SEPT. 25 MOPS MOPS (Mothers Of Preschoolers) is an international non-denominational Christian organization that gathers local moms together. It is for any mother of children, birth - kindergarten. They meet as a large group while their kids are being cared for in a separate room.

Each year there is an overall theme, and each meeting has a more focused topic that might include a speaker, activity or outreach project.

Meetings are held from 9-11 a.m. on the second and fourth Tuesday of each month from mid September - mid May at Living Hope Church on Hwy 23 in Mora. (You do not need to be a member of the church to attend MOPS meetings.)

Come enjoy good food and conversation, connect with other moms and get a chance to breathe away from your kids.

SEPT. 29 FALL FUN RUN & CUB RUN The 6th annual Pine Area Lions “Costume” 5K Fall Fun Run and 1/2 mile Cub Run will take place in Pine City at 9 a.m. at the elementary school. Walkers and strollers are welcome; costumes are encouraged but not required. Proceeds go back to the community to benefit youth.

High speed chase heads through Pine City: Robert William Pladson, 48, of Sturgeon Lake has been charged with fleeing law enforcement and drug possession after allegedly leading deputies on a high-speed chase through Pine City on Sept. 7.

2. 1 man airlifted, another charged after accident: A Rush City man has been charged with three felonies after allegedly injuring his friend with a semi while intoxicated, then leaving the scene without calling 911.

2. Drug paraphernalia rules put into action: Pine City’s recently approved drug paraphernalia ordinance has been put into use, according to Pine County Sheriff Jeff Nelson. At the Sept. 5 Pine City Council meeting, Nelson said that in a recent community forum, concerns had been raised about drug paraphernalia being offered at a local business. This put the business in violation of Pine City’s drug paraphernalia ordinance, which was approved by members of the city council on May 31 of this year. Nelson said the business has now removed the items.

LLOYD H. STEGEMAN Lloyd Harold Stegeman, of Mora, died on Friday, Sept. 14, 2018, at the St. Cloud VA Medical Center. He was 98 years old.

He was born on Dec. 1, 1919, in Mora, to parents Conrad and Ethel M ((Ulrich) Stegeman. He attended the Harding Country School through H tthe eighth grade. On March 22, 11942, Lloyd entered the United SStates Army and served overseas in tthe European Theater during WWII. Lloyd was a tank commander and L part of the troops that landed on p Utah Beach. He was awarded the U SSilver Star for his bravery in action, helping to save more than 2000 U.S. h ssoldiers. Lloyd was later wounded near Schevenhutte, Germany and n aawarded the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged on Feb. 16, h 11946. He returned home to Minnesota where he worked for the Mora Creamery for a year before beginning farming full-time.

He was united in marriage to June Katherine Kenely on June 16, 1945, on the Gordhammer farm in Mora. Following their marriage they made their home on the family farm where they lived until his wife’s death in March of 2005. He continued to live on the farm for a few more years until moving to Eastwood Senior Living in Mora in 2015. In 2016, he made a fi nal move to the St. Cloud Veteran’s Medical Center where he spent his last years.

He loved to dance and play the accordion (that he acquired on the Utah Beach during his time in the service). He liked tending to a large garden and driving his tractor and doing field work. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards and traveling with his wife and family to Arizona and Branson. He was active with countless Army reunions across the country and was able to be a part of the Honor Flight in 2012. He loved family gatherings and meeting up with the breakfast group at Hardee’s for biscuits and gravy and conversation. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife June; grandson Ramie James Stegeman; brother Roger (Ramona) Stegeman; sisters, Hazel (Maurice Clark and William Brockman), Marion (Ralph) Williams, Irene (Magnus) Risdahl and brother-in-law Roy Foust.

He is survived by children, Robin (Kazumi), Wade (Sally), Melanie (Bob) Halverson, Wendy (Dwight) Nelson, Lanny (Rhonda), Lynn (Karen) and Rhonda (Dale) Green; 19 grandchildren and 42 great-grandchildren; brother Vernon (Vickie) Stegeman; sister Clara Foust and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

A funeral service was held on Friday, Sept. 21, 2018, at the Mora United Methodist Church with Rev. Rob Pesola officiating. Music was provided by Maree Nordenstrom, Kelli Sweeney, and Rob Pesola. Casket bearers were his grandsons. Honorary casket bearers were his granddaughters. Military honors were provided by the Mora American Legion Post 201, the Minnesota National Guard Honor Team and the Minnesota Patriot Guard. Buglers were Dwight and Ryan Nelson. Burial was in the Oakwood Cemetery in Mora.

The successful candidate must possess a minimum of 2 years billing and collections experience in long term care. Proven ability to demonstrate exceptional initiative, communication, organizational and problem-solving skills are a must.
