WILD THINGS Pizzeria Celebrate 25 Years of Business In Downtown Mora

Hinckley barb@townandcountry-ins.com 320-384-7423 My insurance career began in 1984 when I managed benefits for a human resources company in Hudson, Wis. In 1994, I moved “back north” to Hinckley, close to my hometown of Sandstone, and became licensed in 1995 while working at a State Farm Agency. I went independent as a health insurance broker in 1996, and have specialized in Medicare, individual and small group plans since that time. I am certified to work with the MNsure health insurance exchange. I especially enjoy one-on-one appointments with clients, so together we can select an affordable and suitable solution in a challenging time of health care reform. On January 1, 2015, my business was acquired by Town & Country Insurance. Together with the Town & Country team, I look forward to a bright future of providing additional services, products and value to our clients.

Your own newspaper is coming to town! The Mora School District will join school districts throughout the state to salute their local education leaders during Minnesota’s annual School Board Recognition Week February 16-20. The commemorative week is designed to recognize the contributions made by Minnesota’s school board members, including the Mora School Board, who are charged with governing public education under state law. Minnesota school board members are chosen by their communities through election or appointment to manage local schools. They oversee multimillion dollar budgets that fund education programs for more than 825,000 students in approximately 2,000 schools. Their personnel decisions affect more than 52,000 teachers and thousands of administrators and support workers. These volunteer leaders also are responsible for formulating school district policy, approving curricula, maintaining school facilities, and adhering to state and federal education law. Legal concerns and the complexities of school finance, including budgeting and taxation, require them to spend many hours in board training programs and personal study to enhance their understanding of these issues. Our deepest appreciation is extended to the dedicated men and women who make it possible for local citizens to participate in education in our community. We salute the public servants of the Mora School Board whose commitment and civic responsibility make local control of public schools in our community possible: Karen Kirschner, Chair, 14 years of Service; Ethan Elvehjem, Vice Chair/ Treasurer, 6 years of service; Scott Moe, Clerk, 3 years of service; Tammy Bohachek, 1st Year of Service; Robert Jensen, 1st Year of Service; and Bob Woods, 1st Year of Service. Please join us by saying thanks to our school board members during Minnesota’s School Board Recognition Week.

Made Of MORA

Menagerie of Renowned Artists

M.O.M.’s Place Antiques, Collectibles Home Decór & More

Over 120 Local Artists & Crafters Made Of MORA (Menagerie Of Renowned Artists) is an arts and crafts shop located in downtown Mora. It features unique handcrafted gifts, home and cabin decor, glassware, pottery, art, woodworking, jewelry, textiles, and sundries – all produced by local artisans. Co-owner Jody Anderson came up with the “Menagerie Of Renowned Artists” acronym, which truly epitomizes the spirit of the shop. “We try to stay local as much as we can,” she said. “Made Of MORA carries items created within 50 miles of Mora. We started out with 12 consigners, and now have more than a120.” Located within Made Of MORA is M.O.M.’s Place (Made Of MORA’s Place), a specialty shop offering collectables, antiques, unique and hard-to-find items, Swedish treats, sewing supplies, notions, furniture, and vintage clothing. M.O.M.’s Place also offers sewing machine repair, handmade greeting cards, and gift certificates. Jody and husband Michael opened the business in early 2009 in an empty building that previously had housed a bicycle shop. Fears that the space would be too big for their needs were soon unfounded, and word got around about their unique array of merchandise. Jody and Michael continue to find new ways to meet their customers’ needs. “We have visitors year-round from all over the world, including during the Mora Classic Series events.” said Jody. “And as of a year ago, we are affiliates of the K-Bid online auction service. Michael is a licensed and bonded auctioneer.” Jody and Michael continue to innovate: soon adding to the mix a selection of gourmet chocolates, imported Swedish sweets, by-the-scoop ice cream, and old- fashioned “penny” candy. For a unique and memorable shopping experience, and an assortment of handpicked treasures and handcrafted gifts, visit Made of MORA/ M.O.M’s Place.

THANK YOU

THANK YOU

I would like to send out a heartfelt thank you to friends, family, neighbors and co-workers for all your help, prayers and food during the most difficult time during Jim’s illness and passing. This truly is a FANTASTIC community.

We would like to thank everyone for their support during Scott’s illness before his death. We want to thank St. Croix hospice for helping with Scott’s care, making it possible for his last days to be spent at home where he wanted to be.

A big thank you to the staff at Lakeside Medical Center for their loving care of Jim, to Cathy Olson GNP for making it possible for me to bring Jim home (as promised) so he could be by his lake. Thank you also to the staff of Fairview Lakes Home Care/ Hospice for their loving care.

A big thank you to Pastor Tim, Jena and Josh for the beautiful service. A special thank you to Terry Koffler for setting up the luncheon and to Becky, Sara, Char and Marie for bringing bars. Also, thanks to the girls for serving at the luncheon. Words cannot say how much your hard work was appreciated!

A big thank you to my Lakeside family for love, prayers, food and support during this most difficult time in my life. Also, a big thank you to my boys for jumping in there to make sure I’m okay – I truly feel all the love and prayers that have been bestowed on me and our families.

And a final thank you to Mike and Brady from Swanson-Olson Funeral Home for all the services rendered.

I am so grateful that Jim picked this community for us to live in... we are truly blessed. Irma Ericson
