The Hills Estate HOA: Celebrating a Year of Progress in 2024

2024 has been a landmark year for The Hills Estate HOA, brimming with exciting projects and community enhancements that reflect our unwavering commitment to creating a safe, beautiful, and harmonious living environment.

Advancing Access and Security

We began the year with an innovative upgrade, transitioning from finger biometrics to wave readers at our entrances. This seamless change enhanced convenience, security, and efficiency—thanks to the incredible cooperation of our residents.

Enriching Our Game Reserve

Our Game Reserve received special attention this year, with the installation of educational animal signs along the walking paths. These beautifully designed signs showcase images and fascinating facts about our wildlife, elevating outdoor experiences for residents while fostering a deeper connection to nature. To preserve the area’s pristine beauty, we also added

strategically placed dustbins, significantly reducing litter throughout the estate.

Connecting Communities

The new walkway along Royal Albatross, stretching from Hillstead North to the Atterbury Gate, is a stunning addition to our estate. Lined with freshly planted trees, this scenic path promises a shaded retreat for leisurely strolls in the future. To further enhance walkability, we illuminated the pathway connecting Kingfisher Street to Hillstead South, creating a safe and inviting space for evening walks.

Strengthening Our Community Features

This year also brought updates to key community amenities. Our tennis courts were refurbished, the gatehouse was revitalized with fresh paint, and the construction gate underwent a transformation, reducing its size and unveiling a lush green space that adds to the estate’s charm.

A New Online Hub

We proudly launched a new website— www.thehillsgamereserve.co.za—a onestop shop for all estate information, from documentation to updates, making it easier than ever to stay connected.

Enhanced Gym and Restaurant Spaces

Both the Gym and Restaurant received facelifts, including fresh paint, new doors, and a wave reader system at the Gym entrance for added security. We also upgraded the gym equipment and installed new cameras, ensuring a modern and secure experience for all users.

Playtime for Little Ones

We installed a vibrant jungle gym along Royal Albatross Road, near the walkway leading into the Game Reserve. It’s been heartwarming to see children embracing this new play area with joy and laughter.

Prioritizing Safety

Speed humps and a pedestrian crossing were added on Royal Albatross near the Atterbury Gate to curb speeding and create a safer environment for pedestrians and cyclists—a change already making a positive impact.

Looking Ahead

As we wrap up a remarkable year of growth and progress, we extend our heartfelt thanks to every resident who contributed to making these achievements possible. Your support and cooperation fuel our vision of an exceptional community.

Season’s Greetings from The Hills HOA

As we approach the holiday season, we wish all our residents a joyous and restful time with loved ones. For those traveling, may your journeys be safe and smooth. Thank you for being an integral part of The Hills community, and here’s to a prosperous 2025 filled with even greater milestones!

We are thrilled to announce that two of our security guards have earned certifications from Drum Beat Academy! Edward Moloka Hamese successfully completed his certification in Snake Identification, while Chuene Jackson Montja achieved his certification in Dangerous Snake Handling.

Wildlife Treasure Hunt Adventure: Thank

You for

Joining the Fun!

In our previous magazine issue, we launched an exciting treasure hunt competition exclusively for kids, and the response was fantastic! The challenge was simple yet thrilling: find the hidden token marked with an X on the back of one of our wildlife signs in the Reserve. We are thrilled to announce our winner: Koshik Gounder, age 10, who was the first to find the hidden token.

Congratulations, Koshik!

As the winner, Koshik has earned Two Anytime Mega Mania Passes to Bounce, perfect for an energetic outing with a friend. To join the adventure, participants explored the Reserve to find the wildlife signs, looked closely to uncover the hidden token behind one of them, and captured a photo showing the token and the sign it was on.

A heartfelt thank you to all the kids who participated and made this treasure hunt a great success. It’s inspiring to see the spirit of adventure and exploration alive in our young residents. Keep an eye out for future competitions in upcoming issues—you never know what exciting adventures await!

Its collection of carriages, many sourced from Europe and South Africa, is a testament to its rich heritage. These treasures, along with five classic motor cars preserved as family heirlooms, continue to delight visitors and enhance every event hosted on the property.

