People typically want leave a movie theater saying something other than “Oh, what a good movie.” They want to feel affected — or, empowered that they could have an impact on the world as the characters did. This is exactly the sensation “The Blind Side” has on its audience — or, at least, this audience member. Based on a true story, the film focuses on Leigh Anne Tuohy, a stubborn, opinionated and heartfelt mother, as she and her husband take in Michael Oher, a homeless teenager and talented football player in need of help. Sandra Bullock plays Tuohy while newcomer Quinton Aaron plays Oher. Both actors made the characters relatable and very realistic, which made the telling of Michael Oher’s story capable of moving the movie’s audience. Many could say Michael Oher’s story is one seen often in movies — a story of a young adult who has withstood a bad childhood, made it out of gangs and violence and eventually finds a way to further himself in life. Yet, there is nothing typical about Michael’s story, and this movie makes you understand the difference you could have on someone’s life and the effect that person could have on yours. This is portrayed by the actor’s impeccable talent in making the characters realistic and therefore able to capture your heart and really feel concerned about Michael’s future and what is going to happen to him. Through their acting, you fall in love with the characters. “The Blind Side” shows you just how much Michael Oher had to overcome in order to be the person he is today (a member of the NFL’s Baltimore Ravens, by the way). And frankly, he wouldn’t be where he is today if it wasn’t for the help of Leigh Anne Tuohy. She is the empowering and strong woman that many young girls wish they could be when they grow up. This movie will make you feel like you’re invincible, and that you’re capable of doing anything with help and love from your family. Not only does it make you want to pursue your hopes and dreams, it inspires you to help

other people. A film like this doesn’t come around very often. Most movies have some sort of offensive content or it’s just altogether inappropriate for a viewer to comfortably watch and enjoy. It’s really rare to see a movie with appropriate humor, touching moments and a story that anybody can relate to. If you’re debating between seeing a movie with a bunch of screaming girls over a shirtless werewolf or you have the chance to see a movie about a young adult overcoming adversity and making something of himself while, in the process, inspiring you to help others — pick “The Blind Side.” Kaitlin Lounsberry is a sophomore at Williamsville High School.
