JAN. 15 ADULT LEARN TO SKI Mora Ski Club is offering an adult learn to ski class for persons who are interested in learning to cross-country ski, learning to improve their technique or looking for a good way to deal with winter in Minnesota. Dave and Tanya Peterson opened Mora Auto Service at the Union Street location on March 5, 2012. “Tanya and I decided to make a job for ourselves,” Dave said. “A friend of ours was a brand-new rookie mechanic, who helped with the business for the first several months.

We bought him out, and he moved on to a dealership. He helped the business get started, and we helped him get a start too.”

“When we first started, it was just Dave and me,” Tanya said. “I’d go out and help him, and picked up a wrench. I learned to do oil changes, disc brakes and hub assemblies.”

“Tanya handles the business end and deals more and more with the customers,” said Dave. “But she can step in and do quite a bit of my job.”

Dave began his automotive training at Dunwoody Institute. “Through the years I saw Tanya, my mom, a classmate and other people get taken advantage of with auto repairs.

BMX Lyceum Presented at Mora High School

In a few weeks, you will be receiving the first issue of Mora Schools “Mustang Express:” a new publication for, by, and about the students, staff and community that make up Mora Independent School District 332.

Many remember the “332 In Review” magazine that was part of local area homes for many years. “Mustang Express” is proud to continue the heritage of that magazine by keeping our community apprised of all the happenings in the school district – the achievements, successes, challenges and pride that make up our education system.

You can continue to follow “332 In Review” as a monthly section in the Kanabec County Times. Between the monthly section, our Facebook and Twitter online presence and “Mustang Express,” we aim to keep our community well-informed about the “latest and greatest” happenings in the district.

For example: our first edition features an update on the Trailview School expansion, with a timeline and before-and-after pictures. You’ll also find updates from Superintendent Craig Schultz, Mora High School Principal Brent Nelson, Trailview Principal Randy Qual and Fairview Principal Brenda Jordan; information families can use as they help guide their children’s education; shout-outs to memorable student and staff accomplishments; stories and pictures about current happenings at each of the schools; a convenient listing of upcoming Community Education offerings and much more.

Holiday Food Drive

Students at Mora High School were treated to a lyceum sponsored by the National Guard. The bikers shared the core values of the National Guard. It focused on character, integrity and leadership qualities for all students.

The bikers were high flying and did amazing flips and tricks which kept the crowd in awe. It finished with a 360 degree backflip over the high school Dean of Students, Mrs. Erickson, which nearly touched the ceiling.

Social Skills Bingo

Students in Mrs. Hallin’s FOCUS class participated in Social Skills Bingo.

Winners could keep the prizes or use them for family gifts for the holidays.

Mora School Staff Donates for Surgery

Ms. Peterson’s FACS (Family and Consumer Science) classes competed in Cupcake Wars during the day before holiday break.

Thank you to everyone who donated to our holiday food and money drive! The high school raised a total of $2,010.74 and collected 325 food items. These proceeds will be split between buying toys that will be donated to the Sheriff ’s Office toy drive and the local food shelf. The food collected will be divided between the local food shelf and Mora High School’s Food for Friends.

He is survived by his father, Donald Emmons; children, Nivarri, Keith, Jacqulynn, Katherin and Maddison; and brothers, Troy and Tommy Emmons.

Part-time On-Call

Snow Plow Driver / Equipment Operator The city of North Branch will be hiring a part-time, on-call snow plow driver/equipment operator. The position will be required to be available 24hrs/day/7 days a week including nights, weekends and holidays. Availability is from November 1 through May 15 of each year. Must be able to be at the public works facility within 30 minutes of the call-in. Must have a class B commercial driver’s license, class A is preferred, experience operating front end loaders, tandem and single axle plow trucks with wing and salt spreader. Municipal experience is preferred but not required. Must be able to pass an extensive background check. Pay rate is $23/hr. Application deadline is January 6 at 4:30 pm.
