CONTENT 1.BATH MONTAGE ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------01
In this portfolio, I look into the possibility of multifunctional architecture. In general, multi-functional building contains a large amount of functions, mixed-used spaces that create a complex system. Multifunctional building allows to use the urban space in a more efficient and compact way. People nowadays want to experience more in one single architecture. The Bath montage project is the hybrid of bath and museum, seeking to better express Turkish culture by allowing people to truly experience it in person. The Book Tower Project looks into the possibility of the new era library in which traditional library space is embedded with digital technology and as a result, new functional space is created. The linked hybrid project is about a residential complex which is connected by loops, creating public activity space in between private space on the same time. The Campus Complex looks into the problem of the limited land use inside the campus and try to solve them by putting it on top of the bridge which is a crucial traffic spot in campus. The multiple layer is the hybrid of working and housing, al-lowing the users to work and relax at the same time.

The Turkish Bath is an essential element in turkish culture. Turkey is a nation straddling eastern Europe and western Asia with cultural connections to ancient Greek, Persian, Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman empires.A Turkish bath is a place of public bathing associated with the culture of the Ottoman Empire and more widely the Islamic world. The particular bathing process roughly parallels ancient Roman bathing practices. It starts with relaxation in a room heated by a continuous flow of hot, dry air, allowing the bather to perspire freely. Bathers may then move to an even hotter room before they wash in cold water. After performing a full body wash and receiving a massage, bathers finally retire to the cooling-room for a period of relaxation. The turkish bath played an important role in the social activities. It is a place where people can meet in groups and talk about political events. As for now, the bath evolved into a tourish attraction where people come to experience the turkish culture. Personal Contribution: Conceptual Design, Project Design,Analysis Diagram Drawing, Render Image Drawing,Model Photo Making.

Turkish Bath
Roma Bathing played a major part in ancient Roman culture and society. It was one of the most common daily activities, and was practiced across a wide variety of social classes.
Turkish bath is a place of public bathing associated with the culture of the Ottoman Empire and more widely the Islamic world. Turkish baths focus on the water and it is used as a method of cleaning and relaxation.
These ruins were constructed with huge stone blocks without the use of cement and consisted of various closed or open sections linked together.

S Debate
The Antique Pool is nowadays a modern spa complex with a thermal pool that is open to the public. Lush greenery surrounds the pool giving it an amazing atmosphere.
Entertainment
The Romans raised bathing to a high art as they socialized in these communal baths. Debate is one of the typical political activity in bath
Nowadays, bath is popular among tourists and is treated as a mean of entertainment.
Intro Turkish bath takes its root in roman bathing culture. The design is based on turkish bathing culture. We try to create the bath space for social activities and entertainment as way to evoke turkish historical culture. Turkish culture is a hybrid of roman culture and islamic culture, in another word, it is embracing both the east and the west. If you take a stroll inside a turkish bath, you will witness the architectural elements with diverse background.

Pamukkale, meaning "cotton castle" in Turkish, is a natural site in Denizli in southwestern Turkey. The area is famous for a carbonate mineral left by the flowing water. It is located in Turkey's Inner Aegean region, in the River Menderes valley, which has a temperate climate for most of the year. The ancient Greco-Roman city of Hierapolis was built on top of the white "castle" which is in total about 2,700 metres long, 600 m wide and 160 m high. It can be seen from the hills on the opposite side of the valley in the town of Denizli, 20 km away.Known as Pamukkale (Cotton Castle) or ancient Hierapolis (Holy City), this area has been drawing the weary to its thermal springs since the time of Classical antiquity. The Turkish name refers to the surface of the shimmering, snow-white limestone, shaped over millennia by calcium-rich springs. Dripping slowly down the vast mountainside, mineral-rich waters foam and collect in terraces, spilling over cascades of stalactites into milky pools below. Legend has it that the formations are solidified cotton that giants left out to dry.

SPACE SYNTAX The design of the bath space is based on the space analysis of Caracalla Bath.In general, the core part of the bath is the sequence of the bath starting from cold , warm to hot. The two side of the bath is attached with additional function such as wrestling and library which is also a vital part of bath activity. The newly designed turkish bath share the fundamental space composition with Caracalla Bath ,above that, a new idea is introduced which is combining the bath with museum.

