fill a trigger-spray bottle with vodka, spray the caulking, let set five minutes and wash clean. The alcohol in the vodka kills mold and mildew. 3. To clean your eyeglasses, simply wipe the lenses with a soft, clean cloth dampened with vodka. The alcohol in the vodka cleans the glass and kills germs.

8. Fill a sixteen-ounce trigger-spray bottle and spray bees or wasps to kill them. 9. Pour one-half cup vodka and one-half cup water in a Ziplock freezer bag, and freeze for a slushy, refreshable ice pack for aches, pain, or black eyes. 10. Fill a clean, used mayonnaise jar with freshly packed lavender flowers, fill the jar with vodka, seal the lid tightly and set in the sun for three days. Strain liquid through a coffee filter then apply the tincture to aches and pains.

4. Prolong the life of razors by filling a cup with vodka and letting your safety razor blade soak in the alcohol after shaving. The vodka disinfects the blade and prevents rusting. 5. Spray vodka on vomit stains, scrub with a brush, then blot dry. 6. Using a cotton ball, apply vodka to your face as an astringent to cleanse the skin and tighten pores. 7. Add a jigger of vodka to a 12-ounce bottle of shampoo. The alcohol cleanses the scalp, removes toxins from hair,

Mother Daughter A mother is in the kitchen making dinner for her family when her daughter walks in. “Mother, where do babies come from?” The mother thinks for a few seconds and says, “Well dear, Mommy and Daddy fall in love and get married. One night they go into their bedroom, they kiss and hug, and have sex.” The daughter looks puzzled so the mother continues, “That means the daddy puts his penis in the mommy’s vagina. That’s how you get a baby, honey.” The child seems to comprehend. “Oh, I see, but the other night when I came into your room you had daddy’s penis in your mouth. What do you get when you do that?” “Jewelry, my dear. Jewelry.”

BUYING CONDOMS A young man goes into a drug store to buy condoms. The pharmacist says the condoms come in packs of 3, 9 or 12 and asks which the young man wants. “Well,” he said, “I’ve been seeing this girl for a while and she’s really hot. I want the condoms because I think tonight’s “the” night. We’re having dinner with her parents, and then we’re going out. And I’ve got a feeling I’m gonna get lucky after that. Once she’s had me, she’ll want me all the time, so you’d better give me the 12 pack.” The young man makes his purchase and leaves. Later that evening, he sits down to dinner with his girlfriend and her parents. He asks if he might give the blessing and they agree. He begins the prayer, but continues praying for several minutes. The girl leans over to him and says, “You never told me that you were such a religious person.” The boy leans over to her and whispers, “You never told me that your father is a pharmacist.”

Wallet A man is angry because he has it in his head that someone stole his wallet. He walks into a church to steal someone else’s wallet, but he has a change of heart during the service. He confesses to the priest afterwards about what his intentions had initially been. The priest asks, “What made you change your mind?” The man says, “In your sermon on the Ten Commandments when you got to ‘Thou shall not commit adultery,’ I remembered where I left my wallet!”

Dreams A woman was taking an afternoon nap. When she woke up, she told her husband, “I just dreamed that you gave me a pearl necklace. What do you think it means?” “You’ll know tonight,” he said. That evening, the man came home with a small package and gave it to his wife. Delighted, she opened it to find a book entitled “The Meaning of Dreams.”

Leaving Early

Club Bed - Mishawaka CHUCK & IRENE’S - HAMMOND

Three girls all worked in the same office with the same female boss. Each day, they noticed the boss left work early. One day, the girls decided that, when the boss left, they would leave right behind her. After all, she never called or came back to work, so how would she know they went home early? The brunette was thrilled to be home early. She did a little gardening, spent playtime with her son, and went to bed early. The redhead was elated to be able to get in a quick workout at the spa before meeting a dinner date. The blonde was happy to get home early and surprise her husband, but when she got to her bedroom, she heard a muffled noise from inside. Slowly and quietly, she cracked open the door and was mortified to see her husband in bed with her boss! Gently, she closed the door and crept out of her house. The next day, at their coffee break, the brunette and redhead planned to leave early again, and they asked the blonde if she was going to go with them. “No way,” the blonde exclaimed. “I almost got caught yesterday!”
