We would like to thank everyone who attended the 5th annual Jolly’s Jiggin’ Jamboree held Feb. 25 on Knife Lake. It was a beautiful day filled with fun, friends, family, and fishing. We were very successful in raising monies for the Greg Jolstad Memorial Scholarship fund, and look forward to awarding another scholarship to a graduating senior at Mora HS again this year. We would like to extend a huge thank you to Jim and Beth Hallin for all of their hard work and dedication to the JJJ each year. We appreciate all that they have done, and continue to do, to make the contest such a great success. We would also like to thank Knife Lake Sanitation, The Crow’s Nest, Don Holznagel, Mora Girls Scouts, Knife Lake Sportsman’s Club, all of our sponsors, and the countless volunteers that helped us throughout! We hope to see you all again next year!

Mora, Marc March 22, 22012 – Mora Chevrolet Buick is partnering with w i the M ra Area Youth Recreation Association in Mora M ra. M o a Chevrolet Buick has joined forces with the Mora. Mora tio l CChevrolet Youth Baseball program to provide new national equipment, instructional clinics, a monetary donation and an opportunity to raise an additional $10,000 through a Chevrolet vehicle sweepstakes. The program kicks off March 1 and runs through July 15, 2012. “Youth baseball provides positive and productive life lessons for young people across America, and the Chevrolet Youth Baseball program is an extension of Chevrolet’s commitment to baseball, community and families. Mora Chevrolet Buick is bringing that same dedication to youth baseball, said Mark Masters, General Sales Manager for Mora Chevrolet Buick “There is nothing more American than Chevrolet and baseball and Mora Chevrolet Buick wants to combine America’s favorite brand and favorite pastime together for our families in Mora to enjoy,” added Masters. The Chevrolet Youth Baseball program is beginning its seventh year, and has helped raise more than $13 million to aid local teams, affecting more than 2.7 million young people in communities where Chevrolet’s customers live, work and play. This year about 1,600 Chevrolet dealers are participating. Mora Chevrolet Buick will present the Mora Area Youth Recreation Association with 10 new equipment kits complete with equipment bags, baseball buckets, whiffle
balls, hitting net, batting tees and Chevrolet Youth Baseball T-shirts. The sponsorship also includes youth clinics featuring former MLB/MiLB players and coaches and instructors from Ripken Baseball. In addition, Mora Chevrolet Buick will present a check representing a one-time monetary donation to Mora Area Youth Recreation Association. The team also will have an opportunity to raise additional funds through a Chevrolet Youth Baseball Fundraiser. Sponsored leagues across the country will each receive 2,000 fundraiser entry tickets to distribute for a suggested donation and each league will keep 100 percent of the proceeds it raises. At the end of the fundraiser, five winners - one from each region - will win the Chevrolet Equinox or Chevrolet Cruz vehicle of their choice. Each participating market will award a secondary prize of a television and Blue-Ray player. As part of Chevrolet’s continued support of communities and youth baseball, Chevrolet is also bringing back Diamonds & Dreams for its third year. Participants can enter to win a baseball field makeover for their community. Chevrolet will award 12 weekly field makeover prizes and the opportunity to win the Grand Prize of an all-new 2013 Chevrolet Malibu. The sweepstakes will begin in mid-April; visit chevybaseball.com for more information. For more information about Chevrolet Youth Baseball, please visit www.youthsportswired.com

Rates effective 3/5/2012. The Annual Percentage Rate (APR) is the actual cost of credit to the borrower, including interest and other charges. Interest rates are subject to change without notice and may vary depending upon your unique credit history and the transaction. A loan rate can only be locked in after receiving a completed loan application and signed lock agreement, some exceptions may be made. This statement of current home mortgage rates is not an offer to enter into an agreement for a loan at a specified interest rate or number of discount points or both. An offer to enter into such an agreement may only be made pursuant to Minnesota Statutes Section 47.206. *The rate assumes a 20% down payment. A down payment of less than 20% will require mortgage insurance and will increase the APR. www.stearnsbank.com

