320-396-5180 SUICIDE PREVENTION TRAINING FOR AG COMMUNITIES University of Minnesota Extension, in partnership with NAMI Minnesota will be offering a monthly suicide prevention program for agricultural and rural communities. QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) is a 90-minute, evidence-based training that teaches the three steps anyone can take to help prevent suicide. Just like CPR, QPR is an emergency response to someone in crisis and can save lives. QPR is the most widely taught gatekeeper training program in the United States, and more than one million adults have been trained.

Emily Krekelberg, Extension Educator for Farm Health & Safety, will facilitate the training drawing on her own lived experience from a family farm. Th is training was created in partnership with the Upper Midwest Agricultural Safety & Health Center (UMASH) and is intended for members of rural and agricultural communities over the age of 16. The series began on Feb. 17, and will continue monthly on the third Wednesday of the month at 1:00 p.m. Register today by visiting https://z.umn.edu/AgQPR. If you have questions about the training, contact Emily Krekelberg at krek0033@umn.edu.

Below are last week’s most read stories on the Kanabec County Times website, www.MoraMinn.com. 1. Restaurateurs attracted by small-town charms serve Mexican dishes big with flavor: The size of a loaf pan and stuffed with chicken, steak, rice, beans, lettuce, sour cream and guacamole, then covered with chipotle cheese sauce and bacon, the “Big Mora” is El Jalisco’s largest burrito and has been a popular item during the restaurant’s opening week. (487 pageviews) 2. Sheriff: Catalytic converter theft is too easy: Kanabec County Sheriff Brian Smith described what seems like a never ending cycle: Drug addicts looking to satiate their addictions turn to theft to find quick cash. Deputies make arrests, thieves are charged and local thefts subside — at least for awhile. Eventually, they climb again. Easy targets for burglars is often scrap metal taken from backyards or unlocked sheds and garages. The metals don’t have serial numbers, which makes it difficult for law enforcement to trace. Below are last week’s most read stories on the Pine City Pioneer website at: www.pinecitymn.com 1. Suspect charged with multiple catalytic converter thefts: Corey Thomas Nielson, 42, of Hinckley has been charged with felony theft, burglary, receiving stolen property, damage to property and other charges after reportedly confessing to the theft of multiple catalytic converters – and after 16 catalytic converters were found in the trunk of a car on his property. 2.Years Ago : Craig K. Schultz, manager of the McDonald’s restaurant in Pine City, graduated with honors from McDonald’s Hamburger University with a Bachelor in Hamburgology degree. 3. Broadband: Pine County is one of the worst counties in the state for broadband coverage, but Pine County officials are hoping that a new program will help give broadband a boost in the area. Pine County is ranked 84th out of 87 counties in the state for broadband speed and access. Are you a current subscriber?
