In this project, idea of “MOVEMENT� is linked through form and space. With wings as motif of the design, the scuplture form represents a rapid progression of a flying bird disappearing into the horizon. the project is about the practice of developing form of buildings with justifications, and the frabrication experience of buiding a 1:1 model considering construction details.

The Pavilion sits on the open grass oval between STV and the lake of University of Bath. It is a temporary cafe pavilion to be constructed mainly with metal and glass. Orientation, views, immediate context and construction details are taken into account during the designing process, aiming for a realistic and successful scheme

The aim of the project is to design a house which provides both “live” and “work” space. The client couples wish to live in a modern house which encapsulates a certain type of 21st century living - an ideal to strive towards a simpler life devoid of the distractions of the modern age, but heightened by the quality of the materials and space. The proposed design is a masonry house that not only has pleasant exterior view but also practical interior space - it to integrates with the surrounding context and provides appropriate living space within a narrow site with a floor area limit of 200m2.

The community pavilion is designed in the style of the famous architect, John lautner. By studying and analysing Lautner’s architexture, his design concepts, forms and materials are imitated throughout this project. The proposed building is a large centre for gathering people from the local community, providing neccessary facilities and alternative places for relaxing from work. Connection is the main concept of the design. For instance, connection of spaces with flexible circulation and access, conncetion in shading and lighting of both interior and exterior by introduing skylight.

South Section 1:150 The grassland immediately behind the mathematical science building is chosen as a location for building a new doctors surgery. It will replace the existing doctors surgery at SW of the univesrity of Bath, thus it has to maintain the exisiting service standards with optimun area and partitions for different purposes, for instance consulting area and waiting area. The building design responds to surrouding context and use them to the best advantage for the given biulding type, ultimately provides a pleasant experience for patients, doctors and visitors both practicably and visually.

The Bristol Aviation Museum is designed to sit on the water-front of Bristol Floating Harbor. The building is well designed in purpose, environmental aspect and in detail. It defines the new face of Bristol Floating Harbor and brings new life to the city’s tourism and culture.

The scheme is named “The Fifth Season� - an entertainment center of 2200 meter sq. coverage aiming to complete the RDM campus ecosystem in Rotterdam, where local people and visitors will find it enjoyable and relaxing, far away from normal working seasons. As a combination of a maritime museum and an auditorium. The museum of the Fifth Season houses a permanent collection of RDM-site as a former shipyard, while the auditorium hosts various events ranging from concerts to orchestras. Both the interior and exterior spaces are designed to be a mix of contemporary and convention, so satisfying both first time and frequent visitors. For instance, the auditorium ceiling is alternately arrayed with PV-cells and double-sided LCD panels, so it functions as a huge LCD screen facing either outwards or inwards, self-powered by solar radiation collected during the day. The Fifth Season is fully embedded into the RDM network: from the sustainable park to land of RDM-campus straight though a public passage inside the building, and from Lusthof to SEPAC through dedicated bridges and public landscapes(a total of 4000 meter sq. coverage). The Fifth Season, together with SEPAC and a fully accessible network, completes the active and passive entertainment circle, right in the water center of RDM campus.

In the pass few decades, cites of fast growing countries or those that suffer from war destructions have strong desires of development. Such development boom often results in building lack of long-term consideration in climatic control and sustainability. As a post-war contemporary city, Rotterdam is one of the kinds. With the current architectural focus of buildings shifting from aesthetics to sustainability, climatic controls of contemporary buildings should no longer be overlooked. A fragment of Pathé Schouwburgplein in Rotterdam is chosen to study the theoretical feasibility of improving underperforming existing building with implementation of a solar gain sunspace to the façades. Standing for only 20 years, the contemporary Pathé already faces poor climatic and architectural problems. With references to precedents of excellent climatic performance and efficiency, it is put into comparison alongside, analyzed and then improved in 3 major aspects: heating, ventilation and material. The redesign proposal eventually contributes to answering the question of whether an existing building can be enhanced with similar redesign strategies. Although the theoretical redesign might be costly at the present stage with inclusion of relatively new materials and non-mainstream construction procedures, it poses a new possibility to building redesign, and suggests future goals for improving building technology. Besides climate, sustainability and embedded structure, other details as building planning and context involvement are critically addressed to achieve a realistic redesign.

Design Concept
As bidder for Hong Kong Disneyland’s Administration Building Project, David S.K. Au & Associates was to submit a fee and technical proposal for the Architectural and Associated Consultancy Services for the design and project administration of Hong Kong Disneyland Back of House Administration Building. The building is designed to be a working place that connects people, where friendship blossoms - as symbolized by an external footbridge linking to the adminstration building 1, and a featured sky bridge running across the interior space. The curvalinear partitionings and circulation brings a playful experience as opposed to long corridors. Being an architectural assistant, I was in charge of developing the project architect’s concept to produce photo-realistic interior and exterior perspectives, and compiling presentation slides for the competition submission. 2nd Floor Rendering

This cinema design is inspired by “pixels”, the basic pictorial element of films. The theme is also an abstract representation of the diverse demography of shoppers at Olympian City - residents around the neighborhood, white collars, tourists and students from polytechnic university.

