TRU BRIDAL FAIR PREVIEW
Luxury Bridal Fair celebrating 10 years Attending a bridal fair can be a wonderful experience for many up and coming brides. Brides and grooms have the opportunity to meet various vendors, sample products and compare prices all under one roof—so saying, “I do” to the 2014 Kamloops Luxury Bridal Fair can help alleviate stress in planning your special day. This year, the Bridal Fair will be bigger than ever,
celebrating its 104th anniversary. The TRU Conference Centre is hosting the Kamloops Luxury Bridal Fair on Sunday, January 26 in the Campus Activity Centre at Thompson Rivers University. The fair begins at 10 a.m. followed by the luxury fashion show starting at 2 p.m. By spending the day at the Bridal Fair, brides, grooms and their wedding
parties will be able to plan the celebration of their big day. The fair features an array of vendors that will be showcasing their products and services among bridal fair attendees. “We average 55-60 exhibitors including photographers, décor companies, dresses, DJs, officiants, mortgage brokers and investment firms, spas, beauty companies, venues and caterers. “It is truly a onestop shop for all
things wedding,” says Jenn Pallett, events and catering coordinator at the TRU Conference Centre. “Our exhibitors come equipped with samples of their product from fabric swatches, bakery items, catering food samples, makeup and displays,” says Pallett. There is no better way for wedding parties to learn about available products and services than experiencing them
first hand. La Dolce Vita invites brides and grooms to come experience the action live at their salon booth. Stylists will be demoing various hair and makeup looks on models that will later be featured in the fashion show. “We are also planning a few other fun things for the day, but brides and grooms will have to be there to find out what those surprises will be,” says Pallett. After exploring the possibilities among our vendors, bridal parties are invited to enjoy some food and drink in our bridal lounge, sponsored by Aglow Weddings. Take this time to relax, recap and recuperate before our Luxury Fashion Show begins.
The TRU Conference Centre has partnered with Viva Bridal owner, Anthony Salituro to provide the best fashion show experience for the bridal attendees. Dj Service, Common Sounds will create the perfect ambiance with their high-energy music as models strut down the runway featuring gowns from Viva Bridal. In celebration of the 10th Anniversary, Viva Bridal has announced that they will be giving away a $1,000 gift certificate towards a wedding dress. This year, the TRU Conference Centre hired three students to help coordinate the bridal fair, based on their area of study and experience. Working with
Salituro is first year events and conventions management student, Jared Byrne. “Having been given this amazing opportunity to work for the Bridal Fair, it will give me hands on experience in managing an event,” says Byrne. “I am so grateful for the opportunity to work with industry professionals and make connections with some of the best.” Fourth-year journalism student, Ashley Legebokow will be in charge of the marketing and promotion of the bridal fair to the community. “It’s so exciting to be able to execute the skills I have learned in school and use them towards the field I am interested in,” says Legebokow. To DIY or to HAD? Do it yourself or hire a decorator? When planning your wedding, the question of “Should I do the decorating myself, or should I hire a decorator?” has most likely crossed your mind a few times. When deciding, consider these factors: 1) Consider the amount of time you will spend sourcing out your own products and decorations. A decorator has done the research for you. 2) Be prepared to store a large amount of boxes and totes in your home. Decorations take up a lot of space. 3) Ensure you have access to a well functioning iron (or two) to iron all your chair sashes, table linens, etc. Ironing is very time consuming, be prepared to spend many hours doing it. 4) Make sure you have plenty of time and help the morning of your wedding. Your venue may have an event the night before your wedding, therefor don’t rule out decorating right up until you walk down the aisle. Tying a chair sash takes on average 90 seconds. For example, tying 100 sashes will take you at least 90 minutes and that’s only the chair sashes! Ceiling draping can take several hours! 5) You may want to try to anticipate the unexpected. You’re married, your reception hall is decorated, and then the unexpected happens. Something wasn’t attached properly to the ceiling and it has fallen in the middle of the best man’s speech. Hiring a decorator could have avoided this horrific moment. Decorators operating with a business license should have insurance to cover the cost of damage in a situation such as this and know how to properly attach ceiling decor in a secure manner. 6) Be prepared to stay at your wedding until all the guests are gone, or waking up early the morning after to take down all the decorations. Your wedding was a blast, but now you have to clean up the mess, wash all the linens and then think about who is going to purchase your used items. Creating a wedding that is uniquely you doesn’t mean you have to do all the work yourself and be liable if something goes wrong. Most decorators will spend several hours with you in the months leading up to your event to ensure your special day is everything you have dreamt of. While spending money on a decorator may at first seem like an unnecessary splurge, spending your wedding day relaxing at a spa may be more appealing than worrying about decorating a venue.