Cultivating Excellence: A Year of Growth at The Hills Estate

As 2024 comes to a close, the garden group reflects on a year of commitment, collaboration, and achievements at The Hills Estate. From enhancing the estate’s breathtaking landscapes to preserving its wild reserve, our focus on excellence has been unwavering. This dedication has inspired us to enter The Hills Estate into the SALI Awards of Excellence 2025, a testament to the high standards we have maintained since the start of this partnership.

Landscape Maintenance and Upgrades

Throughout the year, our team has prioritised the meticulous care and improvement of The Hills Estate’s outdoor spaces. Landscape upgrades have introduced fresh appeal, while ongoing maintenance has preserved the estate’s signature elegance.

Our efforts in invasive weed control within the wild reserve have been particularly impactful. By safeguarding indigenous plant life and employing environmentally conscious techniques, we’ve ensured the reserve remains a thriving natural sanctuary.

SALI Awards of Excellence

The South African Landscaping Institute (SALI), established in 1984, is the leading standards

body for the landscaping industry in South Africa. With a vision of unity, professionalism, and integrity, SALI sets the benchmark for excellence in landscaping.

We are thrilled to announce that The Hills Estate has been entered into the SALI Awards of Excellence 2025, which recognises outstanding landscaping achievements across the country. This submission highlights the exceptional results achieved through our collaborative efforts and showcases The Hills Estate as a model of landscaping excellence.

Weathering the Seasons

Pretoria’s winter in 2024 brought dry, cooler conditions, challenging us to maintain soil health and plant vitality. Through innovative irrigation and conservation techniques, we overcame these challenges,

ensuring the landscapes remained lush and inviting. As spring transitioned into summer, the rain arrived later than usual, coupled with much warmer days. These conditions initially posed challenges for plant growth. However, recent weeks have seen an encouraging increase in rainfall, which has rejuvenated the estate’s greenery and set the stage for a flourishing summer season.

A Partnership Built on Excellence

It has been a privilege working with The Hills Estate community and management team, whose support and dedication have made this year such a success. We look forward to strengthening our partnership in the coming seasons and continuing to set new standards of landscaping excellence at The Hills Estate.

Warm regards, The Garden Group

S E A S O N … F E S T I V E !

T h e H o l i d a y S e a s o n :

The holiday season is a time of joy, celebrations, and festivities, but it also brings with it an array of potential health risks for our pets. At our hospital, every year during the festive season, we see cases come in because of exposure to foodrelated hazards, and exposure to toxic decorations, and as always during this time of year, we see a lot of stress and anxiety cases Being aware of these potential dangers can help ensure that your furry companions stay safe, healthy, and even festive with you throughout the season.

Holiday Foods and Toxic Treats:

One of the biggest risks to pets during the holidays is the abundance of rich, festive foods. Many holiday foods that are perfectly safe for humans can be dangerous, or even deadly, to pets.

Chocolate: Especially dark chocolate, contains theobromine, which can cause poisoning in pets. Symptoms of chocolate poisoning include vomiting, diarrhoea, rapid breathing, increased heart rate, and seizures.

Grapes and Raisins: Grapes and raisins are toxic to dogs and can cause kidney failure, even in small amounts. Symptoms include vomiting, lethargy, and loss of appetite.

• Onions and Garlic: These common holiday ingredients can cause gastrointestinal upset and damage to red blood cells, leading to anaemia in pets, particularly cats and dogs

• Alcohol: Many pet owners enjoy festive drinks, but alcohol is highly toxic to animals, even in small quantities. It can cause vomiting, diarrhoea, breathing difficulties, and even coma or death.

• Xylitol (Sugar Alcohol): Commonly found in sugar-free gum, candies, and baked goods, xylitol can cause a sudden drop in blood sugar levels, leading to seizures, liver failure, and potentially death

Dietary Indiscretions:

During the holidays, it's tempting to indulge our pets with extra treats, but overfeeding can lead to weight gain, digestive upset, or pancreatitis an extremely painful and potentially life-threatening condition caused by inflammation of the pancreas. Make sure to stick to your pet's regular feeding routine and avoid giving table scraps. Have specific, healthy treats available for guests to give to your pets to prevent them from feeling guilty and giving something from the table

S t r e s s a n d A n x i e t y :

The holidays can be stressful for pets due to changes in routine, houseguests, loud noises from celebrations, and increased activity in the household. Some pets may exhibit anxiety or behavioural changes such as excessive barking, hiding, or destructive behaviour.