SPACE COMPSITION
The bath is divided into five main sections. The different function makes up different portions of the bath complex. Each portion of the space has its own logic of roof formation indicating its individuality.Every single roof is supported by the rib inside the roof. The exposed rib reveals its inner structural system.
BATH
The bath is the main part of the complex. When justaposed with museum, it create both a strong visual connection and space interaction with the museum so that the idea of combining bath and museum is clearly expressed
ENTRANCE
The entrance itself is a public space as it encompassed a variety of public activities such as restaurants tea house. Meanwhile, it served as a pivot of the complex because tourists have the freedom to choose whether they want to go the bath or the exhibiton and museum when they are inside the space
ADMINISTRATION The administration provide services not only for the museums which contain treasured ruins, but also for the surrounding historical site such as the amphi-theature

Warsaw is the capital and the biggest city in Poland. The metropolis stands on the Vistula River in east-central Poland and its population is officially estimated at 1.78 million residents within a greater metropolitan area of 3.1 million residents, which makes Warsaw the 8th most-populous capital city in the European Union. In the meanwhile, In 2017 the Warsaw came 4th in the “Business-friendly” category and 8th in “Human capital and life style”. The city is a significant center of research and development, Business process outsourcing, Information technology outsourcing, as well as of the Polish media industry. Many libraries in the Near East and Egypt were attached to sacred temple sites or were part of an administrative or royal archive, while in the Greek and Roman worlds these types continued but private collections became much more common, too. Libraries began to offer more than just books in the Roman period, with lectures put on, orators invited to impress, and intellectuals gathering to discuss matters with fellow visitors in the tranquility of the library audience hall or garden.Until 18th century, Boullee executed the meaning of library which was the first architectural treatise to focus exclusively on public monument. His definition of the monument distinguished public from private. The library is a monument to “science”. Boullee’s public monuments shared an architectural language based on the composition of anonymous and simple geometrical volumes. And what should be the next generation? III. TERRITORIAL
10.0 TRADITIONAL LIBRARY Books is a medium of self learning in the form of written media that preserve history, fiction, art, and science. Books are main elements, composing the traditional library. The learning method become mono-direction to link with the only source. The creation of library was initiated with the need of documenting information, knowledge and history. It acted as the “data center” of ancient times that consisted a collection of books, manuscripts etc.
INTERNET AGE The internet break down the learning method. The public is transfered, when we could choose faster approach to get information. Meanwhile, the information also become diverse. Our life are flooded with information. It accommodated other public facilities on demand and began acting as a social responsibility within the society itself.
SOCIAL LIBRARY The gene of the new library is to stimulate the communication with public. The source should be more diverse, more Interlaced. The spatial zones to acquire this knowledge is yet to receive an update on a larger scale. Library has in a way become a public building wanted by everyone, thus the public interest is reinfoced. Everybody with the knowledge to share could perform in the space which is open to the public. The new role of the library will become the vital think tank of the city.

The BABEL TOWER The descendants of Noah were living in the area of Mesopotami in Babylon. They settled in a land named Shinar. The population was growing and they all spoke one language. The people decided to build a tall, proud symbol of how great they had made their nation. The Babylonians wanted a tower that would “reach to the heavens” so that they could be like God and they would not need him. They began to construct a great ziggurat. God did not like the pride and arrogance in the hearts of the people. God caused the people to suddenly speak different languages so they could not communicate and work together to build the tower. This caused the people to scatter across the land. The tower was named The Tower of Babel. The completion of babel tower articulate the way of communication. The communication and cooperation become the essence embedded into the tower.

Kinetic Facade Design
A kinetic facade is one that changes dynamically rather than being static or fixed, allowing movement to occur on a building’s surface. It can be used to manage light, air, energy, and even information. They can act to reduce solar gain as well as allowing the passage of fresh air into the building, helping to alter the interior environment. The moving elements of the facade can be programmed to respond to climatic or other environmental factors, time, levels and type of occupancy and so on to improve performance and efficiency. First, we use ladybug to analysis the radiation in order to prove that there is a necessity that we need to use the kinetic facade in our building. And we implement the use of kinetic facade in all the private space. The simulation result shows that the southern face of the facade is exposed with the most sunlight which gives justification to the question why we are building this facade .The facade is based on the shape of trianle and each panel is composed by the centroid of the triangle and one of its angle so that the kinetic facade can provide visual impact and aesthetics feelings to people. The moving elements of the facade can be programmed to respond to climatic or other environmental factors, time, levels and type of occupancy and so on to improve performance and efficiency.