Unless you have an immense amount of time and are extremely organized, you might want to consider leaving the decorating to a trained professional. When you are walking down the aisle, a decorator is putting the final touches on your reception hall, lighting the candles and making sure no small detail is forgotten. Just because you hire a decorator doesn’t mean your wedding won’t be personalized. Go ahead and add the homemade touches and mementos that have significance to you. It is often a blend of DIY and HAD that leads to a unique, beautiful and memorable wedding. Article courtesy of: Aglow Bridal Lounge aglowweddings.com

You wouldn’t dream of serving Kraft Dinner on paper plates and cola in plastic cups at your wedding, so why accept the chicken dance and the Macarena through an inadequate sound system? A wedding DJ must consider many factors in order to create the best possible experience for their clients. Here are some considerations that the top DJs in the industry will take when planning for your wedding. DJ and sound equipment — This determines sound quality and ability to seamlessly mix music. Your DJ should have high quality equipment to ensure exceptional sound. Smooth transitions between recognizable songs not only invite people to the dance floor, but maintain momentum. A well-balanced and thoughtfully positioned sound system will ensure that the dance floor encourages warm, welcoming vibes. Music selection and timing — Just as two chefs may create different meals using identical ingredients; wedding DJ’s often have similar music to work with. The most noticeable difference will be in the way they deliver music to you and your guests. You will want your DJ to not only know the old classics, but be knowledgeable of new tracks in every genre. Some of the top wedding DJ’s will even have personally remixed songs to cater to both younger and older demographics. Dedicated to progression — As music trends evolve so do the needs of wedding guests. Your DJ should
constantly be trying to exceed their last wedding; it is crucial to scrutinize what worked and what didn’t. This is one reason why it is so important to ask for recent referrals. Knowing how the DJ delivered their product in the past can be a strong indication to how they will perform at your wedding. Requests — We have all been witness to song requests that work and ones that simply do not. A good DJ will use requests to determine the most popular genres amongst the crowd and their effects on dance floor energy. Most importantly they will use their discretion to decide which tracks will be played. Because let’s face it, what you love listening to in your car, doesn’t necessarily convey to a large crowd ranging anywhere from 5 – 95 years old. Professional attire — Everyone dresses up for a wedding and so should your DJ. This may appear to be a ‘no-brainer’ however a poorly dressed DJ can become the topic of conversation among your guests and that should not be the case. These are just some of the many factors that are considered when planning for a successful wedding. With all of the time, energy, decisions, and money you put into every other aspect of your wedding – the DJ you choose is just as important. He or she will be the energy of the party, and a busy dance floor will make your wedding that much more special. Written by Common Sound