Noise Stress: Fireworks, party noisemakers, or even the hustle and bustle of guests can be overwhelming for pets. Cats and dogs with noise phobia may become fearful, leading to hiding, shaking, or even attempts to escape the house.

Separation Anxiety: If you're traveling or hosting family members, pets may feel stressed if their usual routine is disrupted Some pets may experience separation anxiety, leading to destructive behaviour or house soiling

Unfamiliar Guests and Crowds: Pets that are not used to large crowds or unfamiliar visitors can become anxious. To reduce stress, create a quiet space for your pet where they can retreat and feel safe away from the commotion.

Talk to your veterinarian about all the different stress relieving strategies you can implement as well as medicinal options, both natural and prescription medication are available.

Deadly Decorations and Gifts:

While festive decorations can add a magical touch to your home, many holiday decor items can be hazardous to pets.

Christmas Tree: Tinsel, tree ornaments, and lights can pose a choking hazard or intestinal obstruction if ingested Additionally, water in the tree stand may contain fertilizers or chemicals that could cause digestive upset if licked

Poinsettias and Lilies: While these plants are often used for decoration, they are toxic to pets. Ingesting them can lead to symptoms like drooling, vomiting, diarrhoea, and in severe cases, organ failure.

Candles and Scented Oils: Pets can knock over candles, causing fires or burns. Additionally, some essential oils and scented candles can be harmful to pets, especially cats. Always supervise pets around lit candles and avoid using certain oils that can irritate their respiratory systems.

• Toys with Small Parts: Toys with small parts or pieces that can break off are a risk for pets who love playing with toys and who might be tempted to ingest toys. This poses a risk of becoming what we call a foreign body obstruction which might need surgical removal or can even be fatal. Be mindful of this when you have a pet at home which might be more inquisitive and more likely to play with children’s toys.

• Chew Toys and Edible Treats: When giving your pet a Christmas present, be mindful of the ingredients in chew toys and edible treats Some products, especially rawhide, can cause choking or digestive issues if not properly chewed. Always supervise your pet when they have a new toy or treat.

Hot Weather Hazards:

In South Africa, our festive season is during our summer months Hot weather, rain and thunder storms present unique risks for pets, especially for those with short noses, long coats and those who are prone to anxiety

• Hyperthermia and Heat Stroke: In pets, particularly dogs and cats, the risk of overheating is compounded by their inability to regulate heat as efficiently as humans. Dogs only sweat through their paws and rely on panting to cool off, which is much less effective than sweating. Cats are also limited in their cooling mechanisms, relying on grooming and panting, but these can be insufficient during extremely hot conditions.

• Dried up Water Sources: Evaporation of drinking water and subsequent dehydration can occur more quickly than you might think. If your pet is an outdoor dog or cat, ensure they have access to fresh, cool water at all times.

C o n c l u s i o n

By staying vigilant and taking some extra precautions, you can make sure that your pet enjoys the holiday season safely alongside you. Remember, a little extra care goes a long way. From all of us at Akira Animal Hospital, we wish you and your furry companions a happy and healthy holiday season!

Feeling Festive… Feeling Grateful

What an incredible journey 2024 has been! As we near the end of this whirlwind year, it’s a wonderful opportunity to pause and appreciate the moments that brought us together as a community.

This year wouldn’t have been as extraordinary without the unwavering support and participation of you, our cherished residents. With December on the horizon, let’s take a moment to celebrate the highlights that made 2024 unforgettable.

We kicked off the year with our Back-2-School Charity Drive, providing school supplies and clothing to an orphanage in Nelmapius—a cause that remains close to our hearts. Following this, we introduced free fitness classes for residents, including step aerobics, rebound training, and dance fitness, to encourage healthier, more active lifestyles. To further support

diverse fitness goals, we expanded our offerings to include boxing, biokinetics, and karate, ensuring there’s something for everyone.

