Leroy Anderson: The Phantom Regiment & Other Tales
According to the annotations on this Klavier CD, Leroy Anderson made 30 arrangements for band. Thirteen of them can be heard here. The nonAnderson arrangements are those of “Bugler’s Holiday” and “A Trumpeter’s Lullaby”, but they are certainly in the Anderson style. (Klavier)

Jazz Funeral
$16.99
Certainly one of the most unique sights in New Orleans is that of a traditional jazz funeral in progress. This CD takes the listener through all parts of such a service. These include the wake of inspirational gospel tunes, followed by the dirges, as the crowd accompanies the casket en route to the final resting place, and the joyful sendoff as the preacher cuts loose the body. (Mardi Gras)
Dick van Gasteren is the founderconductor of the Ciconia Consort, a chamber orchestra based in The Hague since 2012. To mark 400 years since the Pilgrim Fathers left the Netherlands for America, he devised this program of music from the first half of the 20th century, reflecting the particular character of ‘New World’ music as well as its roots in European romanticism.

A Trip to Coney Island
Before the television, radio, or even the phonograph, brass and wind bands dotted the American landscape. In 1890, as many as 10,000 bands were active in the United States. During the period 1880-1920, often called the “Golden Age of American bands,” thousands of original works and arrangements for band were published. This fascinating CD features six lively overtures by George Foreman and his New Columbian Brass Band. (Sono Luminus)

Teddy Bears Picnic – Musical Menagerie from America’s Golden Age
Musical depictions of weather, animals and other atmospheric firma and fauna dot the classical landscape, Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals and Prokofiev’s Peter and the Wolf being but two enormously popular, conspicuous examples. The modern interpretations of a choice selection of such works on Teddy Bears Picnic offer a wonderful reintroduction of this music to adults and children alike. (Dorian)