Vote for Vagle
Arthur Township Clerk A “Can Do” Attitude
Think about the changes we have seen in just the past few years in this economy, in technology and throughout our community. Now, imagine the many changes we face for the future of keeping this a viable township and tourism stopover. Many townships are indeed at a crossroads; the challenges we face are tough and complex and ever-changing. You need someone that can prioritize and organize, resolve issues with diplomacy, maintain discretion and privacy. Someone that comprehends that service and communication must be wrapped with professionalism. I have more than 25 years’ experience working for large corporations with tremendous experience in computer technology & security, project management and contract negotiations. Pushing paper and cutting through redtape are my strongest skills. Getting any job done on time and within budget is always my priority. Those premium tax dollars belong back in your pocket too.
A VOTE for Vagle will add VOLUMES to YOUR Voices! Experience Commitment Security Innovation Advocacy Collaboration Integrity
By electing someone with the skills and background in security, information protection and the ability to use cutting-edge technology to reduce waste and improve processes - this is a jump to saving money in your pocketbooks. Administrative & Data Security Skills This community takes great pride in preserving its small town look and warm welcome. I would like to help promote that sense of community through serving you. I have a passion and energy to improve the web presence and marketing of this community using innovation and collaboration. I have the global understanding and leadership experience to represent YOUR interests, to build bridges, and help our community turn challenges into opportunities. I am about seeing this recession through by staying and working to improve my community. There is work to be done right here in Arthur Township and I am offering my skills and experience to you. I have the “can do” attitude that this township needs to stay focused and to flourish through successful planning and risk assessment.

2012 Top Ways to Save Money and Have a Cheap Wedding Do you have champagne taste and caviar dreams, on a white bread and soda pop budget? Don’t worry, you can still have a beautiful but cheap wedding. Check out these great ways to cut costs and save money. 1. Trim Your Wedding Guest List Each time you add a name to your invitation list, you’re increasing your budget significantly. It’s not just the catering costs, but also the extra centerpieces, favors, rentals, etc. Don’t invite anyone you haven’t talked to in five years. Don’t feel obligated to let single people bring a date. Avoid feeling pressured to invite all your work colleagues. And don’t let your friends bring their children. You can also decide to eliminate categories like “relatives more distant than first cousins” or “friends from volunteer work.” By not inviting anyone from that group, you’ll help avoid hurt feelings. 2. Save Postage on Your Wedding Invitations Forgo the inner envelope and blotter paper, which are leftover relics from times when ink needed time to dry, and people wanted a pristine envelope. Rather than having a reply card, ask guests to reply online or by the telephone. Not only will you save money from the printer bill, it should also reduce your postage expense. 3. Shop Sample Sales and the Internet for Cheap Wedding Dresses If you wear a 6, 8, or 10, check out sample sales, which generally happen once a year. It’s a great opportunity to get a designer dress at rock-bottom prices. You can also look on eBay, Craigslist and other websites for deals on used wedding dresses. Remember that cleaning the delicate fabric of a wedding dress may cost up to $250, so avoid the cheap dress with the filthy hem. And many towns have a
shop where you can rent a wedding dress, saving you hundreds and hundreds of dollars. 4. Change the Day of the Week Have your wedding on a weeknight or a Sunday. There is less demand for these dates, so vendors will often be willing to give you a better rate. 5. Save Money on Church Decorations For religious weddings, consider having your wedding near a major holiday. The church will already be decorated, saving you lots of money on flowers. On other days, look for simplicity. A candlelit ceremony can be romantic, gorgeous, and inexpensive. 6. Learn to Ask for Help to Save Money If you want to have a cheap wedding, pool your friends’ and family’s resources. Think of musicians you know, well-spoken friends who could be your officiant, and crafty people who can help you assemble things. They will generally be honored to be a special part of your big day. Also look for money-saving tips everywhere. Ask friends and family members for what they did to save money on their big day. 7. Get Crafty - Do It Yourself Throw a “pitch-in party,” where you ask your friends to be a special part of your wedding by helping you assemble favors and make invitations, centerpieces, and other homemade inexpensive touches. Be sure to put out delicious snacks and have inspiring tunes on the stereo, so that your friends feel like they’re at a party, not just part of
Unique designers are here for you...
an assembly line. 8. Look for Cheap Wedding Food and Drink Be honest with your caterer about your need to save money. Ask them which are the least expensive entrees and whether a buffet is cheaper than a seated dinner. See if they’ll let you provide your own liquor, or if serving only wine and beer will be cheaper than a full bar. Also consider only having the bar open during your cocktail hour, then serving an inexpensive wine with dinner. Especially if you and your fiance don’t drink, consider having a dry wedding. 9. Consider Cheap Wedding Invitations Don’t go for engraving - regular printed invites work just as well. There are a variety of cheap wedding invitations available on the internet. For a casual wedding, consider printing your own invites from your home computer. Stationery stores now sell printed paper meant to use in a home printer as cheap wedding invitations.