The Entrance Lobby consists of a ticketing office, e-ticketing collection booths, a bar and a lounge area. Durable material such as wood, mirror, homogeneous tiles, stainless steel and glass are used. The shimmer mosaic floor tiles will add an elegant touch to the space, carrying he theme of “Pixelated Volume” throughout the corridor and houses.

Our practice was to provide architectural planning consultancy service for Interior design of the Gloucester project. The building consists of 45 stories, including apartment units, public spaces, GYM, swimming pool and lobbies, all of which our practice was responsible for preparing tender documentations, supervising construction in cooperation with AB Concept Ltd.
GYM
Having worked on the project for almost an entire year, the Gloucester is the only project I have ever participated for such a long duration, covering work stages ranging from design concept to tender documentation, construction to post practical completion. I was also responsible for taking shots of the completed building interior spaces to be featured in project’s post-completion presentation and the practice’s portfolio pages. Given the opportunity to work through a wide range of project work stages on one single project, the Gloucester project gained me a whole picture of the standard procedures on local architectural project, both in design and management.

Design Development
I was immediately assigned to the project team on my first day of return to the practice, taking on responsibilities of proposing a complete elevation design option for the Lei Garden Food Factory alongside the other design option to be proposed by an architect. Project scope covered consultancy service over interior planning for renovating the existing 4-storey building into a factory for Chinese food preparation. The project was classified as Additions & Alterations work, due to client’s additional request of elevation redesign. The design process took over two months, including building a 3D model of the existing building, for form and space study purposes, translating ideas into 2D CAD drafting, later proceeding to 3D modelling and realistic renderings. The ultimate design had gone through several iterative amendments, based on feedback from client, director and colleagues.

The opportunity of taking charge of a design and attending project presentation made the project a remarkable learning experience during my placement. The former allowed me to apply what I learned during Erasmus Exchange at TU Delft into the design development - the incorporation of Rhino Grasshopper parametric scripting into practical design use. Parametric scripting enabled a more efficient workflow comparing to traditional design methods, especially when the elevation design was built upon iterative revisions.

Design Development
The project is a redevelopment of an existing mixed residential and commercial building to a completely commercial mall. Client made the decision of only re-planning interior but leaving existing facade intact to avoid project being classified as Addition & Alteration work by HK Building Department, therefore preventing further setback from site boundary. This posed huge structural constraints to the project development, as the original building was built mostly for residential use, with 3-meter floor height, thin floor slabs and inefficient structural columns, present building structure is conceded to be insufficient for switching to commercial use by both architects and structural engineers of our practice. Two planning options were therefore proposed - one to be planned in accordance to client’s tight budget, another to be planned with a major overhaul in internal structure, keeping the exterior intact. I participated in designing both options, with minor additions to the elevations to feature circulation spaces of the building. It was my first time taking part in interior planning, where I found stairs planning to be the most intricate, especially when the building has a relatively narrow boundary with dominant circulation space. This was when I found the need of studying and familiarizing myself with HK building regulations - to make sure that my design was legally feasible, in addition to paying detail attentions to fire escape staircases. Attended CPDs on BIM design with Autodesk Revit during the first three months of my placement period, I was able to carry on my 2D CAD planning across to 3D space of Revit for higher efficiency thanks to BIM parameters. Design Development
This was the project which I had been working on during my first period of placement, when our practice was competing for the land at Yuen Long Industrial Estate, when plannings were still conceptual. By the time I joined the team again, the project was mostly complete - with finalized interior plannings and zoning. My mission was to design the very last but certainly not the least element - the elevations. The client requested 3 elevation design options - each to be designed by an architect, an architectural assistant and me respectively. Revit again played a huge role in the design development. Unlike the Lan Fong Road project where BIM served mainly a planning tool, it allowed me to quickly build a comprehensive 3D model with referenced CAD plans, keeping track of the integrity of interior planning and exterior elevation design at all times. Though finalized plans meant fewer overhaul during the elevation design progress, it also brought along more constraints due to fixed wall thickness, column and window placements. Besides utilizing BIM in Revit, Rhino Grasshopper came in handy for generating randomized ostentatious patterns for design visualization. The Rhino model and Revit model were then brought together in Keyshot by matching XYZ coordinates, and eventually producing renderings. A total of four elevation renderings and three exterior two-point perspectives for each design option were rendered to be presented to client.