One of the year’s standout events was undoubtedly our Color Run, where families came together for a vibrant walk/run filled with joy and laughter. The day ended on a high note with thrilling football matches for the kids - a testament to the lively spirit of our community.

Through it all, our mission as gym management has been clear: to create a thriving, active, and inclusive fitness culture for everyone. We’re immensely proud of what we’ve achieved together and are committed to serving you with even greater enthusiasm in the year ahead.

Thank you for your continued support, for your participation, and for making our gym the heart of fitness and wellbeing in The Hills Estate. We value your feedback and ideas—feel free to drop your suggestions in the box at reception.

A HEARTWARMING COMMUNITY EFFORT

Dear Residents,

As the festive season approaches, I am reminded of the incredible spirit and generosity of our community at The Hills. This year, during the planning of Santa is Coming to The Hills and the Festive Market, the idea of the Buckets of Thanks project was brought up once again. Having witnessed the joy and gratitude it brought to our security guards last year, I eagerly stepped forward to facilitate this initiative—and what an inspiring journey it has been!

Our goal was clear: to raise R25,000 in just one week to fill 52 buckets with thoughtfully selected items for the security guards who dedicate themselves to keeping us safe. Each bucket was carefully packed with essentials like rice, cooking oil, maize, and sugar, alongside treats such as a large packet of Bakers Assorted Biscuits. We also included toiletries, fresh produce vouchers, and other thoughtful items, ensuring each bucket was not only practical but also a heartwarming gesture of thanks.

The response from our community was extraordinary. Not only did we meet our target, but we surpassed this and collected just over R66,000, allowing us to create something truly special for these hardworking individuals.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made this project possible:

• To Philip Fouché and Madeleine Marais, thank you for your invaluable assistance in helping to raise the funds. Your enthusiasm and support were

instrumental in the success of this initiative.

• To the residents who stepped in to help me pack the buckets, your time and effort were deeply appreciated. Together, we transformed a simple idea into a tangible expression of gratitude.

• And finally, to each resident who contributed—whether big or small—your generosity made this project a reality. You reminded us all of the power of collective kindness and the difference it can make.

The Buckets of Thanks project is about more than the items we packed. It is about acknowledging the hard work of those who keep our community safe, showing them that we care, and spreading joy during this special time of year. It is about the ripple effect of giving, and how even the smallest act of kindness can bring warmth to so many hearts.

Thank you for allowing me the privilege of facilitating this beautiful initiative and for coming together as a community to make it happen. I am so proud of what we have achieved, and I know that these 52 buckets will bring smiles, joy, and a sense of appreciation to the incredible security team who make The Hills a safe and special place to live.

Wishing you all a holiday season filled with love, happiness, and the true spirit of giving.

With warmest regards, Kim

• Extras: Marinated olives, nuts, and small holiday treats like chocolate-covered pretzels or candy canes for flair

Instructions

1. Arrange the Wreath Base: Lay rosemary sprigs in a circular shape on a large round platter or serving board. This forms the base of your “wreath”

2. Add Meats and Cheeses: Arrange meats and cheeses in clusters around the wreath. Roll the salami and prosciutto into small rosettes for a fancier look, and place them between the cheese clusters.

3. Incorporate Fruits and Veggies: Add grapes, cherry tomatoes, and apple or pear slices in open spots. Place cranberries and pomegranate arils in small bunches around the wreath to add a pop of holiday red.

4. Garnish for Festivity: Fill in any gaps with marinated olives, crackers, and small treats. The goal is to create a vibrant, full wreath that’s easy for guests to pick from.

5. Finishing Touches: Add a few sprigs of thyme or sage on top for added texture, and sprinkle some nuts for an extra layer of flavour.

Serving Tips

Serve with a variety of crackers or a fresh baguette, and consider a pairing with mulled wine or holiday cocktails to complete the festive vibe.

The Charcuterie Wreath combines classic holiday flavors with a stunning visual presentation, making it perfect for entertaining. Plus, it’s easy to customize with your favorite seasonal ingredients.

