BRYAN B KELLY NAIVE ART
‘Like so many artists loosely described as 'naive' or 'outsidear', I am self taught. I describe my paintings as naive with more than a hint of surrealism, uncomplicated and generally happy, probably appealing more to the heart than the head.’ /Bryan B Kelly/

Bryan B. Kelly Bryan Beresford Kelly was born and grew up in Ennis County Clare, Ireland. In the early sixties he studied Garment Technology and Textile Design at Leeds University, in Yorkshire. Most of Bryan's working life has been spent in the Textile industry in England. In the early seventies he taught himself ceramics and opened his first studio in Lancashire in 1974, specializing in Ceramics. He has exhibited his Ceramic work in Newham, East London, and at Ely Cathedral, Cambridge. He has also opened Studios in Essex and in West Cork, Ireland. Although, it was late in life when he discovered that he could paint, Bryan opened a studio in Wexford in 2007 and worked there as a full time professional artist. Bryan was given his first Solo Exhibition in the highly rated "Pigyard Gallery, Wexford in March 2008 which followed with joint exhibition at The Gallerie Nautique, Cork City in July 2008 and solo exhibition in "The Cockleshell Gallery", Duncannon, Co Wexford, in October 2008. In September 2008, Bryan accepted a Residency at the prestigious world renowned "Cill Rialaig Project" Artists Village Co Kerry, Ireland October 2010, Bryan was the "Featured Artist" at the Carysfort Gallery's "Treasure Trove", exhibition held in Wexford for the two week duration of the "International Opera Festival". Another successful exhibition was held in The Allied Arts Club in October 2011. In June 2011 Bryan located to Leamington Spa where he had a solo exhibition in The Gallery 150 in September same year. Like so many artists loosely described as "Naive" or "Outsider", Bryan is self taught. He describes his unique paintings as "Naive" with a hint of "Surrealism", probably appealing more to the heart than the head. He hopes they impart a "feel-good" factor to the viewer. Bryan lists among his favourite artists- Van Gogh, Gauguin, Pissarro and early "Naive" artists such as Grandma Moses, Pippin and Hicks. His favourite Irish artist is Markey Robinson. Bryan now works from The Rooftop Studio Gallery in The Iron Yard, Warwick, which he shares with well known local artist, Christine Knight.
