BROZYNSKA KAROLINA 2014
My professional adventure with the architecture began nearly 4 years ago, when I started my studies in Poland. But personally, I feel like I have been taking a part in this journey since my early age and all of this experience seems to be a one way ticket for an expres through all of my life. In my understanding you can learn how to be an architect, but you could never lie yourself pretending to be one if it is not your thing to experience and to analize everything around. That is why it is so important to understand what you want, who you are and who do you want to be. Hi. I am a student, a woman, a traveller and I am going to be AN ARCHITECT.

The project concerns the architectural HERITAGE; its conditions, value, potential and relation with the city and inhabitants. The building chosen is La Carboneria, the historic coal yard built before Cerda extension plan (XIXth century). Currently, the place is devastated and adapted by slums. The building is strongly interrelated with the urban fabric. Nevertheless, it does not interact with the new language of the street. The purpose of the project is to rethink the structure of the historic site, rebuild two buildings in the neighbourhood, open the courtyard for public use and provide a coherent program for the complex. My idea is to create a multi-purpose space (gallery, art school, art studios, cafe) that will fully take an advantage of potential left on the plot. Considering the corner position and the iartisitc remains on the site, designing an ART CENTER was an obvious choice.

TO LIVE Dennistoun is a district of the city of Glasgow, Scotland.with a population of roughly 10,530. Although predominantly tenemental, the Victorian villas and terraces to the west (towards the city centre) illustrate part of Alexander Dennistoun's original plan for the whole area. Unable to attract the middle-class residents intended by its original developers, it established itself as a respectable working class area for families. Live Square appartments is a new and vibrant residential area proposition which aims to intergrate greenliving with the busy and dynamic aspects of the city centre. The residentail area surrounds a small public square where a set of small bars, restaurant and shops will appear allowing the residents to have a greater social experience at their door step.

TO LEARN
The project concerns the design of a student study library sited in St.Andrews on the east coast of Scotland. The library is in essence a reading room primarily for university purpose, a place conducive to reading and study together with supporting accommodation and a linked residence for a visiting academics.
The cathedral site is especially suitable for a quiet study place described. Moreover, its architectural ruins create a special atmosphere of wisdom and history. In order to emphasize the heritage of this small city the block of the library on the site schould be a result of a profund analisys and a compromise between old and new.

MODEL
TO GATHER Inveraray is the traditional county town of Argyll and ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll, who founded the town in 1745. It offers access to national parks, mountains, glorious gardens and beautiful islands. There is a massive choice of historic sites including castles and monuments and stories of Scotland's turbulent past. The concept for the place of worship placed in main Avanue of the town is higly connected to its history as the buliding remains the Memorial Funeral Chapel. The simplicity of the block follows the strategy of the light intensity. The further into the building you go the less light you meet and the more privacy you get. The same happens with the noise from the outside. The chapel as the main destination reveals its room on the last stop of this misterious route.

MODEL MAKING STAGES
From the bottom pairs of twisted bars are designed to take the role of stiff supporters. Another part of the shell - the mesh made of crossed bars - hardens the structure and distributes the loads. The highest loopshaped level creates a canopy of the pavilion and connects the left and right bars.

During the final presentation the jury with a special guest Makoto Fukuda from TOYO ITO office selected our group project as the one that fully met the demands of the competition.
Playing with the material confirmed our opinion that the process of twisting the bars can considerably extend its toughness. This knowledge was used in creating different levels of structure according to their role and position.
III
The main goal of the parametric class on my ERASMUS exchange in Barcelona was to design a plywood shell that will provide a modern shape and structure and will take the advantage of the natural condition of the plywood. The special awarness was also devoted to themodel making skills as well as the economy of timber material given.