Dear Residents,

With the holiday season upon us, I’d like to take a moment to share some updates and reminders to help keep our community safe and enjoyable for everyone. Our security team is committed to your safety, and your cooperation goes a long way in making this festive time a wonderful experience for all.

Security Measures

If you’re planning to be away from home for more than 48 hours, please let our security team know your departure and return dates. This helps us keep an eye on your property for any unusual activity. Before you leave, take a moment to ensure all windows and doors are securely locked.

Safety Tips

Speeding within the estate is still a concern. Please drive cautiously and stick to the speed limits, and kindly remind your visitors to follow the estate’s rules.

With schools closing soon, children will likely be playing outside more often. Let’s encourage them to stick to designated play areas for their safety. Also, remember not to park on sidewalks or in restricted zones, as this can create unnecessary risks.

Wildlife and Pets

We’ve had recent reports of snakes being harmed. Please remember that our security supervisors are trained to handle and remove snakes safely. If you see one, avoid approaching it and contact our control room immediately.

Additionally, we kindly ask that residents avoid feeding wildlife, as this is managed by a dedicated team on a set schedule. If you’re heading out of town, please ensure your pets are cared for in your absence.

Fireworks are strictly prohibited within the estate. Fireworks can cause significant distress to wildlife and pets, making them anxious and leading to disruption. Residents found

using fireworks will be fined, so we kindly ask everyone to be mindful of this rule.

Hosting Events

If you’re hosting a gathering this holiday season, we’d like to remind you to follow the estate’s rules and guidelines. As per regulation 8.1.27, homeowners are responsible—financially and otherwise—for the behavior of their guests and workers while on the property.

On behalf of the security team, I’d like to wish you and your families a merry Christmas and a happy New Year. May this season bring you joy, peace, and meaningful moments with loved ones.

Thank you for being such an essential part of our community, and for helping us create a safe and welcoming environment for everyone.

Warm regards,

the Security Team

Turn Your Kruger Safari into a

Wildly

If you’re picturing vast savannas, golden sunsets, and the heart-pounding thrill of encountering lions, elephants, and other majestic wildlife up close, then Kruger National Park is where you want to be. Here’s a guide to help you plan the adventure of a lifetime.

1. Choose the Right Season for Your Safari

One of the first things to consider is timing. Every season in Kruger has its own special appeal. Winter (May to August) is prime for wildlife spotting since animals tend to gather at waterholes, and the dry terrain makes them easier to see. Summer (November to February), on the other hand, is lush and alive, with newborn animals and vibrant birdlife—a dream for photographers and nature lovers alike. Think about what excites you most, and plan your timing around that!

2. Embrace the Journey with Some Road Prep

Kruger is vast, so expect plenty of road time to truly explore it. The drive from Johannesburg is about 4-5 hours, so be sure to bring snacks! For the perfect onthe-go options, check out The Trail Food Company for delicious and convenient snacks that are ideal for long trips. Once inside the park, you might cover as much as 200 km daily if you want to experience different areas. Trust me, packing a cooler with water, snacks from The Trail Food Company, and maybe a great playlist or podcast will make these drives feel like part of the adventure.

3. Smart Packing for Safari Success

Packing smart for a safari can really enhance your experience. Besides the basics, consider bringing along some extras that make a difference. A good pair of binoculars—like these from Karoo Outdoor Vortex Triumph® HD 10X42 —will help you spot distant wildlife. A power bank can be a lifesaver during power outages at camps, and don’t forget sunscreen and insect repellent. You’ll be grateful you have them!

4. Dress for Kruger’s All-Day Weather Swings

Kruger mornings and evenings can be chilly, while midday brings the heat. Layers are key—think a light jacket for those early drives and breathable cotton clothes for the afternoons. Go for neutral colours; they help you blend in and keep bugs at bay!

5.

Plan Your Route to See Your Highlights

Deciding where to explore is one of the most exciting parts of planning. The south of Kruger is bustling with big cats and other wildlife, while the north is quieter, ideal for bird lovers. Think about what interests you most and map out a route that hits your must-see spots.

