What is ONE Major Difference between Kanabec County and the City of Pierz, Pine County and the Metropolitan Drug Task Force? Each of the other agencies discovered that there were serious problems occurring in their local justice system. They took action to remove the problems and restore credibility to those agencies. Here in Kanabec County that does not seem to occur! It seems that the County Attorney and Sheriff have failed to take several appropriate and required actions in regard to the deputy’s wrongdoing. Instead, they elevated this wrongdoer and used him to pursue other people. A great many issues exist in our local justice system. We have had much public discussion about what seems to be selective prosecution practices by Brosnahan. I will give one example that I believe is significant. It becomes even more troubling when we consider all the recent exposure of questionable actions by our officials.

We all remember the so-called investigation of the Mora Gambling Ring. The term “Gambling Ring” certainly implies more than one person being involved in criminal activity. Yet, only one indi-

vidual was charged. Brosnahan charged him with numerous felonies. Numerous felony charges imply that there were serious and numerous crimes involved in the activities of the Gambling “Ring.” Yet, Brosnahan charged only one individual! Like so many people in the public have, I ask why was only one individual charged? Why did the “investigation” stop almost as soon as it started? There seems to be a great deal of evidence that some people are able to do as they wish while others are prosecuted far beyond what the facts will support! Why is that? There is an old saying “where there is smoke there is fire,” by that standard there is obviously a large and out of control fire in our local Justice System! I invite the readers to look at various state and federal statutes in U.S. Title 18; statute 609.48, statute 609.50, and statute 609.43.
