Imperial Oil says that Kearl gross bitumen production continues to ramp up. Production was impacted during the fourth quarter by harsh winter weather and equipment reliability issues that are being addressed. Production rates of 100,000 barrels per day have been reached, and ongoing activities to stabilize performance at these higher levels are progressing. The Kearl expansion project was 72 per cent complete at year-end and remains on target for a 2015 start-up.

Updated: Mar 2014
Connacher says that full-year 2013 production averaged 11,783 barrels per day (2012 was 11,881 barrels per day). Production was slightly below 2012 as the impact of its 2013 capital program wasn’t realized until the fourth quarter of 2013. 2013 fourth-quarter production was lower due to scheduled interruptions during the commissioning of new well pairs and a temporary reduction in natural gas supply in northern Alberta. Preventative maintenance was advanced and performed during the fourth quarter of 2013 and also reduced production. Actual Great Divide production averaged 13,661 barrels per day for the first two months of 2014. Pod One

Updated: Mar 2014
Laricina says it continues start-up operations as select wells are converted from steam to production. Operations and facilities have normalized after a third-party pipeline break in fall 2013 resulted in a stoppage in steaming and start-up, followed by a plant upset. As a result of the interruptions, the benefit of the steam previously injected to heat the reservoir was mostly lost, delaying ramp-up. The reservoir is once again responding as expected, and bitumen production is starting to ramp up from the initial wells. Phase 1 CDP

Extreme-temperature environments require extremely reliable ESPs. Selecting the right ESP system to handle the high temperatures and abrasive conditions of a SAGD well is essential to efficient thermal recovery. REDA Hotline ESPs have a proven history of success in Canada and now help produce more SAGD oil than all other artificial lift methods combined. The thirdgeneration HotlineSA3 ESP system carries on this tradition, introducing a unique system architecture designed to increase ESP run life, reduce installation time, and operate in wells up to 250 degC. Laricina says the pilot continues to provide a road map for Saleski Phase 1. Recently the company drilled a 700-metre sidetrack well in the Grosmont C zone that is currently in the first simultaneous steam injection and production cycle in the two Grosmont C zone wells testing block steaming and production. In the Grosmont D zone, an application was approved to drill a new well intended to progress the recovery process and optimize production. Experimental Pilot
