WELCOME TO AMERICA’S

NO. 1 COLLEGE TOWN. WELCOME TO K-STATE! On behalf of K-State interim President General Richard Myers and the entire K-State Athletics Family, welcome to America’s No. 1 college town and the oldest land-grant university in the country. The pages of this brochure are meant to serve as a useful “Guide to K-State and Manhattan” as you become more familiar with getting to and staying in our wonderful community. American Airlines has non-stop daily jet service directly into Manhattan from Dallas-Fort Worth and Chicago, our thriving Aggieville and downtown entertainment districts offer fun and fellowship, and the experience you will have in the Little Apple will surely affirm why it is not only the No. 1 college town in the country but also one of the best places to live, raise a family and even retire. With our university leadership and 2025 vision to propel K-State to among the top 50 public research universities in the country and an avid fan base that continually fills all of our stadiums in support of our student-athletes, there is no better time to be a Wildcat. I hope you find this guide helpful, and please let us know if we can be of further assistance. Go Cats!

THE FINEST LAND-GRANT INSTITUTION IN THE NATION. The quality of a K-State education can be found both in the achievements of its students and by the accolades of its faculty. In the last 25 years, K-State has won more Rhodes, Marshall, Truman, Goldwater and Udall scholarships than any other public university in the United States. K-State trails only 5 private institutions in top scholarship awards (Harvard, Yale, Stanford, Princeton, and Duke). K-State is also the only research university in the country to have three national CASE/ Carnegie professors of the year. All three are active teachers: Michael Wesch, 2008 national winner; Chris Sorensen, 2007 national winner; and Dean Zollman, 1996 national winner. With such a reputation for excellence, it’s no surprise that K-State’s enrollment is surging. More Kansas high school seniors choose K-State than any other university in the state. Every county in the state, every state in the nation and countries around the world are represented by students attending K-State.
