ESTATE NEWS HH Dear Heritage Hill Residents, We are in the middle of quite a cold winter but it won’t be long before this season will be in the past. Time really flies and we are all looking forward to a lovely spring.

Letter from the

Estate Manager

The Rose Garden was pruned and will be ready for the summer season with roses blooming. We are also in the process of doing some much needed maintenance to most of our parks and should be done by the time this newsletter reaches you. On the gardening note we would like to inform all our residents of the new watering times for gardens as given by the City of Tshwane. No watering may take place between 10:00 and 14:00. We are still reminded not to use garden

hoses to wash our cars - please inform your employees of these rules and let’s continue to use this source sparingly. Since we experienced a very nasty incident at our residents’ in boom, security has been on the foreground. The board decided to implement some changes to our entrance lane from Brakfontein Road down towards the security gates. You would have noticed the bollards we planted in the middle of the road; this was done to make it more difficult for perpetrators to make a getaway. The plan is not to box them in but to try and discourage them from choosing our Estate to stage their criminal acts as we are aware that they come and scout the area before planning their activities. Further up our entrance road we are also installing a new set of one-way road spikes that will allow incoming vehicles in but will not allow for a getaway vehicle to drive off without being severely damaged.

Issue 4 | 2018 | Heritage Hill Estate 5

HH ESTATE NEWS This area can be seen as a safe area just outside our gates. There will also be a drop off zone just outside of the contractors exit on the left where parents can safely drop their kids off for the pickup school busses. An additional speedbump was installed to try and calm the traffic flow into our entrance area as well as very strong floodlights. The board always puts the security of our residents above all else.

It is with great sadness that we heard one of our residents, John Waugh passed away on 18 July. John and his wife, Barbara have been living in the village since 2014. Our deepest condolences to Barbara, their children and grandchildren. Issue 4 | 2018 | Heritage Hill Estate 6

Kind regards

Fred Botes

TEAL & GREY MINIMALIST BEAUTY

To me, nothing says ‘cosy winter’ more than a bit of soft fluffy blanket goodness and rich, warm tones. But can we do the comfy cosy thing and still keep to a minimalist style? The misconception many have is that minimalist space design is cold and hard. But that is not true at all. Minimalism by definition is a style that uses a small amount of simple items to create a specific effect. Having said that, it is easy to create a warm, comforting environment with a few key items and not clutter up your space unnecessarily, in the quest of making it cosy.

Issue 4 | 2018 | Heritage Hill Estate 12

My go-to favourites this winter have been rich, warm teal and my staple favourite ... grey. The light grey accents ensure that you are not creating a dark moody space, which you could do if you combined it with dark wooden furniture (if this is your preference). However, to keep the space light and airy (which is a minimalist lovers’ dream), I recommend using lighter tones and shades of grey. Combining different textures in your fabrics and keeping to simple tones ensure that you won’t overpower your senses, yet still keep it interesting to the eye. Use a striking headboard in a rich velvety fabric as your focal point of your space. Pair

this with plain linen and textured scatter cushions to create a little drama. Keep your decor items simple with neutral tones, and if you need a little more “oomph”, add an interesting rug to tie it all together.

I hope you have fun creating your cosy sanctuary to help get you through the last bit of winter! As we head into spring, keep a look out for next month’s Mood Board! Ideas for your home & a lovely spring party will be coming up.

Yours in design & style Lee xox

Reasons to buy original fine art

Decorating a home is an exciting and on-going project and choosing the right wall hanging to complement your space and style is perhaps one of the most thrilling of the process. Issue 4 | 2018 | Heritage Hill Estate 30

W

DÉCOR ESTATE & LIFESTYLE NEWS HH

hile there is a time and place for limited edition and fine art prints, it is always a good idea to look at buying original first, and here’s why:

1. It doesn’t have to cost a small fortune – It is a misconception that only very expensive artworks by wellknow artist are worth investing in. As the popular saying goes, “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder”, and so also is art. Browse the internet, flea markets, art fairs etc. for paintings by up and coming artists that you adore. 2. You’ll be supporting an artist’s livelihood – Imagine how boring the world would have been if everyone worked in the same industry?! The creative industry is extremely undervalued and artists need support from the community to continue doing what they do. 3. It’s unique – With the vast amount of things that are massproduced, it is nice to know you own something unique and oneof-a-kind. It makes it even more valuable. 4. Inspire conversation and thought – Original fine artworks convey a unique story. Not only the story the artist aimed to tell (and how others interpret it), but also the story of how you came to acquire the painting. 5. It is an investment – Original fine artworks become more valuable as time goes by. While this shouldn’t be your main outlook when looking to decorate a wall with art, it is definitely nice to know.

It was a beautiful sunny day with plenty of delicious food to share with neighbours and friends. The live entertainment added the perfect touch to a joyful family celebration. As always, the selection of delicious savoury and sweet dishes were bountiful and a true indication of the versatility of the humble lemon. Creative dishes such as fish and chicken casseroles, pasta salads, lemon glazed pork ribs and Knysna Mussels were a real treat as a Sunday feast. Villagers were spoilt for choice when it came to desserts. There were delicious pancakes, lemon brownies, tarts and cupcakes, lemon condensed milk cake, fudge and a scrumptious Lemon Poppy loaf. There was even a jug of freshly squeezed lemonade. What more could anyone ask for?

Eating, drinking, relaxing and just enjoying the lovely surroundings with beautiful live music, was definitely the biggest treat of the day and what fun was had by all. The best thing about the Lemon Festival each year, is the knowledge that spring is around the corner and soon the Village will be lit up with all the joys that the new season brings. Be sure to join us next year for a relaxing Sunday celebration. It’s where old friends gather, and new ones are made‌ in celebration of the humble lemon.
