Curbside Organic Waste Collection
Coming to a Curb Near You…
A residential curbside organic waste collection program is coming to all single- and multi-family households along curbside collection routes in mid to late 2023.

The Council-authorized program builds upon a year-long pilot program that tested organic waste collection in five select neighbourhoods to learn what worked well and what could be improved for a community-wide program.
Visit our Let’s Talk page to learn more about the background, to find out how the program works and what items will be included in collection, and to subscribe to receive updates on the timing of cart delivery for your zone and the start date for city-wide organic waste collection.
Diverting organic waste from the landfill supports GHG emissions reduction targets in the Community Climate Action Plan.
To learn more, visit LetsTalk.Kamloops.ca/Organics.
City-wide curbside residential organic waste collection will see approximately 5,000 tonnes of organic waste diverted from the City’s landfills annually and is estimated to reduce community greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 9,500 tonnes per year – that’s equivalent to removing 2,000 passenger vehicles from local roads for one year!

Functional Movement Screen (FMS) Corrective Exercises Focuses on addressing issues identified in the Functional Movement Screen Assessment. Program design and exercise selection is based on improving your fundamental movement baseline. Provides corrective exercise essentials: breathing, mobility, motor control, transitional postures, and functional loading. The ultimate goal of the FMS Corrective Exercise is to gain the ability to express higher levels of neuromuscular control while improving physical condition.

The Canadian Disability Participation Project has created Canada’s first ever disability report card that summarizes physical activity data for youth with disabilities. Key findings included the need to prioritize youth with disabilities in policy and funding, improve monitoring, remove ableism for existing benchmarks, and address measurement gaps.

(Sport Information Resource Centre, 2022)

PERIODS ARE A FACT OF LIFE.
Period Product Initiative Launch
The City of Kamloops is taking action to address period poverty in our community by piloting an initiative to offer free period (menstrual) products to City staff and to the public in select public washrooms. Significant research lead by the United Way British Columbia has shown how much of our population is negatively affected by barriers that limit access to these essential products. Products dispensers have been installed in washrooms in the following facilities:
• City Hall
• 105 Seymour Street
• Tournament Capital Centre
• McArthur Island Sport and Event Centre
The City is eager to learn how the products available in these public locations will be received by local residents and, if the pilot is successful, is hoping to expand availability to other public washrooms later this spring. Residents are encouraged to provide feedback through a short survey about the initiative at Kamloops.ca/PeriodProducts.
The survey is also available by QR code where period products are being provided.
