PUBLIC ACCESS RESTRICTED AT ALL COUNTY BUILDINGS FOR ALL NON-ESSENTIAL SERVICES MORA, MN – All Kanabec County buildings and facilities are closed to the public for all non-essential services effective immediately and until further notice. Limited access will remain for courts, public health and family services. The decision was made by the Kanabec County Board of Commissioners at their regular board meeting on Tuesday, March 17, 2020 in response to prevention and protection measures for the expanding COVID-19 pandemic. This decision was made in consultation with Emergency Management, Public Health and Human Resources. In taking these measures, Kanabec County remains in line with guidance for social distancing strategies recommended by both the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and the Center for Disease Control (CDC) in addition to the Governor of Minnesota and the Commissioner of Health. This action will also help protect staff and the general public from being exposed to potentially sick individuals spreading the virus to our friends and families. While the buildings will be restricted from the public, county services and operations will continue to be provided to the community on the same schedule, through both phone and email. Some services can be done online if necessary and citizens are encouraged to explore those options. A listing of department contacts can be found on the county webpage www.kanabeccounty.org or your call can be directed by calling the Coordinator’s Office at (320) 679-6440. Kanabec County will continue to post information related to this closure, announcements, and other helpful information on the website at www.kanabeccounty.org. Remember! The best ways to prevent the spread of COVID-19 are to practice healthy hygiene, by staying home when you’re sick, and social distancing. AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER

HEALTH TIP: How to clean when faced with a shortage of supplies In light of concerns about COVID-19, various health organizations have issued specific instructions on how to maintain personal safety and cleanliness. These recommendations involve using common household products to sanitize homes, offices and public spaces. As people take such precautions, many are stocking up on extra essentials - resulting in shortages.

320-980-1122 Everything from hand sanitizers to paper towels may be hard to find on grocery store shelves, leaving some to wonder what they can do to remain safe without sanitizers? The Environmental Protection Agency states that coronaviruses are some of the easiest types of viruses to kill because they have an envelope around them that enables them to merge with other cells and infect them. If that protective coating can be disrupted, the virus can't do its job. For those having trouble finding well-known cleaning agents, these alternatives may suffice.

Hot water and soap The reason hand-washing is at the top of the list of sanitizing methods is because it is so effective at washing away viruses and bacteria. Friction from scrubbing with soap and water can help break the protective envelope, states the EPA. Soap and water can clean all surfaces in a home, especially when applying a little extra elbow grease. Hydrogen peroxide As people clear isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) off the shelves, do not discount hydrogen peroxide. The CDC says household hydrogen peroxide at 3 percent concentration
320-983-2447 • www.septiccheck.com
can deactivate rhinovirus, the virus that causes the common cold, within six to eight minutes of contact. Coronavirus is easier to destroy than rhinovirus, so hydrogen peroxide may be effective at combating that virus as well. Natural items can be used for general cleaning, but have not been endorsed for use on COVID-19 disinfection. In lieu of shortages, white vinegar, baking soda pastes and citrus oils and juices could fill the void of chemically-based cleansers for other home tasks.

Did you know?
of which all could potentially be cut to custom width. CUSTOM BLINDS/SHADES Custom blinds and shades are made to Ɠt your window based on the measurements you provide and also come in a variety of styles and colors. DRAPERY You can accent your windows with a selection of drapes available in a variety of styles, colors and sizes to Ɠt any window. Panels, scarves, tier sets and valances are some of the options you might consider. You can complement your drapes with decorative drapery hardware available in a variety of Ɠnishes and designs. You could also consider tie backs, cord cleats, rings and a few other options to complete the job. WINDOW FILMS & APPLICATIONS You can provide privacy, glare control or decorate with window Ɠlm or other applications. Frosted window Ɠlm, mirror window Ɠlm, black window Ɠlm and decorative stickers can add a nice touch to the project.
Window treatments become tired looking after several years of sunlight and use. If your window treatments are due for an update, replacing them is one of the easiest home improvement projects you can do yourself, and it’s also one of the most noticeable and least expensive. By swapping out the old for the new, you can give your home an update without breaking the bank.
BLINDS/SHADES Precut blinds and shades are available in a variety of styles and colors to complement your décor. Options include aluminum blinds, cellular shades, faux wood blinds, natural shades, roller shades, vertical blinds and vinyl blinds
CARING FOR YOUR BLINDS Two-Ɠnger or seven-Ɠnger blind cleaners can be used to keep your blinds looking their best. Household cleaners and a basic washcloth are also options. PREPARE AHEAD OF TIME When planning your project, your supply list should include a tape measure, screwdrivers, wall anchors, screws, drills, cleaning tools and accessories. Don’t be afraid to make changes with the seasons to create a pleasant living environment for your family and friends.
When planning spring landscapes, homeowners should always group plants with similar water needs together. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, grouping plants with similar water needs together helps to conserve water, which can be an especially useful strategy if or when drought restrictions go into effect in summer. Homeowners also can embrace additional strategies to landscape with water conservation in mind. For example, aerating soil helps to improve water Ŵow to plants’ roots and reduces water runoff, helping to ensure that plants get all of the water they need while reducing the likelihood that homeowners will have to use excessive amounts of water to keep plants healthy. In addition, using low-water-using types of grass can help homeowners who live in areas prone to drought conserve water while still maintaining lush, green lawns.

