PHILOXENIA III Fall 2017 This studio project during my semester abroad focuses on how Syrian refugees in a suburb of Athens, Greece can be integrated with the surrounding community through structures designed to welcome the newcomers and green spaces that provide outdoor space and encourage social interaction.

CHINA INTERNSHIP Summer 2017 I was given the opportunity to intern at the Jianxue Architecture and Engineering Design Institute office in Hangzhou, China. At the firm, I developed diagrams and concepts for resorts to be presented to clients. For this resort project, I proposed that the resort would target business groups to attend a company retreat. This retreat would allow the businessmen to get away from the stressful working environment while getting the opportunity to learn the arts of painting and cooking for a team bonding experience in the bamboo forest landscape. COALESCENCE Spring 2017 The structure gives purpose and meaning to Hazelwood Cemetery’s “Central Plaza” by physically, functionally, and symbolically anchoring the center of the cemetery through the discovery of a new burial trend that infuses ashes with the art of blown glass.

SCULPTURE SCHOOL Fall 2016 Through the exploration of sculptures and materials as precedents, two separate structures are developed where the contrast in materials around the façade create the distinction between the public (educational) and the private (residential) programs. The rendered section perspective begins to show material quality and idea of structure for building construction. To experience the space and environment in virtual reality, Lumion was used to add entourage for producing a visual on how one would interact with and around the architecture. DRURY ACTIVITY CENTER Spring 2016 As a result of a site analysis of the campus, curvilinear planes frame and direct views outward to significant surrounding areas. The main entrance faces the direction of where most users will be traveling from and the building’s orientation is offset to avoid direct sunlight that would cause disability glare.

WORK / PLACE / RESPOND Spring 2016 Understanding the needs of the AmeriCorps volunteers and finding a solution to fulfill the request for shelter, work areas, and storage for supplies within a standard size shipping container. The container is developed to accommodate for more space through the addition of retractable floors, ceilings, and folding walls to transform the original enclosure.

GROUND / SKY Fall 2015 A design solution of terraces in a radial pattern activates the outdoor space while making the landscape in front of the Findlay Student Center (FSC) more effective for rain water drainage. Additionally, attention was focused on the main corridor of the FSC and how natural light can enter and be filtered into the circulation space.

DIGITAL FABRICATION Voronoi patterns are developed in Grasshopper and then applied to the faces of a digital orthogonal volume in Rhino. The physical model construction is explored through laser cutting chipboard and 3D printing.

LIGHTING DESIGN The project on the left explores the lighting qualities of layering through the variation of depths of the rectangular elements to see how shadows can be created from reflected light. The project on the right is a translucent wire cover that disguises the rope light and copper wire that gives it structure. The copper wire permits the lamp to be manipulated into any form desired through its malleable qualities.

ART OF SPACE I am a member of this on-campus club that creates art installations that focuses on the design of space. This organization experiments with a variety of materials and its qualities to produce a work that would be used to promote fundraisers, events, and museums.
