November 2019 Dear Mora Public School District Parents & Guardians: The winter weather in Minnesota can be a challenge in making decisions on late starts, early releases and school closings. Our highest priority is the safety of the students and staff when determining how to handle snow/cold days. Another priority is to minimally disrupt instruction due to school closings. For this priority, Mora Public Schools will begin e-learning on most days when school is closed due to bad weather. E-learning is an instructional school day that takes place when students are not at school due to weather related closings. Instruction and communication happens online for some students while others may have assignments and resources sent home with them. Teachers are available to provide assistance to students and parents via email and/or phone. The district can have up to 5 e-learning days per school year; however, the first day closed due to weather will NOT be an e-learning day and students will NOT have to make up that day. E-learning will take place on the 2nd-6th missed days of school for snow/cold. Please see the district website for the Mora E-Learning Day Plan and specific information about your child’s e-learning day activities. There are a number of factors considered when determining whether or not to alter a school day due to inclement weather. Mora Public Schools considers the variables in a timely fashion to assist students and families in making the best and safest decision. It is understood that families have to make adjustments to schedules when there is a two-hour late start, early release or school cancellation. Please remember, as a parent or guardian, you make the final decision as to your child’s attendance at school. After evaluating the available and projected weather-related information, the district has the following options: 1. School is on-time if buses can travel safely and within a reasonable amount of time. 2. School will start 2 hours late resulting in the following changes: a. No morning Mustang Care. b. Elementary would start at 9:55 a.m. c. All-day preschool would start at 10:15 a.m. with no morning 1⁄2 day preschool classes. d. High school would start at 10:05 a.m. e. Buses would pick up 2 hours later than usual. 3. School will start 2 hours late with the above changes, but buses will only travel on plowed roads. 4. School has an early dismissal due to a change in weather conditions. a. There would be no afternoon Mustang Care. 5. School is closed for the day. a. No morning or afternoon Mustang Care. b. No evening activities or practice. c. The 1st closed day of the school year there would be NO e-learning. d. The 2nd-6th closed school days there WOULD be e-learning. e. If designated an e-learning day, it would be announced on mass communications and sent out via a message delivered to parents by phone and/or email soon after it is determined the district would be closed due to inclement weather. Mass communications of school closure can be found locally on television (channels 4, 5, 9, 11), radio (KBEK, WCMP, WCCO), online ( www. moraschools.org), and Facebook (www.facebook.com/MoraPublicSchools). In addition, you may receive a School Messenger announcement, our parent notification system. This system sends timely reminders about and/or changes to a school day soon after those decisions are made. To ensure effective communication, please make sure you child’s school has your most up-to-date contact information in the system. Please feel free to contact the bus garage for additional clarification specific to your route if you have any additional questions at 320-679-6255. Please note, all district phone lines are extremely busy during these periods of time. We encourage you to use any of the above alternative ways to get up-to-date information concerning school closures.

DAMAGE PREVENTION PROGRAM Safety is our top priority! FOR SAFETY’S SAKE... CALL BEFORE YOU DIG!
DIAL 811
Call Gopher State One-Call when you plan a project! Northwest Gas has natural gas pipelines in the Ogilvie/Mora area. Please call at least 48 hours before you plan to begin any machine-assisted excavating. This includes stump grinding, topsoil stripping or any other operation where power equipment is used, regardless of digging depth. Pipelines may not be where you expect! Pipeline marking signs do not indicate a pipeline’s exact location and never can you be sure of the depth of a pipeline. A pipeline may change direction and depth rapidly in a very short distance. The only safe method of locating a pipeline is by calling Gopher State One-Call and having a Northwest employee locate it for you. After you contact Gopher State One-Call a Northwest employee will visit your work site and mark the location of our pipeline for you at no charge. If your plans change after the pipeline is marked, call Gopher State One-Call again. Do not try to guess our pipeline’s location from previous markings or it’s depth from a previous measurement.
