Space Within Space

Fall Semester 3rd Year, 2 weeks

Located on the Drillfi eld at Virginia Tech sits a spiral structure built out of wood. It is a space to accomodate three people to listen to select John Cage compositions, serving as a room for contemplation. The reading room is dedicated to the presentation of ten Cage books. Natural lighting seeps through small openings allowing light in but not sight.

Editor Cliff Apartment

Spring Semester 3rd Year, 2 weeks

Located in the Appalachian Mountains sits an apartment for an Editor to stay for a few months. A fifteen foot tall preexisting ruin is located to the right. The double cantilever is achieved through a wall made of trusses. From the second level, the Editor’s office offers a panoramic view of the mountains.

Sculptor Studio and Apartment

Fall Semester 3rd Year, 8 weeks

Space for a sculptor to reside at Virginia Tech and sculpt rocks for a semester. Situated in the Duck Pond between the upper and lower pond with trees providing privacy and shade from the main walking paths. The form is derived from framed views of Duck Pond.

Third Year Competion

Fall Semester 3rd Year,1 week

A proposition for a bike hub located behind Cowgill Hall on Virginia Tech’s campus. The hub provides outdoor bike storage, a bike repair shop, a cafe, and public restrooms. This addition allows for students to have a permanant place to store their bikes all day during classes and have a place to stay while their bikes are worked on.
