Felix Mendelssohn: Symphony No. 3; Midsummer Night’s Dream / Baltimore SO

Romanian-born conductor Sergiu Comissiona galvanized the Baltimore Symphony into an orchestra of national prominence, releasing several albums on Vox. The Symphony No. 3 ‘Scottish’ was inspired by Mendelssohn’s sightseeing visit in 1829 to Holyrood Chapel. This classic recording of the “Scottish” Symphony is coupled with a previously unreleased recording from 1977 of excerpts from A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