Planning a Non-Traditional Bridal Shower For some people, sitting around in a circle playing cheesy games and watching someone open gifts for an hour sounds like a grand old time. But if you’re amongst the many for whom that sounds like a total nightmare, don’t worry. The non-traditional bridal shower is here to save you. Why Should You Have a Non-Traditional Bridal Shower A bridal shower is a centuries-old tradition that was meant to help a bride set up her new home. But in 2012, many brides are older and have already set up a home. Their cupboards are already full of pots, pans, and dishes, but they still want to be celebrated by their friends. And it seems that the older a bride gets, the less she – or her friends – wants to play bridal shower games. Non-Traditional Bridal Shower Themes Every great party has some great ideas behind it. When you’re planning your bridal shower, think about what you’ll want your guests to be remembering and talking about the next day. Of course, you’ll want to prioritize your guest or guests of honor, focusing on what will make them happy. A Honeymoon Shower If the couple has a honeymoon registry, throw them a bridal shower that’s all about their future fun. Whether they’ll be lying on the beach or swooshing down the slopes, tie in the decorations, invitations, and music to their big trip. Make invitations that look like boarding passes, and ask guests to dress in vacation-appropriate clothing. Cocktails and fun food are key to this theme, since they’ll help guests get in the spirit. Here’s sample invitation wording for a honeymoon shower: A Honeymoon Shower for Jane Smith, Come celebrate Jane’s soon-to-be marriage to John Doe. After they tie-the-knot, they’re honeymooning in Hawaii! Let’s help her get in the mood with a Hawaiian Luau. Please bring a gift that John and Jane can enjoy on their honeymoon. They are also registered at The Honeymoon Registry and Crate and Barrel. Rather than playing games, plan activities that somewhat reflect what the couple will be doing on their honeymoon: a mixology lesson, spa treatments, luau dancers or belly dancers, or just beautiful food and drinks from their destination. As a nod to the games-loving-people, you could also offer a trivia contest about the country, mixed with a few questions about the couple’s past travels. Buying a House Bridal Shower Buying a new house is a good reason to be hoping for some cash wedding gifts. But since it’s tacky to ask for money, it’s a better idea for your bridesmaids to throw you a New House Bridal Shower. Register at your local hardware store or a chain like Home Depot for the paint and tools you’ll need to make your new house a home. You can also register for some new furniture, and some mortgage companies even offer down payment registries. Here’s some sample invitation wording:
A Bridal Shower for Lisa Jones Lisa and Fred are getting hitched! Let’s shower Lisa with gifts for their new home. They’ve already got plates and towels, they just need place to put them! Please bring a gift that will help Fred and Lisa with their down payment or help them make that house a home. Come ready to have some fun crafting, enjoy good food and drinks, and of course, share great company. Lisa and Fred are registered at Sister’s Hardware Store, Pier 1, and Target. Use new and never been used paint cans as food serving dishes on your buffet. Decorate with paint stir sticks and other hardware supplies. If you use real tools as decorations, you can give them to bride as an additional gift. Instead of games, plan a home crafting activity like making custom chalkboards or painting pottery. Stock-the-Bar Shower You might call this using a bridal shower as an excuse to drink, but I call it great fun. It’s like throwing a cocktail party but with gifts. Put together an awesome playlist and some pitchers of cocktails or perhaps a champagne punch. Of course you’ll also want some chic hors d’oeuvres for nibbling. Instead of bridal shower games, you can have a wine tasting, a mixol-

ogy lesson, or just and relaxed mingling. Send guests home with some fun recipes for new drinks, a pretty martini glass, or other fun drinkthemed favor. Battle of the Sexes Wedding Shower If your friends are competitive types, you know they’ll have fun with a friendly trivia contest or athletic games. You can use some of the games from the TV show Minute to Win It, have a softball game, or do classic field day games like a three-legged-race or balloon toss. You could even have a Pictionary party, bake-off or dance-off. Just make sure you are clear in the invites about what’s going to happen so that your guests are prepared. Having a same-sex wedding? Make this theme be battle of the friends, rather than of the sexes. Decorate in pink and blue, featuring the men’s symbol and the women’s symbol prominently. You could also decorate with famous couples like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, or Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith. For foods, look for things that come in pairs like cheese and crackers, peas and carrots, chips and dip, cake and ice cream, or milk and cookies. You’ll want to think about your guests, their level of fitness, and their comfort levels when planning this event. It works best with a tight group of friends, and when people are pretty evenly matched. This type of shower is usually in addition to – rather than instead of – a more traditional shower.

The tears in our eyes we can wipe away; But the ache in our hearts will always stay. Life goes on we know it’s true; But nothing is the same since we lost you. Sadly missed by wife Jeannie and family
