How to rethink the urban fabric of the city of San Juan?
Food trucks Street markets Festivals Art lessons Library Hostel
Urban sprawl and car support spaces promote the creation of empty spaces with great potential. We study a series of theories that emphasize the reorganization of the city in terms of fluidity, mobility and diversity. This project transforms an empty space with great potential to a new centrality. This new centrality works as a generator of jobs, wealth and cultural engagement using the creative economy and creative industries. The creative industries refer to a range of economic activities that trade goods, knowledge and information. It comprises art, crafts, film, music, performing arts, etc. It’s the creation of new social, economic and cultural spaces that adapts to modern infrastructure.
The Martinez Nadal’s train stop was chosen for the development of the project.

What’s the main service a community need? Based on the health care services, economic profile and population of the community of Oriente in San Juan we though is was better to add to the community a Ladies Health Center. The facility combines recreation, health and education. Everyone can be a part of the facility, but as you go up it becomes more specialized.

program Housing Parks Recreation Mirador
How we get back to the community? La Perla is one the oldest community in San Juan, Puerto Rico. As a group we develop a template to create a database for the Department of Housing of Puerto Rico. Then, we created visual presentations for the community that included a urban plan. Each member of the group based their project on one of the main programs: housing, parks or recreation. “El Mirador la Perla” was created as one of the proposal for economic injection in this community. “El mirador la Perla” could be one of the stops on a tour where you could see the whole community.

How you connect three towns by including attractions? The main focus was to create an urban plan that could connect three towns (Guayama, Salinas and Patillas) using the old train tracks. When we go through the project we can experience the towns in different perspective: on the mountains, on the coastline or the in between. We tried to use different means of transportations for the connections such as: bicycle, walking, funicular, kayaking, car, public transportation, etc. The user can exchange their mean of transportation in each intermodal platform. The intermodal platforms overlap sports, cuisine, water and education.

UTOPIA VERTICAL metropolis
Program How to create a new way of living? Housing Parks Recreation Mirador
This vertical metropolis is a self-sufficient metropolis that works as the human body. It helps users to rehabilitate. The building has three stages: interaction, confrontation and rehabilitation. The platforms are connected with a central core. The central core reflects the central nerve system of our body. The structural overlapping of the platform is possible with the tensegrity system that was created by Buckminster Fuller.