Home Improvement 5 outdoor projects that add value
Guide to updating your bathroom Your bathroom is the most intimate room in your house, so why shouldn’t it be beautiful? Whether it’s wear and tear or needs a change, an easy update might be just the solution. Here are some areas to look at when updating your bathroom: SHOWERHEADS AND FAUCETS Types/Features Showerheads: Fixed Mount, Handheld, Combo Showerhead, Slide bar, etc. Multiple Spray Settings, 2-in-1 Combined, Rain, etc. Faucets: One Handle, Two Handle, Widespread, Vessel, etc. Finishes Stainless Steel, Chrome, Brushed Nickel and Bronze are a few of the most common Ɠnishes. The Ɠnish is very important, so ask yourself some questions–does it go well with your shower or vanity? Do you want a shiny Ɠnish or matte Ɠnish look?
Exterior renovations can enhance the appearance of a property and make it more enjoyable for homeowners. Certain renovations have the potential to add value to a home, while others may do the opposite. Learning which ones have the largest return on your investment can help homeowners select features that will have the most positive impact.
the tub area, which are the most important. Also consider the color that the light bulbs give off, that can change the whole mood of the room. HARDWARE Complete your bathroom with matching hardware. You can match things like towel rods, toilet paper holders, hooks and cabinet knobs to your faucet, showerhead and even lighting Ɠxtures. Looking at these little details can add that extra touch to make your bathroom your own.
Curb appeal goes a long way toward attracting potential buyers. According to the National Association of Realtors, Ɠrst impressions of a property have a strong inŴuence on buyers. Landscaping and external features can do much to inŴuence such impressions.
PAINT AND BACK SPLASHES A fresh coat of paint can change the whole atmosphere of a room. Determine what color will compliment your vanity, faucet and hardware. You can even spruce up the vanity with a coat of paint. Another option is to place a back splash to give you an accent to your bathroom. TOILET
VANITIES AND VANITY TOPS
Vanities are another big piece to look at for your bathroom. A new vanity or vanity top can really change the style of a room in its entirety. Vanities come in a variety of types, colors and styles. Two of the main types are Freestanding and Wall Mounted.
LIGHTING
The key to good lighting in your bathroom is layering. Think about the areas that need lighting, such as around the mirror and
Models - The two main models are One-Piece and Two-Piece. One-Piece has the tank attached, while a Two-Piece has a detached tank. These include low-maintenance patio materials, composite decking, vinyl fencing and inorganic mulched beds. • Fire pit: A Ɠre pit can be used for much of the year. A Ɠre pit that has a gas burner is low-maintenance, and the National Association of Landscape Professionals says that most can recoup about $4,000 of their $6,000 average price tag.

Red Cross faces severe blood shortage AMERICAN RED CROSS SUBMITTED The American Red Cross now faces a severe blood shortage due to an unprecedented number of blood drive cancellations in response to the coronavirus outbreak. Healthy individuals are needed now to donate to help patients counting on lifesaving blood. Individuals can schedule an appointment to give blood with the Red Cross by visiting RedCrossBlood.org, using the Red Cross Blood Donor App, calling 1-800-RED-CROSS or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device. Here in the Minnesota-Dakotas Region, 80 blood drives have been canceled, resulting in 2,500 fewer blood donations. The Red Cross is adding appointment slots at donation centers and expanding capacity
at many community blood drives across the country over the next few weeks to ensure ample opportunities for donors to give. In addition to their thorough safety protocols, the Red Cross has implemented new measures to ensure blood drives and donation centers are even safer for our donors and staff, including: Checking the temperature of staff and donors before entering a drive to make sure they are healthy. Providing hand sanitizer for use before the drive, as well as throughout the donation process. Spacing beds, where possible, to follow social distancing practices between blood donors. Increasing enhanced disinfecting of surfaces and equipment. There is no data or evidence