Affordable Housing has been a heated issue for years. How do we provide housing for people in need and how to ensure that they can live comfortably inside are questions that are need to be solved by architects. In this case, we are implementing multifunctional space into a building, using birdge to connect separate areas, forging a connection between public and private. The birdge itself not only create the connection but also divide the court yard into different functions and gives meanings to different yard. Also we are using an artistic method to approach space forming. We are analysing the site and extract essential information from site to see how different information and clues could be combined and push the concept of design. We are using the idea from Anni Albers weaving strategy and her "transparency theory" to design the whole project.

The Site is located on the north-western side of the city center. The site is around 3.4 kilometers to the city center. It is beside one of the major road in Charlotte. On the north side, it will lead people to Ashville, which is one of the major city in North Carolina, with rich economy and magnificent natural landscape resources. Given the fact that charlotte is the fanancial center of the entire U.S, charlotte is at a very position which has a easy access to South Carolina and Raleigh. Raleigh and Charlotte are the two largest city in North Carolina, as a result, there are tons of people travelling between this two cities. This avenue connects both the city and the two provinces. In general, the site has a great advantage when it comes to the traffic. For more people who living in afforadble housing, they need to save more time on traffic because they need to spend more time on doing their job.
The site has a very pleasant environment. On the north-western side of the mountain there is a high hill and on the north side there is a railway going on top of the hill. As a result, people who travelling on the rail may have a pleasant view over the site. And on the eastern side of the site, there are plenty of residential housing and most of the housing are independent traditional american housing. So we may think about the future site might provide public activities to the surrounding site. On the South of the site is a natural park with a water pool inside the park. We can get an idea that people who live in the future housing will have a pleasant view in front of them. On the western side of the side there is a tradional industrial park. However, most of them are abondoned and have few activities. However, with the appearance of a new affordable housing, we might be able to make this place more lively.

Besides surface qualities, such as rough and smooth, dull and shiny, hard and soft, textiles also includes colour, and, as the dominating element, texture, which is the result of the construction of weaves. Like any craft it may end in producing useful objects, or it may rise to the level of art. — Anni Albers, On Designing

At the first we observe the topography line and we draw several lines that best describe the tendency of the topography line.
We extend the tendency line and offset them. The line we get from the site is the summary of all the topography line.
3
4
We notice that the rows of houses form a strong site context and we extend the row of houses to see how these lines might cut the original stripes.
We hatch the intersections of the topography system and houses system. And we notice there are there are several important spot on the site that might create important view, one is the church, the second is from road and the thrid is from rail. We draw the line view to see the sight line might interrupt with the previous line drawing.
5
6
We hatch the intersection of all these line, and we notice that there are there two systems combined together and they create gardens of different areas.
We use Anni Alber's theory to trim the space volumn based on the transparency and divide both the interior space and exterior space into different functions.

Campus Complex 04
Architecture Design Individual Work Category: Academic Work Time: 2018.03-2018.05 Tutor: Ying Hu Location: Suzhou_China
The site is located in Suzhou University, where the east campus and the west campus are interrupted by a river. They are, however, connected by a bridge. We notice that the bridge is an essential part of the entire campus and the most popular traffic tool is the bike. We figure out that there are several hot spots along the biking system. So we are thinking about adding another hot spot on this route, which is a residential complex. The position of the site is located in the middle of the campus which gives convinience for access to the campus facilities. The bikes can stop by to get inside the complex. The complex itself is a hybrid of office, library, garden and residential housing. When people get through the complex on the bridge, they get the sense of the atmosphere of the entire complex.

First, we add the bike ramp to the bridge to enable the bikers to get into the side and they are welcomed by the underground parking system.
Glazing panels are added to the bridge to prevent sound noise to the future complex, on another hand, it create a physical boder but allow visual contact on the same time.

We start to add the library layer to the complex on top of the parking. We use the slope to connect the platform on different heights so that people are gradually getting higher.
The working office layer is added on top of the library. The space form of the office has an atrim in the middle which allows visual contact between both people in the bridge and the office

The cinema is added inside the working office so that the limited space inside could be fully used. The cinema itself served as the vertical transportation to bring people to different floors.
The colomuns are added to the complex with the dimension of 6m x7m.The vertical elevators are embedded to bring convience to the disabled.

The garden was on top of the office layer to create the exterior experience for people inside the complex.
The 4-floor residential housing unit is on top of the whole complex to provide excellent view for people inside the building.

Residential Housing Climate Strategy:
It has been a demanding requirement that all architecture should become eco-friendly and reach the goal of low energy consumption. First, we do a ladybug analysis to see how the radiation might affect the building, thus we implement solar panel and shading devices to reduce energy consumption int the building. Also the building design itself has a chimeney effect which automatically allows the air to flow out.Other strategies include anti-noise panel and convected wind.