6. Find the Perfect Place to Stay

Where you stay can truly enhance your Kruger experience. Here are a few standout options to match different travel styles:

Luxury Lodges: Kruger National Park is home to a selection of exceptional lodges, each offering its own distinct luxury safari experience. At Sabi Sabi Earth Lodge, guests find unmatched comfort and privacy, with private plunge pools, dedicated butler service, and a rare wine collection in an underground cellar—an ideal retreat after a day on safari.

In the Greater Kruger, Safari Moon Lodge combines refined elegance with eco-friendly principles. Here, guests enjoy private game drives, guided bush walks, and gourmet dining — a perfect choice for those who appreciate nature and luxury in harmony.

For a truly secluded experience, Fifty-Five Mjejane Lodge, located in the serene Mjejane Game Reserve on the Crocodile River, offers a private retreat just for you and your guests. This exclusive lodge allows you to encounter the Big Five in a beautiful, undisturbed setting—ideal for those seeking intimacy and adventure in equal measure.

A Riverfront Gem in Marloth Park: Located in Marloth Park, Kruger Private Lodge is a stunning 7-bedroom retreat on the Crocodile River, where wildlife and birds roam freely. With four river-view rooms, three gardenview rooms, two river decks, and a boma for sunsets and stargazing, it’s a perfect escape. Visit Kruger Private Lodge for an unforgettable bush experience.

While marveling at wildlife freely roaming near the river, you can also experience something special by feeding Marloth Park’s own wildlife right at the back door—a unique touch for nature lovers seeking an immersive bush experience.

Private

Game Reserves: Right next to Kruger are private reserves like Sabi Sand, where unfenced borders allow wildlife to roam freely between the park and reserves. These reserves offer exclusive experiences with smaller groups and more secluded safari

moments—perfect for spotting Kruger’s Big Five.

Self Catering: Travelers looking for flexibility and budget-friendly options, Kruger’s rest camps are a top choice for self-catering stays. Camps like Skukuza, Lower Sabie, and Satara offer fullyequipped kitchens, braai areas, and nearby grocery stores, making them ideal for families, groups, or anyone who enjoys cooking their own meals on safari. Staying right inside the park also means you’ll have easy access to morning and evening drives for the full Kruger experience.

If camping is on your agenda, Pretoria Caravans & Outdoor has a broad selection of campers, caravans, and outdoor gear to complete your adventure.

For more details on Kruger rest camps, look into Kruger Rest Camps.

No matter your preference—whether for luxury, seclusion, or a flexible, budget-friendly stay—each of these accommodations offers a unique way to immerse yourself in the Kruger experience.

7. Rise and Shine for Incredible Sightings

In Kruger, early mornings and late afternoons are magical. The cooler temperatures mean animals like lions and leopards are more active. Enter the park as soon as it opens to catch them on the move! Special Experiences to Enrich

Your Safari Kruger offers more than just sightings from your vehicle. Here are some experiences that bring you even closer to the wild:

Guided Bush Walks: Step into the heart of the wild with a guided bush walk! These immersive three-hour excursions led by seasoned guides take you far off the beaten path, giving you the rare chance to track wildlife up close, explore unusual plants, and uncover Kruger’s hidden wonders. It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience that few get to enjoy, and if you’re up for a two- to threehour walk, this adventure is an absolute must.

Bird Watching: With over 500 species, Kruger is a paradise for bird enthusiasts.

Some lodges offer special birdwatching tours, making it easy to see everything from colourful rollers to the mighty African fish eagle.

Night Drives: See Kruger’s nocturnal wildlife come to life. Led by expert rangers, these night drives let you spot animals like hyenas, leopards, and owls under the stars.

Photography Tours: Capture Kruger’s beauty with guided photography tours designed for all skill levels. Professional guides help you find the best lighting, angles, and spots to snap unforgettable shots.

Entry Rates and Local Discounts

South African citizens enjoy discounted entry fees—about R128 per adult and R64 for kids under 12. Check here for special deals on accommodations, game drives, and more!

How to decorate a Tree like a Professional

With these easy steps you can make your Christmas Tree look spectacular!!

The biggest tip to decorating a tree is to take your time!!

Follow these steps and you can’t go wrong!

1. Open up

• Take the tree out of the box: Secure the stand. Assemble the tree from the bottom upwards.

