Welcome To Boogie 2014
Movement is Change!
The CFJC-TV Boogie The Bridge is much M-O-R-E than running and the energy on race day is all about support, love, friendship and equality. We want to give you an experience like no other (running, walking or strolling). There is a pace for everyone at Boogie and all paces are equal. In 1998 as a university social work student, I began writing, coaching and sharing my experiences as a “non-competitive” athlete. Once someone who only dreamt of running I started planning an event called “Boogie the Bridge.” This event was about transformational change, empowerment and movement is change. The Boogie philosophy is one where all paces are equal and that movement creates an abundance of health currencies for all of us. For most of us, the real reason we go to races isn’t because we hope to land on the podium or claim an age-group award. We race to challenge ourselves, or in memory of a loved one, or for a charity, or for any number of personal and special reasons. At Boogie – you all deserve a moment to shine. Through the Boogie training program; and working with amazing teams, we have inspired thousands of men, women and children to run for fun, fitness, and self-affirmation. Today there are thousands of people who have walked, ran and strolled at CFJC Boogie the Bridge. The CFJC-TV Boogie has raised over $850,000 for local Kamloops agencies, including Big Brothers and Sisters, The Kelli early literacy program, and this year, we have two charities: The Youth Clubhouse and the Family Tree Family Centre. We, the Boogie Team, believe passionately about giving back and are grateful that you, too, believe so passionately in this life currency. The CFJC-TV Boogie The Bridge is about community wellness and providing a signature event for Kamloops. On behalf of the Boogie team, we wish you all the best on Boogie day and look forward to cheering you in, congratulating you by name, and giving you a hug and a high five as you cross the finish line. Boogie on! Jo Berry, Co-ordinator, CFJC Boogie Executive Director Boogie The Bridge Society

Message from our Mayor On behalf of my colleagues on council, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome participants to the 2014 CFJC Boogie. The organizers have done an amazing job in organizing and promoting this year’s event. Boogie would not be possible without financial sponsorship from the business community. In addition to the funds that are raised locally for various agencies, Boogie brings together participants in every age and ability. As Canada’s Tournament Capital, Kamloops strives to be a healthy community. Events such as Boogie enable us to meet, maintain or begin striving for our own personal goals. I would also like to thank the numerous volunteers who show up year after year with their bright t-shirts, smiling faces and words of encouragement. We couldn’t do this without you! Good luck to all of the participants. See you at the finish line! Yours truly,
P. G. Milobar, Mayor City of Kamloops
I would also like to thank the numerous volunteers that show up year after year with their bright T-shirts, smiling faces and words of encouragement. We couldn’t do this without you!
The Power of Community New Gold – New Afton Mine is proud to support local events in the community of Kamloops. The Boogie the Bridge event aligns with New Afton’s goals to encourage their employees to live healthy active lifestyles and provides an opportunity for employees to spend their time with family and friends to support a great cause. New Afton is looking forward to another successful Boogie the Bridge in 2014!

2014 Boogie
Message from the Route Director
On April 27th the Sea of Red will once again envelop the city’s downtown core in the running of the 17th Annual Boogie the Bridge. The Boogie the Bridge Society would like to welcome all levels of walkers and runners from the Kamloops area and around the province to this year’s event. The 2014 edition of the Boogie has seen a change in our title sponsorship. CFJC TV has assumed our title sponsorship taking over from the Kamloops Daily News. The Boogie Society would like to welcome CFJC TV and their support for this wonderful community health initiative. The Society also would like to acknowledge and thank the former Kamloops Daily News for all of its unwavering support throughout the years as our title sponsor. This year is shaping up to be another exciting experience for all participants. Once again, there will be an 8:30 a.m. start time for our 21K runners. This will better enable our half marathon runners to enjoy all the spectacular energy that race day offers at the finish line. As in past years, we are striving to improve the overall experience of our participants, volunteers and spectators. Once again, we are pleased to offer all participants free transportation to and from the event. Simply show your Boogie Bib to the bus driver and you ride the City transit for free. Returning once again is the popular 1K Mini Boogie route for our little people. Our mini runners will start and end at the RED Start/Finish line in between Second & Third Avenue on Victoria Street. All kids nine and under are invited to participate in this fun event, prior to the start of the 5K and 10K runs (kids under five must run with an adult). Bringing Boogie to the streets of Kamloops isn’t possible without the active co-operation of the City of Kamloops, the RCMP, the Boogie Volunteers and the many sponsors. I’d like to acknowledge all these wonderful groups that work tirelessly to ensure our city is the best place to live and our Boogie route is safe for all. For more information on routes and sponsors, visit Boogie online at www.boogiethebridge.com On behalf of the Boogie Team, good luck to all participants. Boogie on and have fun, David DiFrancesco, Route Director

• Use Vaseline or BodyGlide wherever things rub. • Band-Aids on the nipples, guys. • Replace running shoes often. Log your mileage, but general rule is every six months for consistent runners. • Run every other day, never two days in a row. • Ice aches and pains immediately. Stand in the river if you can bear it for five minutes. • Keep toenails short. • Don’t stretch before a run. Warm up by walking briskly or jogging slowly for several minutes.

Live Entertainment
Boogie To The Beat
The Boogie route is going to be as exciting and motivating as it’s ever been with crazy water tables and great local entertainers. People will have so much fun they will forget that they are running. The fun does not end when you cross the finish line, you can get your photo taken and join in the fun at the Main stage. Our feature band will be chosen at the Boogie to the Beat battle of the bands April 10. Go to our website for photos from the event and see who our feature act will be, www.boogiethebridge.com

• Each pound you lose makes running a little easier.
Boogie is brought to life by Lee’s Music, which provides all the sound and Mike Funk from Funktional Electric, who provides all the power.
• Hydrate throughout the day. Do not over drink.
Come out and get crazy!
• Long-distance runs require more electrolytes (ie: Gatorade).
Some of the route entertainment returning from last year will be: • Lee’s Music Rockers • Dallas Elementary Marimba group with Lorraine Froese • Djembe Django • D & L Music • Nathan Bymoen and friends • The Alliance Church • Full of Excuses • Sahali Secondary New this year!
• On long runs eat something every hour (gels, gummies). • Eat one hour immediately after run.