Why should you choose Viva Bridal? Viva Bridal Boutique is the Premier boutique in Kamloops Featuring the best of the best in Wedding Gowns. We are exclusive dealers of some of the most opulent and fashion-forward gowns in the world — names like Pronovias, Enzoani, Maggie Sottero, Allure Bridal, Alfred Sung, Mori Lee, David Tutera and Alfred Angelo, just to name a few. For 11 years, Viva has assisted thousands of brides in choosing “just the perfect gown.” Owner/operator Anthony Salituro loves the opportunity to be on the sales floor and work one on one with brides. He enjoys the challenge of scanning the hundreds of gowns in stock and always manages to find that special gown that resonates with the bride. Here are a few tips and some food for thought as you begin this process:
Beware the web G i

sized correctly is very important, and this is best done by actually trying it on. If you’re not careful you could seriously regret your decision and spend double the money if you don’t like the dress you bought online and have to buy a new one. Many bridal wedsites use authentic pictures from brand name gowns but are actually knockoff gowns made with inferior material and very poor quality beading and zippers . . . buyer beware.
Make an appointment Viva Bridal does not require an appointment, but you should make one anyway. This is to ensure you don’t wait around for an hour while the consultant helps customers who did have appointments. People with appointments will always come first. Most available appointment times are on weekdays. Viva Bridal also offers private appointments on evenings, h h i
closed to the public.
Have backup
Bring Your Camera Most boutiques frown upon taking pictures and hide the labels from the customer. Viva Bridal do not believe that is fair practice.
You’ll definitely want an opinion aside from that of the consultant. However, don’t make the mistake of taking your mother, your maid of honour, your bridesmaid, your
other bridesmaid, and your other bridesmaid’s little sister. Not only will they get in the way, but none of them will agree on anything, and mostly likely, at least one of them won’t like whatever dress you’re trying on.
It’s probably best to take one person (or maybe two, like your mother and maid of honour), whose opinion you trust and value
Have fun This is a time in your life when you get to try on as many
exquisite and expensive dresses as you want. You’ll be the center of attention (at least among your group at the shop) and people will treat you with special kindness because you’re a beautiful bride.

TRU BRIDAL FAIR PREVIEW
Make it a one-stop wedding
Since 1908 . . .
One of the very first questions that come to mind when planning a wedding is, “where are we going to get married?” This may be something you’ve never thought about before, or you may be the bride that has their venue picked out long before they are even engaged. Wherever your dream location may be, there are many things to keep in mind while making this important decision. Many brides prefer to have their wedding at a “one stop shop” location — Thompson Rivers University Conference Centre offers all the amenities to make this a possibility during the summer months. The horticulture gardens provide a picturesque backdrop for a beautiful wedding ceremony. Enjoy an outdoor cocktail hour and hors d’oeuvres before moving into one of the three beautiful banquet rooms. After a decadent dinner and a night of laughs, love and dancing, the bride and groom can take a quick stroll to their executive loft suite overlooking the city while the rest of the guests stay in comfortable and spacious hotel rooms at our 11 story residence building. These are just some of the many benefits of having a “one stop” wedding venue: • One wedding coordinator — this is one of the biggest advantages for the bride and groom and will ensure your months of planning are less stressful. Hosting your wedding at TRU will include experienced coordinators who will work with
you to plan your wedding ceremony, reception and book your accommodations. The TRU Conference Centre offers reliable and organized services through effective communication. • Limited “down time” between events — host a beautiful cocktail hour and open bar for your guests to enjoy while the wedding party is out having photos taken. This will help ensure “downtime” is limited for your guests, which means more time for socializing and celebrating. • No transportation issues — when your guest check into their hotel they can leave their car keys in the room and turn off their GPS. No navigating is necessary to find the ceremony, cross the street to the reception and wander back to their rooms at the end of the night. This is convenient for your guests, but will also give you piece of mind knowing that all your guests will arrive home safe at the end of the night. • On site photography — for many couples photos are one of the most important elements of their day. However, couples don’t want to spend hours driving around to different locations while their guests are gathered and having fun. At TRU you have endless photo spots with beautiful flowers, greenery and views of the city all within walking distance. Put your wallet away, save money on that fancy limo and get back to your guests in time to socialize as husband and wife before the night kicks off.