• Open up the branches: Take the branch and open each branchlet in a different direction. There may not be two branches stuck together. Work your way from the bottom upwards.

Tip 1: Use a rotating tree stand from Santa’s Warehouse to WOW every one and get a 360 view at your tree.

Tip 2: Take your time!! This step is the most important step of all even if it takes hours; make the tree look perfect even without decorations!

Here are more specific instructions of how to assemble the trees.

Hinged

Christmas Tree

• Unpack the Tree: Remove all parts from the box and ensure all sections are present.

• Assemble the Stand: Open and secure the tree stand. Place it in your desired location.

• Connect Sections: Insert the bottom section into the stand, then stack the middle and top sections, ensuring they click into place.

• Drop the Hinged Branches: Let the hinged branches fall naturally into position.

• Shape the Branches: Start at the bottom, fluffing each branch by separating the tips to create a full and balanced look.

Final Touches: Shaping All

the Branches

• Work methodically from the bottom to the top.

• Bend tips slightly upward for a natural look.

• Step back occasionally to adjust and ensure symmetry.

• Now your tree is ready for decorating!

2. Lights

• Start with your light: Make sure the lights are working before you put them up.

• Start from the tip of your tree (end with your plug at the bottom).

• Go around and around the tree with the lights. Make sure the lights are evenly spread. Don’t push the lights too far into the tree. Make sure each light is visible and not behind a branch.

• Now start to hide ALL the wires with the branches. Fold the branches over the wires, but make sure it is not in front of the lights.

Tip: As you go along putting up the lights, stand back and look if the lights are evenly spread out.

3. Décor

• When you start with your decorations, start with the biggest decorations first then go smaller decorations and baubles to fill the spaces.

• If you have ribbon or tinsel, they are first to go onto the tree.

• After the ribbons you start with your poinsettias and bigger décor items. When you put them in, stand back and see if they fill the perfect space. If not take the time to make it right.

• Use the smaller décor to fill the spaces in between.

• After each decoration is put on the tree, stand back and make sure it is on the perfect spot

• All the decorations must be evenly spread.

Tip: Make sure there are no open gaps that all the décor are evenly spread out.

4. Tree topper

Put your tree topper on the tip of the tree, use a couple of branches to keep it steady.

Tip: If the tree topper is too heavy, fasten a dowel stick to the base of the tree topper and then fasten it to the tree with cable ties.

Santa is Coming to The Hills: A Festive Day to Remember!

On the 30th of November, The Hills Eco Estate transformed into a magical wonderland as Santa himself arrived in a horse-drawn carriage to spread festive cheer among our community. The event was nothing short of spectacular, with the spirit of the season filling every corner of our estate.

Santa made a grand entrance, delighting the children who gathered eagerly to meet him. Dressed in his classic red suit, he rode through the streets with the sound of jingling bells, hearty “Ho Ho Ho’s,” and the laughter of excited children echoing throughout. The procession led to Redford

School, where the festive market and gift drop-off took place.

At Santa’s special area, complete with a beautifully decorated chair, children on the “nice list” received their gifts from Santa and his cheerful elf helpers. Their joy and excitement created a magical atmosphere that truly captured the spirit of the holidays.

A Festive Market Like No Other

The festive market was a highlight of the day, offering something for everyone. Residents strolled through the stalls, enjoying delightful festive music and the aroma of delicious treats. Stalls featured a variety of offerings, from ice cream and chicken tenders to organic honey, personalized gifts, and gaming products.

Special thanks to Inyati Drilling, who

sponsored the kids’ entertainment. Children were treated to face painting and balloon art, with the balloon artist creating whimsical swords and shapes that added to the fun.

We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Terrouges Équestre, who partnered with us to provide the magnificent horse and carriage that made Santa’s arrival so magical. Your contribution was truly the cherry on top of this festive celebration.

without the dedication and hard work of many. A heartfelt thank you to our Office Management team, who went above and beyond to ensure everything ran smoothly. Your efforts truly made this day a success.

A special thank you to Redford School for accommodating us on short notice and providing the perfect venue for the market. Your support made it possible for us to create lasting memories for our community.
